@@fredbloggs545 but that’s the point of the X100. It’s a niche camera for enthusiasts. Sure adding the X Mount would likely make it more practical at times, but I’ve found that being stuck at that focal length forced me to think more about my photos, and turned me into a better photographer. Don’t discount the fact that adding X Mount to the X100 would almost completely destroy (the admittedly already low) demand for the X-Pro series, and would threaten the X-T series. All that said, an X100 with an interchangeable lens Mount, maybe with a tiny bit of extra grip a la X-T30 would be my dream camera. It’s all business at the end of the day!
@@Clove_Parma I understand the point of the X100 as I had one. This video is pointless to X-E4 buyers who want to change lenses. The X-E4 is the better option for *them* over the X100V no matter what features the X100V has.
@@fredbloggs545 a lot of reviewers are comparing the two though...even in the Fuji announcement, they compared the size and weight to the X100V. The X100V is better in terms of features...but personally I want a 23mm + 56mm.
The temptation with x-e4 is the interchangeable lens, at some stage you will start to get bored with 23mm focal length on the x100v and want experiment with different lenses/focal length. The reason some people that have sold their Fuji x100 serious camera was the 23mm limitation, at some stage they got bored and sold it off, as a photographer you want be able to experiment with different focal length. To my eyes the x-e4 is a very stylish camera with minimalistic approach, its an inspiration from Leica Q2, we have to give credit to Fuji for creating such small compact camera with amazing capabilities. x-e4 will be my pick :-))
i agree totally! the reason why i left interchangeable lenses as preference however is because some people want the exact opposite. not having the worry about multiple lenses and gear allows one to focus on solely the shooting. hope you enjoy the xe4!
@@andrepel "not having the worry about multiple lenses and gear allows one to focus on solely the shooting" That's an argument for having a zoom lens, not a fixed focal length.
x100v is actually a complete camera with their converters option. you got 28mm and 50mm, it's two focal length that most photographers use in many scenarios
@@ElmarJournal yeah, and not many people talk about the digital teleconverter which actually works surprisingly well and without noticeable detail loss
I love the idea of the X100V but I already own Fuji lenses and love that I can use them with the XE4. Plus you can experiment with other lens brands like Leica. The one feature I wish was on the XE4 is that slick shutter/ISO dial but it’s not a deal breaker.
I was about to comment this too because are very underrated features that the X100V has and should definitely be on the list but I went through the comments and saw yours, good job!!!!
@@andrepel Not to mention how quiet it is! Personally, the X100V has cured my gear acquisition syndrome. To me, a fast prime is far more interesting than a slow zoom.
Honestly, it’s a really tough choice. I’ll probably end up owning both. :D IMO, if you’re gonna have only have one camera, the x-e4 still gives you the freedom to try other lenses until you’re sure you can commit to 23mm at all times, you can try faster appertures, etc. BUT if you’re sure you’re gonna do 95% of your shooting at 23mm, it’s hard to beat the image quality and package size of the x100v. I went for the x-e4 because I shoot in low light a lot and I love faster lenses. But I’m still super tempted to get an x100v for all those other times where I know I won’t need extra lenses and I’d rather go compact.
If ill be shooting at a concert, low light-ish and id need a bit of zooming. My Iphone did a horrible job last time. Would you recommend the XE4 with the 27mm pancake or the X100v? I'm very new to photography and If im not mistaken the 35mm on the x100v should be able to capture further subjects than the 27mm? I'm really looking for a compact one, and the 35mm on the xe4 is a bit big for me. So in short im looking for a compact camera for concerts since bulky ones arent allowed. I was considering the Sony RXVII but im really digging the fuji film simulations. Thank you so much!!
hmm the 27mm or the x100v's lens might be too wide unless you have really good seats. for concerts it depends mostly on how close you are. so a tight focal length (or a small compact with a zoom lens) or good seats will get you the best results imo !
You forgot the most important advantage of the X100 series in my opinion, which is the leaf shutter and the high speed flash synch it enables. No need to use an ND-filter for photography when you can use flash at ALL speeds! I use an X70 and the amount of (fill) flash is always spot on not matter if at night or in bright sunlight. That blew me away. Also compared to other compact cameras. Compared to a camera with interchangable lens (and the obligatory conventional shutter) this is the one killer feature.
i have x100t. I tried xe4 and the shutter felt so crisp and snappy. X100t feels so mushy and not satisfying. How is the x100v, has it improved? How is the autofocus?
I think the X100v is a very niche camera. It’s best suited for a particular shooter, whereas the X-E4 is far more suitable for a broader shooting experience. The fixed lens is the pivot point. You can still be a single lens user on the X-E4, except you get to choose what that lens is, and you have more options for adaptions. If you want compact, there’s options for that too. The other features are more about user experience and really don’t affect the quality of the visuals so they’re less polarizing factors. It’s honestly an odd decision by Fuji, in my opinion, to have the fixed lens attached to the body that has more body features. Feels like you pay more to be able to do less, just more efficiently. Very niche. I love this discussion! I agree that the X-E4 is not a X100v killer because there’s a market for it, but I’d imagine that it outsells it for sure given the price point and more lens options.
definitely! great points. having those features like nd and wr on the V really pushes it into that niche, like you said. the efficiency is really a big deal if you are married to the 23mm. that being said, the market for the xe4 does seem to be broader and fuji's design choices seem to correspond with that. I'm starting to understand which each camera is for and the benefits the differences come with. thanks for the comment :)
understandable! however mounting glass is a preference, 23 1.4 actually makes it more expensive and bigger. a tcl can be picked up for a tighter focal length as well
@@andrepel Once you put the TCL on it you are better off with an ILC model as the TCL still limits your aperture to f/2 and you lose the size advantage. I know, I did it on my X100 before swapping to an X-E. If I am shooting "50mm" I want f/1.4
@@andrepel No it doesn't. The price of the camera is static just because it can use more lenses does not increase its price. I already have the glass so I'm not spending any more money than the cost of the body.
its really just the interchangeable lenses for me. excellent points on the x100v, completely agree. unfortunately for me, with this knowledge, i now feel like either one is a compromise. enter the Xpro 3... well played fuji..
