yay for deleting social media!!! I did it last October and my life has improved so much. So happy for you!
I've never had a Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter account. I have a LinkedIn account (and recently added someone I know from the Latin chat) and a GitHub account.
Does Discord or Slack count as a social medium?
As a design student and a language lover, I'm very much ready to see any videos you put up on your channel. Great to see you again! 🤗
Thanks so much Ana! 💕
Here too✨
I deleted instagram for a long time now. It gave me the freedom I have never thought of. No more seeing people pretend to be someone they are not, no more commercials, no more scrolling. Living without it is life changing. Happy to see that you also experienced that.
Great points, making me rethink what I want. Slow down, Get off social media, maybe taking up study again 🤔
As almost everyone here, I found you because of your language related content. You were the one who got me into languages by being so passionate about my mother tongue (Hungarian) and I'll never forget how much I owe you. But as you've slowly been sharing about your life I found out that my way of thinking is similar to yours. I'm a Christian, too and I think you're such a valuable person❤ I am happy you feel like posting on YT
Everyone is valuable though
@@missNCW Yes, I really didn't mean it like someome wouldn't be valuable. If it can be understood this way, I'm sorry, I didn't mean it
I had a huge break in my language learning journey, several years. I had moved to Hungary then, I had learned Hungarian by immersion, and I didn't feel like learning other languages from books. I got married, I had my kids. But when the kids grew older, my passion for language learning came back. So don't worry about a break in language learning. Just do what feels natural to do.
Deleting social media changed my life. Proud of you!
Day In The Life Content would be cool since you are doing so many varied things now. Academic content would also be very cool, like how you're planning your thesis, research advice, worklife balance, etc.
I dropped off of social media in 2020 and I am so much happier. UA-cam is the place I still go because I can find so much positive and educational content. My advice if you still want to, is to just make slice of life content. What you have been studying, cool new supplies you find, any interesting places that you go. Doesn’t have to be long, just to keep in touch with people you have connected with. I am getting ready to start a new phase of life myself, with an empty nest. I think it is a great idea to reevaluate how you want to spend your time and align with your new goals. Best of luck to you and God bless.
Honestly I’m so tired of watching content creators push uninspired unoriginal content for views I’m interested in seeing what genuinely interests you as a person. Also it’s so important to be able to make changes in order to direct your life where you need it to go and support your decision 100%. Excited for you in your new chapter in life :)
Congratulations! I also deleted my social media a year ago (except YT). My mental health is more stable now and I really don't miss anything about FB or IG. Now I am trying to replace UA-cam main page and algorithm with RSS and feeds, in order to really focus on when and what type of content I want to consume. Thank you for sharing!
Can you tell me more about how you use RSS feeds with UA-cam?
Twitter can be a cesspool of hate...And Insta doesn't show unless you advertise! You are choosing to FOCUS your precious life on what interests you! And you are like the 3 UA-camr, who is stepping away- but thank gosh you are not leaving YT but other social. I like mix of language and other stuff. TO BE REALLY HONEST I always wondered how you had a social life ie. dating with so much lang. study. But that was a phase of your life Lindy, now you have others things coming forward.
Congratulation!!!! Enjoy your life. You deserve it.
Life is a short line of existence, we cannot waste time with vain things (social networks) as these only serve to shorten our existence even more. Congratulations on making the decision, your life will definitely improve a lot from now on.
Nobody is going to be on their deathbed thinking I wish I hadn't let my social media followers down Lol. So do whatever you think is best. If you move away from language, I enjoyed it while it lasted. Thanks for all the great content!
Congrats on the engagement Lindie. Please don't give up language learning and please take care of yourself. Our health is so important so rest when you need to. God loves you.
As the good book says: "For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under Heaven." (Ecc 3,1).
It's exciting to move on to new things and rewarding to come back in memory to the old ones after time has passed and they have seasoned us into the person we have become. All the best in your new endeavors. I'm sure you will find fulfillment in them even if they turn out to be different from your past ones.
