a) he's playing it in the animation, taken from the end of DR in which they're playing the end of Morte Lumina, which is actually just Blazing Star condensed to fit the film.
b) It's got a distinct Toki style. The solo is much less complicated, smooth, or melodic than most Dethklok songs, hinting at it not being Skwisgaar, but Toki. It's one of my favourite aspects of this song-how you can TELL musically that they let Toki have a solo, which is previously unheard of. People critique Blazing Star for having a worse solo than most Dethklok songs, but that's the point, and it makes it even more special.
Pickles voice is so fucking underrated, the way Brendan can seemlessly move between those power gutturals and those ballad-esque vocals Pickles uses is amazing
It's kind of weird having to disassociate Brendan with Dethklok. If you listen to his Galaktikon albums, all you hear is pickles. Then he busts out some growls like in My Name is Murder and it sounds like a song with a guest appearance from Nathan. It sounds weird but I've been watching Metalocalypse for so long now that when I hear these bands play, I don't see Brendan in my head I see the band from the show

I'm kinda mad with my younger self. When I first started watching this show, it seemed really stupid and the music was decent/ok-ish. Now that it isn't around anymore, I find myself going back to listening to the songs and watching clips of the show online. Apparently there was a whole story and it was building up to something huge but got canceled before that happened.
It was hinted at that "Galaktikon II: Become the Storm" (tracks ordered by how they are on the vinyl, not the other releases) is a summary of the events we didn't get to see. Some view it as a conclusion, others as a tribute. But, yeah.... one more season and another movie could have made for the most metal ending.

I hated Doomstar Requiem when it first aired. I recently rewatched the entire series, including Doomstar. I don't know if I've just matured more, or if I've come to appreciate Dethklok even more since there is no new material, but I can honestly say Doomstar Requiem blew me away watching it again almost 7 years later. Brendan Small is beyond talented, as well as the others involved in the project. I have to wonder why I hated Doomstar the first go-around. Maybe it was just ahead of its time?!? lol it is truly an epic fucking story.

Unfortunately, Brendon said the next season will be the very last - not because of adultswim non-agreement or rights problems, he simply decided to stop the series. It has to be more brutal than ever to create the perfect ending!

Tony C Thanks Tony C, I believe there are a couple messed up lyrics in this vid. I picked them out by ear, and didn't think to review after I completed it. Spending 10 straight hours on it overnight probably gave me the good 'nuff mentality at the end there. looking back, it'd have been worth the extra effort.

I like how they actually progressively become better music artists as the show goes on. If you listen to the 3 albums each one is better in sound quality and theme and feel then the last. I love that detail and it really makes this show my absolute favorite musical
You mean none of them.....this is literally nothing for any of them these are the best death metal musicians available....now Brendan small is a genius.... everyone else is playing what he says to play gene hoglan may be the only one getting to contribute he is the only one remotely near Brendan's level of musical genius ...the music stays the same level of musical completely the whole series sorry to be a downer for you but it's 1 man to credit with it's creation and a CPL others with performance

Incredible musician no doubt but his ability to write high high quality melodeath/death metal only improved the longer he was doing it for dethklok. Also you’re underselling Gene lol, he’s very widely considered one of the best metal drummers ever. Both Brendon and Gene are amazing musicians.

The songs tell a story....the bands journey from being total selfish douchecanoes to heroic badasses. Great video!

Not just these songs, but the series as a whole. It's very subtle and easy to miss, but if you pay attention you'll notice that the members of Dethklok gradually growing into better and more emotionally rounded people with each subsequent episode.
At the start, they were little more than a pack of bestial psychopaths who had pretty much zero regard for human life or understanding of acceptable social behavior, thoughtlessly leaving a trail of violence and mayhem in pursuit of their every whim with total impunity thanks to their ungodly wealth and the worldwide devotion of their rabid fans. Despite their privilege, though, they openly despised everyone who worshipped them and protected them, and even hated each other's company despite working and living together. They were also far more prone to deliberate violence and brutality, threatening to kill Ofdensen and other dedicated employees over the slightest inconveniences and openly mocking a dead fan on live TV in front of an entire courtroom (which presumably also included the fan's grieving family) while being sued for negligence, confident in the arrogant (yet completely correct) assumption that they would suffer no consequences simply by virtue of being who and what they were. They even abuse and revile their own families, with Murderface going so far as to try strangling his own Grandmother to death. Of course, his grandma was pretty fucked up and violent herself, but the fact that he tried doing it in broad at a public minigolf course in broad daylight suggests a profoundly warped and self-destructive mind hiding just beneath that grotesque mug of his.
But as the show continues and the plot begins to move forward, we are shown more and more instances of what it was that made them so disturbed and hateful, the life events that shaped them and the myriad of self-doubt and sadness lurking inside their black and maggot-infested little hearts. Soon enough, they too begin to notice these things in themselves and end up having to confront their inner demons and insecurities for one reason or another. This forces them to display vulnerability in front of each other, behavior that they previously associated with weakness and failure, only by this point it's started to become apparent that their clinically detached tough guy nonsense is likely just a front they're puttingt up so that they don't have to experience emotional pain and feel ashamed about their previous actions, violently repressing the sickness in their souls. The experience begins to humble them, making them warm up to other people. One notable one is Charles Foster Ofdensen, the CFO and manager whom the boys had previously threatened to murder, but then later come to appreciate and respect once they begin to realize how utterly lost they would be without his help. This inspires them to make a better effort to behave themselves in public (even if they don't always succeed at it) and try taking their manager's advice into consideration more often to show Charles that they trust him to know what's best for them.
Eventually, they stop seeing him as merely a respected colleague and begin to view him as a beloved parental figure and seek his approval like unruly brothers with a caring yet stern father. (This also cleverly foreshadows the central theme of brotherhood which occurs all throughout the Doomstar Requiem special. Through their attempts to please Ofdensen, the band also begin to feel their altitudes toward their fans and humanity in general growing slightly less cold and hateful, getting closer to humanity instead of standing above it in cruel judgment. This parallels a lot of real life pagan myths that have occurred throughout history that depict arrogant and misanthropic gods who are humbled by the mortals they once scorned, either through a humiliating defeat or through going among humans and seeing another side to them that they find admirable, coming to cherish mankind and try to protect them from an existential threat.