Love your content. Thinking of lenses. What are your thoughts on the 100V digital zoom? I shoot my X-E2 with either the 27mm or 35mm. Will I get the same shot and jpg feel? and
@@GONZOFAM7 It isn't just cropping, it is upsizing the image to the original dimensions too, it works just as good as if you had cropped and upsized in post-processing. Of course you still have the RAW file too if you shoot jpeg+raw (which you should!) Your 27mm is 41mm so that will be quite a difference with the the X100V at 50mm crop. Your 35mm is around 53mm so quite similar. You don't say what your 35mm is, f/2 or f1.4 because the X100V is only f/2 of course so you may see a difference with Depth of Field if you have the 35mm f/1.4
great video, I'm contemplating buying an x100v but in my country it costs 1,581 usd so I'm not sure, also I never used a good camera, do you think the x100v would be good for beginners?
i’d say you can take the time to learn any camera if you wanted. for beginners however (unless you need the video specs) you’re better off getting a used fuji like an older xpro or xt series. then you can try other lenses at a much cheaper price!
Depends on what you want to do with photography. If you want to go pro like weddings/events or smth like that I think you will need an option to change lenses. I mean you could do your pro work with 35mm equivalent lense but you know, there is a certain limit to that. If you want to make casual and hobby photos/travel (like street photography or posting to if page) with good video you are fine with just x100v.
@@andrepel Not with the same features added to the firmware and AF improvements there aren't. You need the latest model to match the features and performance found in the X100V, which is the whole point of the X-E4.
Actually im in two minds about buying one of these two Apart from all the advantages that x100v has got over xe4, i still cant convince myself how in the world a professional photographer choose a fixed lens camera ? It feels like a mobile phone with lots of extra settings Whereas you have the option of trying different lenses on xe4 and have a better experience... Despite what i mentioned above, im not a professional photographer and im really a beginer but i will appreciate you if you get me out of doubt. Which one of these two should i buy ?
its a tough decision since everyone's wants and needs are different. if you aren't sure, id definitely go for a camera with interchangeable lenses like the xe4. that way you can try out things to figure out what you want. the x100v may be limited in its capabilities as a fixed lens camera but its very efficient at doing what it does. so its kind of a specialist's camera - if you know you want the 35mm eq focal length there are few better options. its true you could do the same with the xe4 and a 35mm eq prime, but then you're missing out on the weather sealing, nd filter, flash, etc. so the fixed lens lets the V have all these other features at the expense of switching lenses. hope this helped clear things up :)
@@andrepel thanks for your response man👍 I think xe4 somehow suits me well however ignoring the beauty and the better material quality that v provides its difficult
I've got an X100F and would like a Fuji with interchangeable lens. I've got an Olympus - it's weather-sealed and two pro lenses. I've never loved it. I thought of sticking with it and upgrading to X100V for weather sealing and tilt screen. Out of the other Fuji cameras which do you like?
If you have the F and don't need the V, it's not bad to keep! If you're looking for an interchangeable lens Fuji w/o much need for video, I'd recommend the X-pro line (if you enjoy a rangefinder-esque style) or the X-T line (if you want a little more heft). You can pick up the earlier models for a good price and don't need the newest camera to be happy!
Sorry there is no comparison between these cameras from same brand ... it’s purely they avail options for choose among both as right from budget and other things ... no need to compare ...
i see what you're saying but...when choosing between two cameras you are essentially comparing them. cameras need to be compared because there is no one size fits all
@@andrepel agreed comparison Apple to is reasonable isn’t it ? Please do not take me otherwise .or personally as I am fujifilm user I have got fujifilm GFX 50S and I just brought XE3 it’s both are wonderful ... All the very best...
For a compact interchangeable lens camera, the XT30 still seems like a better option over the XE4. Its got the same sensor, comparable in size, better ergonomics without needing accessories and more dials. Currently at a bargain in the used market or same price new.
X-T30 isn't a rangefinder style, my guess is that people who buy the X-E and X-Pro do so for the RF styling, like I did. Ergonomics are subjective, you say "better", I say poorer due to the EVF position. Some may prefer the clean Leica Q2 looks of the X-E4.
The first thing a buyer notices is a difference in their prices. Features, built, handling, etc follow the price. That explains it. The important thing is whether the features, built, etc suit your purpose. They are many reviewers who talk up almost every camera they reviewed full stop, and mention only a few downsides or gross over them. I fell into the trap myself cos I was a novice then.
Good points. As a x-e3 user looking for upgrade, we share the exact same thoughts. I was so excited to hear the x-e4 announcement because I always wanted the flip/tilt screen at the back of my x-e3. I was simply hoping Fuji to just add the flip screen and update the sensor, then keep everything else the same, but boy was I wrong..... x-s10 is quite tempting on the other hand with IBIS but size is a major factor for me and I really like the rangefinder style better (x-s10 kinda feels like a Sony imo...) To current x-e3 user like me, I think there are just too much compromise (buttons/wheel/grip) to justify the upgrade. Instead I think I am going for a x100v as a secondary.
A message from the future, where I live (AU) x100v is over $2000 as opposed to xe4 kit (paired with 27mm f2.8) for $1400, I guess for $600 you can drop many of the features you mentioned. Buttons lay out comes down to habits, ND filter is the major loss but it's missing in other expensive fuji cameras too, not a big deal and you can get a physical one for $20. Interchangeble lens is about style, tilt screen is not really a factor, the sensor is the same and photo quality very close I'd say. My 2 cents. Thanks for the tips.