I’ve been off social media for years now, and I remember the feeling when I left. Like I could breathe again. My mind felt free again. I do overdo on youtube. I’m thinking about that one now.
I'm glad you're prioritizing what's important to you. I'm in a similar period of decisions and shifting priorities, and I've been trying to change my habits day-to-day to accommodate my new "goals", of eating healthier, exercising more regularly, focusing on Polish, and integrating my faith into all of these things as well.
Good luck on your journey!
I am happy for you and your wedding preparation, I just got married and the preparation time is so special as every single part of it after it, the wedding itself, the honeymoon and life after. Enjoy every moment. I am happy that you deleted social media, your point of you definetely changes when you stop looking for approval or trying to call everybodies attentation. A burden is taken away from you.
Hi Lindie! Congrats on getting engaged and starting a master's 💖I've actually had similar thoughts regarding social media (especially spending too much time on it) and appreciate your honesty/transparency regarding language learning because I feel like it's not a very linear thing at all - I think it's important to listen to yourself and do what's best! I would be super excited to see anything you post (I LOVE casual daily vlog stuff), but if you ever decide to stop just know that we are supporting you and want you to be happy 💝
All of my favorite content creators seem to hate the business of being content creators. I would definitely watch vlog content from you.
Hi Lindie, just wanted to say your content has always inspired and motivated me on my language learning. I’m in my 30s so perhaps a bit older than most online language learners and I discovered your platforms in 2018. Since that time a lot of creators \ lang community have moved to general tips rather than their own journeys and struggles and I have to admit I’ve tuned out a bit (there is only so many times you need to read the same tips about building a learning schedule) but your content has always felt really fresh because you share your own journey so much and the joy you take in learning shines through. I can totally understand you being a bit burned out after such a long period of being a creator and I would just say that the content I love to see is what brings you joy and how you incorporate learning in general into your life. Take care and thanks for all the thoughtful and helpful content you have shared over the years!
I didn’t do much language learning when I was working on my Master’s degree. I simply did not have the time for it. Initially I also worried if I was going to forget a lot during the 2 year time period, but surprisingly, I was able to pick up a lot once I resumed my studies post-graduation. I repeatedly reminded myself that language learning is a lifelong journey with much needed rests in between! I haven’t quite made the next step in deleting all my social media but I do find that by keeping myself busy with other things such as reading, writing, etc. it decreases my time spent on social media. A lot of recent changes to social media have also made me less inclined to use it…so I’m seeing that as a plus rather than than a bad thing. Wishing you the best in your Masters and other priorities!
"I've said all that there is to say" ... My god, you are THE MOST authentic, honest and humble yet influencial person I know online
Content wise, anything is fine. Just as long as we know you are still alive and living life to the fullest.
I would love to see a stationary tour of your pens, markers, note books, binders etc. I’m not sure tho if anyone else would be interest in such a video or if it’s just me 😊 Thank you as always for your great video^^❤ It’s really brave of you and inspiring how you deleted all of your social media!! I wish you all the best for the future💞
PS: I also truly enjoyed your Reading Log video, maybe you could make another book video and talk about your favourite books or something 📚 :)
You definitely aren’t alone in rethinking life. I think it’s a rather natural and healthy thing to evaluate what is working and what isn’t on a semi regular basis. Lately, I’ve been slightly shifting my learning goals as well to include more of programming and a bit less of language learning. And it’s not that we love language learning any less, but rather a realization that self discovery at any age is VITAL to our mental and physical health. Enjoy! 😊
I'm glad you're doing well. I've also dropped and picked up language learning multiple times.
The most memorable ones were I dropped it after I finished school and then picked it up again a few years later... only to drop it again when my spouse and I had children. I picked it up again about 4 years after that. Now I'm super into language learning again and am doing some with my kids which feels super purposeful. When I had dropped language learning before, I picked up psychology and was really into that.
Maybe do your vlogs in different languages with subtitles in English. I'd love that, doesn't matter the language.
