  • What does faith without works is dead mean? How do we know if we've done enough works? How are good works produced in and through the Christian? These questions and more are answered by Pastor Erick Sorensen in this week's episode.

Thank you for this. Fabulous explanation, E-rock! This is an area where I’ve struggled time and time again and unfortunately been taken in some very work-based righteousness directions and rabbit trails that the Lord, in His mercy, gently guided me back from and keeps putting me back on the path of grace and faith in Christ’s work alone. This is a message I will need to preach to myself every day probably for the rest of my life. Glad this ministry exists. Be well!

Q what did JESUS Say when confronted with the same question? (V28).
    John 6 v 29 ~ faith is our work
    Believing in Him✝️🩸🕊️👑
James also added laws at the end of Acts 15 council.

    Great commentary, as usual.
I am puzzled though, why I cannot find a lectionary which includes James 2:21 and James 2:23 as readings,
since they appear to be James' "proof texts" for "Faith without works is dead".
James reminds us about the Works of Abraham but he does not discuss the Works of the LORD.
After "Abraham believed in the LORD, and was credited with righteousness" (James 2:23)
the LORD performs the "Covenant between the Pieces" (Genesis 15)
After "Abraham agrees to binding his son" (James 2:21)
the LORD refuses the sacrifice and provides his own better offering. (Genesis 22)
In both cases, it is the LORD that performs the Work.
In obedience to the LORD, the work Abraham accomplishes is cutting:
    1. the Pieces, 2. circumcism, and 3. the Akedah.
So, according to James, what cutting is required of us?
Perhaps cutting out favoritism, wagging tongues, selfish ambition, quarrels, pride, judging others,
and oppression of workers in obedience to the LORD is evidence our faith is alive.