I feel like you buy the X100 series twice. First at the start of your photographic journey in order to learn the craft. Then you start to long for other focal lengths and sell it. Then you buy it again when you experienced that 35mm eq. is the focal length you use the most anyway. :-)
I am a primarily Nikon shooter. All my lens are Nikkor. For me x100v is compact travel everywhere hassle free camera.. I will buy this camera in a month or so... I am torn between silver or black..
LOL...that is truly personal preference. I would recommend if you can look at both silver and black in person, you will know which speaks to your soul. I got the black and love it. 🙃
Good job with your less-than-popular perspective. I also wonder why everyone seems to forget about the X100 line’s unique advantages when reviewing the X-E4. Please take care, though, that you don’t end your sentences with a questioning “right?” It really detracts from your authority when you say that after making a statement. Like many others, I also eagerly awaited X-E4’s glorious coming, but after seeing a ton of reviews, for now I’m just going to hold on to my X-T4 and X-E3.
thanks for the tip! i’ve noticed i say that as well, but they are not meant as questioning ‘rights’. its just how people from my area talk, akin to saying ‘you know?’
Both have a place. I went from a X100F to a XE4, while also having a XE3. For what I do, the XE4 is a better camera. I have nothing bad to say about my former X100F, and I'd definitely add a X100V to my cameras if Or when I have the chance. I'm glad that X100 folks are so passionate, but it isn't one or the other. It is what tool works best for you and sparks enough joy in your work.
Even if you want different focal lengths it might be cheaper to get a x100v + wide angle adapter (for 250) than an xe4 with 23 (450?) and 18mm (also 450ish). If you get the 27mm in a kit (150 extra) and an 18 it's cheaper. But I don't think the 18 is supposed to be amazing when it comes to af. But if you go for the pancakes it's much more portable compared to the x100v I think. So many things to consider... I'd be happy with either, but I'm leaning to xe4 bc I just don't want to give up the option to use a 16mm or a 55mm in the future. But that weather sealing and ovf though........
if you’re experimenting the x-e4 will allow you to use different lenses to see what you’d like! i’d recommend the x-e4 for anyone who is new, x100v if you’re commited to the 35mm eq and dont need anything else 🙂
If you're even questioning which one to get you're probably looking for a high quality camera, with a slim profile, that you can carry everyday without making decisions about extra gear. Get the x100v. At this price, there's no equivalent. If you prioritize having an array of lens options then you shouldn't even be considering the x100v. In that case, get yourself a proper camera that will blow both cameras out of the water. The ex-4 is just going to be a gateway into a more expensive, feature heavy camera anyway.
The internal ND and weather sealing is the only real world advantage that doesn’t cross into preference IMO. The internal ND is a huge enough feature (that should be standardized on way more cameras) that it can be the deciding factor alone. It’s the reason I originally bought the x100f when I already had a X-Pro 2. Ultimately I ended up selling the x100f despite how much I admired the design. It just never had the flexibility I needed. And you can have a single lens camera with an interchangeable system because Fuji has great pancake lens options if you want to keep it small. You can also easily adapt other small, fast lenses from other systems like the Leica m-mount or vintage. And I’ve gone months without changing a lens. The philosophy around the x100 series seems to be a foundation feature rich limitation. A interesting combination and I think it’s certainly commendable. Limitations are great for creativity. And it’s helpful that Fuji prices their gear so competitively so you don’t have to lose much if you decide their 23mm isn’t getting everything you need or if you grow away from that focal length for whatever reason. You can always jump models or upgrade easily as they release cameras sometimes yearly since the tech moves to fast. Ultimately I’d rather apply my own limitations in most cases rather than pay for limitations. I think Leica got the single lens point/shoot camera right with the Q2 - ignoring the price. Having the higher megapixel count so that the single lens can seamlessly, more or less, function as multi-focal length lens (as needed), is a very thoughtful design. If Fuji would offer a high megapixel x100 camera, I think I’d grab one as my everyday carry camera knowing I had a lot of crop flexibility that wasn’t necessarily at the forefront anytime I took a photo. But the x100 system is just too niche by design for me in most cases. I’d much rather just keep a single lens on the interchangeable system of the X-E4 and get 90% of what the x100v offers, but have the option to change that lens when it’s motivated by having the right tool for the creative decision. It’s hard to ignore that internal ND and weather sealing though. It’ll always feel missing on the X-E4.
The X-E4 is a nice versatile camera due to the ability to take multiple lenses. However, for the reasons stated in this video and more it will NEVER be comparable to the built, look and more importantly to me the FEELING! yes the FEELING! you get when shooting with the X100v.
Owning both myself, I grab the XE4 almost all the time. The one advantage to the X100v is the weathersealing. As for the EVF resolution, there just numbers and not a very noticeable difference, but the XE4 has better coverage. The XE4 is just a better camera for me. As for the lack of dials, that's personal preference. I like the minimalist design as it reminds me of my Leica Q2 monochrom.
May I ask, when grabbing the X-E4, what lenses do you tend to grab? the 27mm? or zoom? How does the bigger lenses feel on the small X-E4 if you have those? Thx!
If you are happy being limited to 23mm f/2 then great. If not, then get one of the other X-Trans IV cameras and some lenses. Why isn't it that simple? The rest of the differences are irrelevant if you want to swap focal length and maximum aperture, so that must be your starting point.
Because its not that simple. While you make a good point, if all you wanted in a camera is to switch lenses you can easily go with an xpro1 or xt1. But if you’re in the market for an xe4 or x100v you’re are looking for more features
@@andrepel Other ILC models have differing functions and body styles, but they all allow changing the lens. The comparison is therefore X-E4 vs. Other Fuji ILC models, not the X100V. If your fundamental requirement is to change lenses then there is no point looking at the feature list of the X100V at all. So the FIRST question is, do you want to change lens?
