Great ideas. I can't think of an original idea. Maybe he could make a cake and somehow after baking it put his DS inside then cut it open? Also how the hell did this comment get so many likes!
glp fangirl I just wanted to positivly nickname him, "Cooking Papa" because he plays and cooks Cooking Mama's recipies. I like how GameTim is such a positive guy. (^_^)
For the future, miso soup usually uses a type of seaweed called wakame in it, not the roasted variety. The roasted seaweed was probably really soggy... ^_^
I suppose Cooking Mama being a Japanese game took it as common knowledge? Also the translators probably thought no one would know/care enough about the variety of seaweed, especially since simply 'seaweed' is generally known by Westerners. He also used the wrong kind of tofu - he needed silken tofu, which is smooth and soft like flan/pudding, not the pressed tofu he got which is porous and crumbly. BIG flavour enhancer he also missed out on was katsuobushi, or bonito flakes. It's how dashi stock gets packed with umami flavour and salt! And a MUST have base for miso soup! Such a pity, I hope he tries a legit miso soup some time cause's it's the most simple yet comforting soup around! :)
The only problem with "dried kelp" is there are a few different grades and they need to be prefixed (wiped off) and generally soaking in water for a while before boiling. Bonito flakes are another way to put more umami into miso soup. If not using dried shitake mushrooms will always work and are easier to find. Also I don't think I've ever had miso soup without the green onion.
You should try making squid tempura! Then again, that may be too fishy for your taste. I would love to see this dish be prepared and fin-ished though. If you messed it up, I'm sure you'd feel gill-ty. Have fin! I mean, fun!
I'm so happy that you do this! I played cooking mama a couple of months ago and thought it would be a good idea for a UA-cam channel to recreate cooking mama recipes following the game instructions and you're doing it! Also those puns were flawless ;)
Hi Tim, I was surprised! Your intro made me laugh. You deserved yourself a new subscriber. ^_^ Please continue this series as I really enjoy watching it.
when a milestone happens (either reaching a # of videos made, subscribers (100k would be good), views on 1 video) you should make a cooking mama special. my suggestion would be to do all of the very easy 1-3 step recipes (like popcorn and hot dog) and put them into one video. You could also do Minestrone since it almost looks like the word milestone.
I love vegan miso soup myself! Green onion is a fantastic add in to stew it with, I feel like it gives a lot more flavour. And fried tofu is definitely better than regular tofu in soup imo.
Cooking mama basically added the ingredients on the reverse order. Also dashi is usually both Konbu (kelp) and Bonito (fossilized fish). Still, it's pretty hard to mess up miso soup. I made it with a different base due to availability and its still good
Miso soup is stupid easy. I use a very similar recipe, but I use Swiss chard because of the health benefits and taste. It's my go-to sick food! I use the seaweed to make the stock and then add in everything else, no straining. I like to use lots of green onion, too.
To prevent the miso paste from burning you should put the desired amout of paste an a ladle and then add the hot stock little by little to the miso to dilute it. Then add the miso broth into the soup.
another great video! I look forward to these (and the puns) every week tbh. anyone else kinda shocked about the tofu tho?? I never knew they came in big floppy blocks like that 😷 I always thought tofu was just a myth lol
I'm not sure if "green onion" is an american thing, but in England yhe small ones are called spring onions and the large ones are called leeks. Spring onion has a stronger taste and is often put in salads while leeks are mild and can be boiled, roasted or put in soup.
Pro-tip: I've heard that the best way to add miso paste to the broth is to first mix and dissolve it into a small amount of the broth on the side before adding it to the whole. Just thought you'd like to know. :)
I swear you never run out of ideas for the opening
Karl the Hippie next thing you know, he's gonna take it out of coffee or something rofl
Karl the Hippie I was hoping it would pop out of the toaster
Great ideas. I can't think of an original idea. Maybe he could make a cake and somehow after baking it put his DS inside then cut it open? Also how the hell did this comment get so many likes!
Karl the Hippie ikr😂😂
Karl the Hippie tru
Hi, Cooking Papa. Thanks for the puns and miso soup video.
Emily Vang ohh god. please not cooking papa. that's so unnecessary and cringy.
glp fangirl what about cooking daddy?
Emily Vang better
Evelia Villalobos even better than mama
glp fangirl I just wanted to positivly nickname him, "Cooking Papa" because he plays and cooks Cooking Mama's recipies. I like how GameTim is such a positive guy. (^_^)
How do you flawlessly pull off these puns!

Sea_Plays :3 STOP!
I Don't Really Care Okay?
See wee'd, doughnut...... know at the moment lettuce get back to you later
Practice I guess lol
I Don't Really Care Okay? Awesome profile pic!:D
For the future, miso soup usually uses a type of seaweed called wakame in it, not the roasted variety. The roasted seaweed was probably really soggy... ^_^
That's what I wanted to say as well, too bad Cooking Mama doesn't state what kind of seaweed you would need.
Wakame for garnish, Konbu for stock
I suppose Cooking Mama being a Japanese game took it as common knowledge? Also the translators probably thought no one would know/care enough about the variety of seaweed, especially since simply 'seaweed' is generally known by Westerners.

Laura Toole and it's usually made with silken tofu, not firm 🤔 but I was thinking the same thing about the seaweed!
plus you wouldnt use cooking mama in the way hes using it
The fact you and cooking mama both used a red pot to strain the kelp was satisfying 3:24
Why am ı in love with this Cooking Mama sound at 0:26
Little Mix Turkey "cewking MAHMUH!"
Little Mix Turkey it is a Japanese game and every thing in Japan is so kawaii
Dachliana Charitable ...(there must be something you don't know)

*Tim gets stabbed*
*covers wound with hand only to discover DS shaped lump just underneath the skin*
"Oh hey... whats this?"
It’s cooking mama.
Rips. Out lump
*ItS cOoKiNg MaMa*
You LIAR. My rice, instant ramen and tortilla concoction did NOT give me a DS. I wonder what I did wrong...
it didnt work for me either at first but when i added a little bit of salt it worked!
Brenda Goh
You need to get the instant ramen without vegetables so the ds isn't sticky
Brenda Goh
Dumb idiot.
You forgot sugar and salt! :) don't forget it next time.
I used wheat bread instead of a tortilla and ended up with one of those weird ball and cup game things. :(
Brenda Goh It's a Japanese toy called Kendama.
I just figured out how to make/cook a DS...
Miso lonely.
No? Ok.
Ah, here we go, here come the puns XD

'I don't need any kelp' this is the worst pun yet.
Alisa Tang van der I don't understand
Mar Fung Looks like you needed some kelp.
It makes me feel misory
"that'd make miso happy" is one of the best things I have ever heard in my entire life.
The only problem with "dried kelp" is there are a few different grades and they need to be prefixed (wiped off) and generally soaking in water for a while before boiling. Bonito flakes are another way to put more umami into miso soup.

To prevent the miso paste from burning you should put the desired amout of paste an a ladle and then add the hot stock little by little to the miso to dilute it. Then add the miso broth into the soup.

I'm not sure if "green onion" is an american thing, but in England yhe small ones are called spring onions and the large ones are called leeks. Spring onion has a stronger taste and is often put in salads while leeks are mild and can be boiled, roasted or put in soup.
