@@TrackingShots Ikr!! it was soo sweet I was in tears just like him also I saw your vid on akane banashi. tysm for spreading the word makes me glad to know ppl are spreading awareness abt this master piece!!
Prodigy-focused-stories is what really hooks me on manga. After My Dress-Up Darling I'm open for more. I will give this a shot when Viz Media just announced Akane-banashi will get printed in the west after only 26 chapters. This looks very promising and could go as far as to 30-40 volumes like Prince of Tennis and Food Wars if the mangaka has good ideas and don't lose creativity for lazy tropes. I haven't been this intrigued by a Shonen Jump prodigy-focused-story since Food Wars. Aniplex of America liked Viz Media's tweet about Akane-banashi getting printed in volumes. CloverWorks is my candidate for the anime adaptation after they nailed My Dress-Up Darling.
I also recently got into reading more new manga and man, I cannot express the sort of fear I get that a story I'm in love with will get abruptly ended that reading these series. After picking up red hood at around Ch7 and seeing it get better and better, falling in love with it's characters and worldbuilding just to get cancelled I'm super weary of picking up brand new manga, but I'm really glad I still did for Akane-banashi. Akane-banashi is so solid and I would just hate to see it disappear.
I was also worried for the safety of akane banashi in the magazine as rakugo is an art form typically enjoyed by middle aged or elderly people in Japan, however the sales have been decent and it doesn’t have a competing manga in the magazine. It might’ve had a harder time if the writer for act-age hadn’t been a complete scumbag as 2 series about the performing arts probably would’ve cannibalized each other in the popularity rankings. I guess it’s only competition in that regard is pppppp but I honestly don’t know anyone who’s reading that so I don’t know how it’s doing
I ultimately think Akane-banashi will survive, but predicting Shonen Jump cuts and trying to determine the popularity of titles internationally is not a business I want to be in. I’ve watched Super Eyepatch Wolf tear his hair out annually trying to make sense of sales numbers, and it seems like an incredibly difficult and thankless gig.
im so glad i got your channel reccomended because the algorithm likes breaking bad content [i know from experience look at my video view counts lol]. you have a great narration voice and a knack for holding my attention with simple but effective editing style. keep it up!
Gosh, I love Akane-banashi. Easily the best new Jump series from this year. It does practically everything well and is one of those series where I’m on the edge of my seat at the end of every chapter (of all ~20 series in the magazine). An amazing new series. I recommend it to anyone looking for a great series to get on the train early for- this is the one!
I expected this to be more about "Writing manga Shonen Jump won't cancel" and less just a review of this manga. It's a good review, but I'd really be interested in an analysis of what the cancelled manga do wrong and what the ones that stick around do right.
Question! *raises hand* If Jump cancels a series, one would assume they no longer have the license/rights to it, no? So can't that mangaka just go independent in their spare time (of what I know the Japanese have notoriously little)? I mean, if you are really passionate about a story, tell it! Don't let the cancellation in a magazine stop you! Make it a webcomic! Then it'll automatically be public to everyone!
8 months later, not only is Akane Banashi still alive, but your observation about the manga not showing Akane's father remains true to this day.
2 months later.. it happened yay!
It was everything I could have wanted and more 🥺

I like the effects and format of this one a lot, thought I would really hate the content of this video tbh

Couldn’t have said it better. Thank you for watching my video!
Protect from axe we shall
Hey the first and second volume was recommended by Oda and Anno respectively,so there are eyes on it.
I can’t imagine being a mangaka and getting praised by Oda. That’s like Michael Jordan saying you’ve got game.
Those are some serious eyes 👀

It really feels like the start of a new classic. Couldn’t agree more.