@@andrepel and totally outstanding... normally just medium or large format camera lenses have that. And I think that a leaf shutter doesn't cut your bokeh on fast shutter speeds. But I'm not sure with that.
For me, the biggest difference is the lens. There's no small Fuji lens, which can focus from 10 cm, like X100v can. XF 23 f2.0 starts from 22cm and internet says it's soft at close focus distances. New XF 27mm has 34cm. I think people love XF 16mm for its ability to focus close, which makes it super fun to use. My first real camera was Fuji X70, so I'm biased :)
If you´re putting the tele- and wideangle converters for the x100 series cameras into the equation, the "fixed lens restrictions" become even less of an issue.
Good review , always love the for factor of the 100v...if i had a choice I'd take both, so whenever I have the need to have different focal ranges i'll switch..currently shootng with EOS R5 and Fuji X-t3...whenever I feel like I want to have' a more sense of ocassion' shooting and taking my time to compose I like taking my X-t3 out and use cheap manual lenses like the 7artisans and rokinons on it :)
As an X100V owner I have to agree with what you’re saying. However, it’s hard to ignore the option of gradually being able to add additional prime lenses if you have an interchangeable lens camera. I know exactly how you feel, and I too have always wished I had the courage to ditch my Xpro3, because I really love shooting with the X100V, but I simply don’t have the courage to do so because every so often I really do need a different focal length.
i agree! which is why i feel like interchangeable lenses isn’t better or worse; just preference. i picked up an xpro1 myself to be able to enjoy other glass :)
Should there ever be dust on the sensor of the X100V you don't have any access to the sensor. Obviously you can't remove the lens, but you can do so on the X-E4.
good point, but getting dust in the sensor is extremely rare! especially for this camera, the lens is fixed and seal so tight i don’t see any gap or possibility of dust entering
I've watched most of the top ranking search videos. But I'm a little confused by your comment since I never said any particular review lacked criticism. On the contrary I think most reviewers did a very good job. If you're referring to the moments when talk about "people talking about" the V or E4, I'm talking about people in the comment sections and forums.
Atleast try it, yall beefing over caneras both sides haven't tested its pretty af, and no need to make a video, feels like u just wanna protect your purchase if your truly happy with it thats to keep to your self no need to prove your self....
i made a disclaimer saying i dont have the x-e4 with that exact intention. no beef here. i made the video for people who may be considering both options. i didn’t want them to be mistaken thinking that the x-e4 offers everything the x100v does
Good video - I think a major selling point of both models is the small form factor. To me though, it makes zero sense to go for the interchangeable lens option of the X-E4 & then totally change the form factor by putting bulky lenses on it (no matter how good the X-E4 is perceived to be).
@@andrepel Yes one of the smaller options would be nice on it - the problem's finding a prime the equal of the lens on the X100, that doesn't end up sky-rocketing the overall purchase price of the xe4.
You can pick up a *new* X-E3 for £350 from Park Cameras. Use the rest on a lens or two. 27mm f/2.8 pancake, Viltrox 56mm f/1.4 or a manual focus 35mm f/0.95 from 7Artisans and Mitakon. So many choices compared to the fixed 23mm f/2 on the X100 line. :)
Superior viewfinder to Xt4? Big claim. I don't suffer from light leak in backlit scenes that the xpro, xt-00"s, sx-10 and x100's all suffer. I can also clearly see the entirety of the frame in any XT model. You have to move your eye from corner to corner with the flush round finder, as the viewing circle is smaller than its internal LCD. How you got to a superior finder is a massive claim.
I have both. Both just different machines. BUT for EDC I'd say go for X100V because it's the simple one, weather sealed, that you'll actually take with you. Personally I just wish they made a 50mm equivalent X100V. The X500, or something.
Another thing that really makes a difference for me is price. I was scared to take my X100V with me for a long time because it's so expensive. I've now decided to be okay with scratches etc. and that has enabled a lot more usage. Of course I protect the lens, but body scratches are okay. I've started loving my X100V 100% more since I made this decision, and I stopped protecting it in a leather case.
thanks for your thoughts! i've had the exact same experience with my V haha. i used to baby it often but it came time where the photos took priority and the marks became battle scars
I think both cameras are great enough and I should have the X100V as a daily user and does not prevent if I take the E-X4 for the interchangeable lenses :)
I love the styling of the E4, but I love my X100V's OVF, Leaf shutter, ND filter, weather sealing and it's so damn sexy!!! I also own an X-Pro3 for the lens swapping and eyeballing the new 27mm II... Great video.. Thanks
@@andrepel I only use primes and currently have the 16 2.8, 35 1.4, and 50 f2. The 27 would be a nice small lens for most anything and I'm trying to justify getting one right now.. Thanks
Thanks for watching! Hope you enjoyed it. The $1050 price is for the 27mm f2.8. When comparing prices I compared the 23mm f2 lens (which is the same focal length as the x100v)
For me, the X-E4 interchangeable lens has a win spot for one reason - I can shoot without a lens - with the camera body mounted to my Skywatcher MN190 telescope for astrophotography... but, I would still not buy the X-E4, as I'd rather be using the less dense sensor of the X-E2 for astrophotography work.
Great content. I agree with most of you points & these are the reasons why I am looking to buy a used X-E3 rather than a new X-E4. I want the extra physical controls &, without weather sealing, why would I pay the extra price for an X-E4?
True. The X-E4 does have much better video specs. I'm more interested in having a good starting point in the FujiFilm system that will allow me to use Fuji lenses for everyday "dad" photography & short videos & allow me to use my vintage manual lenses for my more artistic photography. I might consider keeping my Nikon D7000 as a backup for its weather & dust protection.
Chris, your "artistic" comment flags a concern that you may get into custom film simulations with your vintage lenses. The X-E4 (and X-Pro3) have MAJOR advantages over the X-E3 in terms of saving custom settings with White Balance colour shifts which are required for using custom film simulations. It is frustrating enough for me to consider getting the X-E4 to replace the X-E3. There is more to the X-E4 (vs. X-E3) firmware that so-called "reviewers" fail to mention because thety are too busy gushing over a flip screen. You have the additions of fine control over film grain and a Clarity setting to enhance detail in the X-Trans IV cameras, you don't get that in the X-Trans III models. Don't get too hung on on the controls without deep diving into the firmware differences. To most people this is irrelevant, you may find them important as I do.
Thank you Fred. Alas, price is also a major plus for the X-E3. I am looking to make the expensive switch from Nikon to FujiFilm, so I am being price conscious.
@@chrisnovakowski9827 In that case, the X-E3 is an excellent buy IF you want the rangefinder style. Do look at the X-T30 sort too if you are happy with a central EVF. Try to keep within the X-Trans III models as a minimum if you can't push to X-Trans IV models.
getting tired by the x100v focal length. E4 gives opportunity to attach the XF35/2 etc. instead. This can make a difference and makes me thinking on selling my x100v.
Is see the use of the word "preference" used here and in the video to the exclusion of "need". If you need to capture sports, wildlife, landscape or use the camera for videoblogs, the X100V is not your camera or at least the best option. The E4 can be a fixed lens camera if you like (no leaf) and can be an interchangeable camera; the X100V will primarily be fixed (without the mediocre wide, zoom adapters). All that being said the X100V is the sexiest camera in the Fuji line. I am starting the think the X-S10 is the real sleeper here. Fuji should not have stripped the E4 of controls.
Yes, thank you for noticing! I tried to keep using preference as a way to show that cameras are very subjective and particular to the person who buys them. For some it may seem that I'm trying to knock the X-E4, where in actuality I wanted to highlight many of the features the x100v has - to avoid the misunderstanding that one would get everything an x100v offers in an X-E4 body. Also agreed, the X-S10 is an amazing camera in Fuji's current lineup!
X100V user here. Love the camera too. Fixed focal length is a challenge. I wish the buttons on the X100V was a bit more rigid/not as easy to move. For example the thumb wheel is too easy to move.
I shut this off the second you said you didn't have an XE4. You are just going off speculations, not from actual testing you've done? Very fanboy troll of a video.
yeah i literally said that. this video was speculatory in nature and i was very upfront about that. i said to take what i say with a grain of salt because of the fact. the two cameras are very similar and this video was for those looking into fujifilm without a clue of the nuances of what theyd be getting in each package since at the time the X-E4 was/is being heavily marketed as an x100v killer despite these few important differences
I just wanted to point out that you argue in reason 1 that the 23mm f2 mkii in the x100v can go down to f2 and this is new due to lens design, you could always do that it in the older models it only had an issue with hazing when shooting at close focus/macro style. The older models still perform extremely well at f2 in landscapes and environmental portraits just not in macro. I say this with the experience as someone who has shot with the x100s for 5 years but last year I decided to move to the xpro3 due to wanting to use old manual focus lenses as I miss proper manual focus, I don't like the focus by wire system. I agree with you that the x100v is better than the xe4 because I love the optical viewfinders and that feature alone is enough for me to choose the x100/xpro series over other options. I will say I miss having built in ND filters it's a crazy cool feature to have built into your camera.
I agree. The xe4 could never replace my x100v BUT I would add it to my collection if I wanted it. The x100v just makes things so simple for me. I can carry it with me everywhere and not lug around a huge bag with 100 lens inside 😭😂 great video
still considering an x-e4 with a 50mm 1.4 to go along with my x100v. sometimes i really do want that distance and compression. but, until my wallet is a little fatter, i'm more than content using my 100v as my only camera.
@@torinsall I have the X-S10 23f2, 50f2 and 56f1.2. I feel like a 100v alongside an X-S10 with a 50/56 mm would be a dream combo. But totally different cameras of course.
@@patrick-resendiz That sounds like a sweet combination. The new 70-300mm lens looks tempting. Have the 100-400 which is a great lens, but sometimes you want something a lot less weighty if you plan to be out all day with it.
Agree with much of your review. I have X100V and love it's compactness, new lens, built-in ND (soon for video, too...yay!!) and leaf shutter. My preference for zoom lenses is satisfied with the X-T4 plus zooms. The two cameras really complement each other. Oh...and the new X100V update will also allow use of Fine+Raw when using the digital telephoto. 😃
@@andrepel One think to decide is whether you need IBIS or can do without it. For stills it's not as critical, and for video standing still you could use a monopod with the x100v, but with video while walking you want IBIS. For stills the x100v f2 lens is great for low light. The cameras can overlap a lot, but then there are areas where one is better than the other. Think of the x100v as a carry everywhere stills camera you can shoot video with, and the xt4 as a hybrid stills/video camera (I *love* the stills/video switch...light years easier with completely separate menus and settings) you can use with different lenses. Face it...ultimately you will want both. 🤣😂🤣
x-e4 is 400 dollars cheaper, if everything technically same i go to e-x4...4sure. I dont wanna shoot with 7 dollars uv glass after spending 1600 dollars, for the sake of fully water protection...
de igual manera le doy el voto a la x100v. la Verdad la xe4 no se para quien está destinado. Prefiero ahorrar por más tiempo e irme por la xpro3. La xe3 pierde lo compacto y lo cómodo al tener que cargar con todos sus lentes
@@fredbloggs545 and you know that from personal experience or some tests ? Because every review of this lens is pointing this out. Especially in close distance photos.
X100 V leaf shutter, built in flash, ND filter, M/S/C (focus) switch, Viewfinder size and quality, grip of front + thumb rest on back, weather sealed, back of camera scroll wheel and more buttons and finally the combined iso/shutter dial.
yes! so many features. thanks for listing!
Carl,
All great features until you want to swap the 23mm f2 to another lens! Apples and Oranges.
@@Clove_Parma
I understand the point of the X100 as I had one.
They're both great cameras ... At the end of the day it really depends on your own user experience as photographer.
agreed! this video was not about calling any camera bad, but to highlight the camera's features and differences at a very similar price point
@@andrepel
"not having the worry about multiple lenses and gear allows one to focus on solely the shooting"
That's an argument for having a zoom lens, not a fixed focal length.
x100v is actually a complete camera with their converters option. you got 28mm and 50mm, it's two focal length that most photographers use in many scenarios
@@ElmarJournal yeah, and not many people talk about the digital teleconverter which actually works surprisingly well and without noticeable detail loss
@@fredbloggs545 nope....not the same. to be limited to only one focal length is definitely a difference to a zoom lens
I love the idea of the X100V but I already own Fuji lenses and love that I can use them with the XE4. Plus you can experiment with other lens brands like Leica. The one feature I wish was on the XE4 is that slick shutter/ISO dial but it’s not a deal breaker.
great points! the xe4 is fantastic for that, especially if you have other lenses you love :)
The X100V also has a leaf shutter and built-in flash. You can do some neat things with that when combined with the ND-filter.
I was about to comment this too because are very underrated features that the X100V has and should definitely be on the list but I went through the comments and saw yours, good job!!!!
thanks for mentioning this! i honestly forgot about these two
@@andrepel Not to mention how quiet it is!
Personally, the X100V has cured my gear acquisition syndrome. To me, a fast prime is far more interesting than a slow zoom.
This is huge, actually. Fill slash with wide apertures in bright light. Very, very useful. And it meters for this perfectly.
actual major benefits! He made this entire video and didn't mention the leaf shutter because he was talking about how the viewfinder is better/.
Honestly, it’s a really tough choice. I’ll probably end up owning both. :D
IMO, if you’re gonna have only have one camera, the x-e4 still gives you the freedom to try other lenses until you’re sure you can commit to 23mm at all times, you can try faster appertures, etc.
Image quality? they share the same sensor, you mean because of the lens?
@@guarinday69 I didn’t talk about image quality. Just that with the x100 you’re stuck with f2. If you want faster primes, the x-e4 is the only way.
Also the built in ND filter on the x100v should be mentioned too
i have x100t. I tried xe4 and the shutter felt so crisp and snappy. X100t feels so mushy and not satisfying. How is the x100v, has it improved? How is the autofocus?
Nice analysis! I'm torn between the two for a pocket camera... I'm leaning towards the x100v though... Main reason is the viewfinder.
None of them are pocket cameras.
Not sure why you got so many dislikes. You brought up some valid points and explained yourself clearly.
5 reasons why the xe4 is better m mount glass, 23mm f1.4 ,tele glass , smaller , cheaper
understandable! however mounting glass is a preference, 23 1.4 actually makes it more expensive and bigger. a tcl can be picked up for a tighter focal length as well
@@andrepel
Once you put the TCL on it you are better off with an ILC model as the TCL still limits your aperture to f/2 and you lose the size advantage.
Thanks for the video. I ended up getting the x100v after being disappointed with the missing buttons & dials of xe4...best decision ever!
love it!
Interesting 🤔
Is X100V's thumb rest similar to X-E4? In my place, only X100V "thumb rest" is available.
its really just the interchangeable lenses for me. excellent points on the x100v, completely agree. unfortunately for me, with this knowledge, i now feel like either one is a compromise. enter the Xpro 3... well played fuji..
haha, i know what you mean! decisions decisions...
Love your content. Thinking of lenses. What are your thoughts on the 100V digital zoom? I shoot my X-E2 with either the 27mm or 35mm. Will I get the same shot and jpg feel? and
thank you! what do you mean by digital zoom for the V?
@@andrepel the zoom function that lets you digitally punch in to 50mm and 70mm. I guess it is really cropping in camera.
@@GONZOFAM7
It isn't just cropping, it is upsizing the image to the original dimensions too, it works just as good as if you had cropped and upsized in post-processing. Of course you still have the RAW file too if you shoot jpeg+raw (which you should!)
Your 27mm is 41mm so that will be quite a difference with the the X100V at 50mm crop. Your 35mm is around 53mm so quite similar.
You don't say what your 35mm is, f/2 or f1.4 because the X100V is only f/2 of course so you may see a difference with Depth of Field if you have the 35mm f/1.4
great video, I'm contemplating buying an x100v but in my country it costs 1,581 usd so I'm not sure,
also I never used a good camera, do you think the x100v would be good for beginners?
i’d say you can take the time to learn any camera if you wanted. for beginners however (unless you need the video specs) you’re better off getting a used fuji like an older xpro or xt series. then you can try other lenses at a much cheaper price!
Phil, XE-3 is half the price. Add whatever lens you want to it.
Great video! Even if a small group thought the video wasn't needed....it was needed for me. Glad I subbed!
thanks man, means a lot !!!
I found a used x100v at a good price. Would you take that or get an xf23 F2 for xpro 3
I'm biased so I'd buy the x100v. if you already have the xpro3 however, you'd save a lot of $ by buying the 23
@@andrepel I ended up choosing the X100V. I found one in mint condition at a bargain I couldn’t pass up. I love it! Great video
You forgot the fantastic X100V leaf shutter. You can sync it to the flash at much higher shutter speeds than traditional focal-plane shutters.
yep! others have mentioned it down below as well. great aspect of the V!
the XE4 is for sure a better option to the X100V if one wants to use different lenses on a simple lightweight camera.
true if that’s what you need! though there are many good older/cheaper fujis for that as well
@@andrepel
Not with the same features added to the firmware and AF improvements there aren't. You need the latest model to match the features and performance found in the X100V, which is the whole point of the X-E4.
Actually im in two minds about buying one of these two
Apart from all the advantages that x100v has got over xe4, i still cant convince myself how in the world a professional photographer choose a fixed lens camera ?
It feels like a mobile phone with lots of extra settings
Whereas you have the option of trying different lenses on xe4 and have a better experience...
@@andrepel thanks for your response man👍
I think xe4 somehow suits me well however ignoring the beauty and the better material quality that v provides its difficult
Maybe his next video will be why silver cameras are better than black cameras.
For a compact interchangeable lens camera, the XT30 still seems like a better option over the XE4. Its got the same sensor, comparable in size, better ergonomics without needing accessories and more dials. Currently at a bargain in the used market or same price new.
x-t30 is a great option for a great price!
This is the only fair and thorough comparison I saw so far. well done and thanks
thank you!
Good points. As a x-e3 user looking for upgrade, we share the exact same thoughts. I was so excited to hear the x-e4 announcement because I always wanted the flip/tilt screen at the back of my x-e3. I was simply hoping Fuji to just add the flip screen and update the sensor, then keep everything else the same, but boy was I wrong.....
x-s10 is quite tempting on the other hand with IBIS but size is a major factor for me and I really like the rangefinder style better (x-s10 kinda feels like a Sony imo...)
To current x-e3 user like me, I think there are just too much compromise (buttons/wheel/grip) to justify the upgrade. Instead I think I am going for a x100v as a secondary.
great points! i also feel as if the xs10 is a little sonyish. still hard to go wrong with what fuji has to offer!
You may also consider a used X-Pro3.
As for me: I have the X100F but shoot mainly with my X-T4 + 90mm f2 nowadays. Feels like cheating. Every shot looks amazing. X-)
yeah, i see what you mean! planning to keep mine tho, i like it too much :)
black was my initial attraction but i'm secretly eyeing the silver every other day...
It is what tool works best for you and sparks enough joy in your work.
amen to that
If I want to use 23, 35 and 50 F2 I have to buy XE4 or the alternative is XT30
very true! wcl and tcl conversion lenses are also an option :)
But that weather sealing and ovf though........
yes, so tough since both are excellent cameras! if you want the option to use different lenses the xe4 is looking like a great choice!
Does the x100v have a record limit for video?
yep, 10 min for 4k 15 for 1080; unlimited with an external recorder
how you can say that ability to change lens is not important, its the main advantage of x-e4, its huge option to not be stucked with one lens
I really want the x100v but nowhere to buy it without the price being much higher than the actual price which is why I'm leaning towards xe4 more
Thank you so much for the information!
Just got a question, if I want to use them for landscape photography, which would be better?
if you’re experimenting the x-e4 will allow you to use different lenses to see what you’d like! i’d recommend the x-e4 for anyone who is new, x100v if you’re commited to the 35mm eq and dont need anything else 🙂
@@andrepel thanks!!
I like the minimalist design as it reminds me of my Leica Q2 monochrom.
interesting perspective! glad the xe4 is suiting your needs! :)
May I ask, when grabbing the X-E4, what lenses do you tend to grab? the 27mm? or zoom? How does the bigger lenses feel on the small X-E4 if you have those? Thx!
does x100v overheat? if it does it also makes a difference for me.
@@andrepel
Other ILC models have differing functions and body styles, but they all allow changing the lens. The comparison is therefore X-E4 vs. Other Fuji ILC models, not the X100V.
If your fundamental requirement is to change lenses then there is no point looking at the feature list of the X100V at all.
So the FIRST question is, do you want to change lens?
The x100V has also an leaf shutter! So you can flash faster than 1/250 ;)
yes, great point! extremely useful!
My first real camera was Fuji X70, so I'm biased :)
great points! i typically dont get that close so i didnt mention it but close focus is very useful!
What strap is that you’re using?
moment’s leather camera strap!
If you´re putting the tele- and wideangle converters for the x100 series cameras into the equation, the "fixed lens restrictions" become even less of an issue.
thanks for stopping by george, glad you enjoyed this video!
leaf shutter + flash sync speed put the V in a different class for me.
true true!
The built in flash is also one of the reasons in usability. I'm a happy X100s user myself, and am looking for something faster now.
yes! built in flash is one of the great benefits of the V
Good review , always love the for factor of the 100v...if i had a choice I'd take both, so whenever I have the need to have different focal ranges i'll switch..currently shootng with EOS R5 and Fuji X-t3...whenever I feel like I want to have' a more sense of ocassion' shooting and taking my time to compose I like taking my X-t3 out and use cheap manual lenses like the 7artisans and rokinons on it :)
sounds fun! i love slowing down with manual lenses as well :)
@@andrepel yup definitely is :)
Firing some quality content man! Keep it going
thank you!!!
@@andrepel Keep looking at the wcl but it's still backordered.
An ILC gives you the option of only using the 23mm f2 if you want to limit yourself.
What videos did you watch? All the videos I saw criticized the X-E4 as much as they praised it
I've watched most of the top ranking search videos. But I'm a little confused by your comment since I never said any particular review lacked criticism. On the contrary I think most reviewers did a very good job.
If you're referring to the moments when talk about "people talking about" the V or E4, I'm talking about people in the comment sections and forums.
Still rockin my x70, shame there was only one iteration.
maybe we'll get an x80!
To me though, it makes zero sense to go for the interchangeable lens option of the X-E4 & then totally change the form factor by putting bulky lenses on it (no matter how good the X-E4 is perceived to be).
agreed! id imagine one of the smaller primes would fit lovely on the xe4
@@andrepel Yes one of the smaller options would be nice on it - the problem's finding a prime the equal of the lens on the X100, that doesn't end up sky-rocketing the overall purchase price of the xe4.
Ugh I'm honestly so stuck between the X100V and X-E4. In the UK the E4 is priced around £350 cheaper, and I like the 41mm eq. So hard to choose!
if you like the 41mm then the xe4 is a great choice! if you want the features the x100v offers its not a bad option either
That was a wonderful discussion.
thank you :)))
How you got to a superior finder is a massive claim.
xe4, not xt4
I haven't made this decision yet for my X-E4 so that might be the reason I prefer the X100V for EDC :)
thanks for your thoughts! i've had the exact same experience with my V haha. i used to baby it often but it came time where the photos took priority and the marks became battle scars
@@andrepel 'battle scars' beautiful 😊 Imma go with 'usage souvenirs'
I think both cameras are great enough and I should have the X100V as a daily user and does not prevent if I take the E-X4 for the interchangeable lenses :)
great point!
I love the styling of the E4, but I love my X100V's OVF, Leaf shutter, ND filter, weather sealing and it's so damn sexy!!! I also own an X-Pro3 for the lens swapping and eyeballing the new 27mm II... Great video.. Thanks
thanks, great points! but if you got an xpro3 and add the 27mm it sounds like you got a solid setup already!
@@andrepel I only use primes and currently have the 16 2.8, 35 1.4, and 50 f2. The 27 would be a nice small lens for most anything and I'm trying to justify getting one right now.. Thanks
Thanks for your take. Helpful for someone considering Fuji. X-E4 w/ lens is $1050 btw.
Thanks for watching! Hope you enjoyed it. The $1050 price is for the 27mm f2.8. When comparing prices I compared the 23mm f2 lens (which is the same focal length as the x100v)
@@andrepel Ah I missed that!
For me, the X-E4 interchangeable lens has a win spot for one reason - I can shoot without a lens - with the camera body mounted to my Skywatcher MN190 telescope for astrophotography... but, I would still not buy the X-E4, as I'd rather be using the less dense sensor of the X-E2 for astrophotography work.
woah i did not know you could do that! great point :)
Great content. I agree with most of you points & these are the reasons why I am looking to buy a used X-E3 rather than a new X-E4. I want the extra physical controls &, without weather sealing, why would I pay the extra price for an X-E4?
true! unless you need the video specs of the xe4, the xe3 is a great option!
@@chrisnovakowski9827
In that case, the X-E3 is an excellent buy IF you want the rangefinder style. Do look at the X-T30 sort too if you are happy with a central EVF. Try to keep within the X-Trans III models as a minimum if you can't push to X-Trans IV models.
Thanks for use my music. ♥️
thanks for making great music :)
getting tired by the x100v focal length. E4 gives opportunity to attach the XF35/2 etc. instead. This can make a difference and makes me thinking on selling my x100v.
understandable, the x100v is not for everyone especially if you prefer other lenses :)
For example the thumb wheel is too easy to move.
true!
Great comparison video! I love my Fuji X100V! 📸
Leaf shutter of the 100V > focal plane shutter of all the others. Focal plane shutters just can't do some things a leaf shutter can do.
true, leaf shutter is amazing!
All good if you actually use it. HSS takes away much of the advantages.
Man you forgot to mention the unique leaf shutter the x100 V has much more important than these second hand price comparisons, no ?
you are correct! others have mentioned it down below as well. I got wrapped up in a lot of the things and forgot!
Very good video!
thanks!
Well put across points
thanks as always!
X-T30 and X100v. Problem solved. No issue with the absense of WR on the 30, happy times!
I will say I miss having built in ND filters it's a crazy cool feature to have built into your camera.
thanks for pointing that out!
I agree. The xe4 could never replace my x100v BUT I would add it to my collection if I wanted it. The x100v just makes things so simple for me. I can carry it with me everywhere and not lug around a huge bag with 100 lens inside 😭😂 great video
true! the simplicity makes things so convenient!
still considering an x-e4 with a 50mm 1.4 to go along with my x100v. sometimes i really do want that distance and compression. but, until my wallet is a little fatter, i'm more than content using my 100v as my only camera.
I would recommend you consider the X-S10 instead of the X-E4. The X-S10 is small, has IBIS and has a good grip.
haha im the same! a 50mm is next on my list
x-s10 is very tempting!
The X-E4 is better at 35 f/1.4 than the X-100V. Oh wait....
😁
Got a black V in like new condition for 900€. I'm super happy with that deal. Next step is to black this thing out.
wow that's an amazing deal...
wow that's awesome! to be honest i'm also x-t4 curious. although i don't need it, its extremely tempting!
OK..OK I am convinced !!
yay!
I HAD A VERY BAD EXPERIENCE WITH THE FUJI X100V. FOR ME A BAD CAMERA. IM HAPPY WITH THE XE4
x-e4 is 400 dollars cheaper, if everything technically same i go to e-x4...4sure. I dont wanna shoot with 7 dollars uv glass after spending 1600 dollars, for the sake of fully water protection...
In my Region the X100V currently is 999€ (kit-lens version) vs 1600€ x100v :O
Articulate. Interesting. Keep producing. Thumbs up. Good man.
appreciate it ! :)
Lets not forget the X100V has a leaf shutter which no XF lens will
Great, now try to shoot it a 35mm f/0.95. Oh wait....you can't!
@charles yep! leaf shutter is great!
@fred wow
@fred and that’s why I also have an xt30 and an xt4. It is all a matter of what your circumstances require. Just saying

This is the realest shit you ever spoke!!! Keep up the good work Pondre. ✌️
haha thanks!
Yes it is a x100v killer ...x100v is an oven when it overheat
I needed this copium.
😂
It's et cetera, not eksetera.
Yes, but the X-S10
haha; deserves its own video!
I wish I could get an x100v used that is cheaper than the recommended retail price. Or even just a new one that is still at $1400
i agree

good to know! i've never done a side by side since both are sharp enough for my needs
No it isn't.
@@fredbloggs545 and you know that from personal experience or some tests ? Because every review of this lens is pointing this out. Especially in close distance photos.