Life goes in shifts. Go where it takes you. I wish you well.
You were the first person I saw sharing her knowledge and strategies to self-study languages, and you were the only one I truly followed throughout your journey on this platform; specially at the time when these new polyglot gurus started emerging. You always showed yourself as a person (fond of languages) and not a kind of super heroine. I am sorry this artificial world affected you so much. I am really happy for your upcoming projects and this new stage in your life. Thank you for always sharing your knowledge and experience, and for this video as a statement of how important mental health is.
Check out my blog post if you want to know more about why I deleted my socials: medium.com/@lindiebotes/im-an-influencer-but-i-deleted-and-deactivated-all-my-social-media-e2c2d9e018e0
Your master's thesis sound amazing!! Your life shift, job, and projects sounds so exciting!!! I would love to see video of your day to day life. You've made a good choice stepping away from social media. Yes, you have been in the language learning space for a long time. It's time for you to do something different that you're more passionate about and brings you joy.. Relieving stress and any type of anxiety is very important. Congrats! on your future marriage. Your plans for your venue sound awesome! It would be nice to see videos of you planning your wedding as well. Looking forward to your future videos. 🙂🙂
This video brought me so much happiness for Lindie. I wish you all the best in life and your endeavours.
Honestly deleting most of my social media last year improved my mental health immensely! I think there’s a lot of stress that comes with it that one doesn’t tend to notice until they’re drowning in it. I’m not really sure what else to say so I’ll end my comment with this:
I hope all of your plans go well! Congratulations on getting engaged!
I just watched the video you posted after this one, I am so happy to hear you are taking steps to take your time back from unhelpful social media and focus on your wants. As a smaller creator, I arrived to a similar path myself. I'd love to see you talk about yourself and design along with languages on your channel. I think there are a lot to explore, especially by someone like you!
I deleted my Facebook well over 6 years ago. I have never once regretted that decision.
I’m in a similar situation with you sort of. I got married last year, stopped using social media (I want to delete it but it’s hard). My focus became new job, moving to a new city, finding a house, married life, it can be a lot.. My primary language focus has been Korean since 2016 but I stopped a lot because I got stuck in the intermediate plateau. I also had lost motivation due to mental illness. It’s crazy though because now I feel like I’ve finally starting getting motivated again and the passion for Korean has reignited. It does feel really good to get back into it!! I think it’s awesome that you’re focusing on yourself and trying to live more presently. You’ve always inspired me! Best wishes 💕
I don't get on Instagram or Twitter too much, I just hope you don't disappear. I have really enjoyed getting to know you on UA-cam. Good luck to you! You have inspired so many of us!
Woo hoo so exciting about your master's degree! I really enjoyed my master's, and I love teaching at the university level, and I hope you're enjoying it, too!
It makes sense that language learning is taking a backseat when you have so many other new things occupying your mind. I'm sure if you give it time the desire to study will reappear. Although it is a bit sad to think about forgetting bits and pieces of the languages, I've also found that my passion for learning languages can be much stronger after a prolonged break.
Hey Lindie!
It doesn't sound like you're stuck in a rut!! You're super busy and making healthy lifestyle choices.
You are very hard on yourself.
Being happy and present in your life is more important than anything and especially more important than social media. You have made such a positive impact on me, in so many ways. Much success in all of your future endeavors. I'll be here and so will so many others!
Social Media are too much consuming so I understand why you did it. It will let you be free, literally xD. By the way, talking about japanese principles, I'm really interested in that topic because there is not content about it (for no-PhD students). I feel grateful if you public content about japanese culture like that, or things like that about other countries.
About language learning, sometimes we need a break but if you still have the motivation, then you do not have to worry about let it go for a period of time. It's only a break to catch it again with more attitude!
If your preocupations are about skill loss, then take it as a support to catch that loss, or as a reinforcement of that language.
The things we do not remember more, are things that later we remember better.
Thank you very much for your effort and congratulations for your wedding!
So happy for you. I've also deleted Twitter years ago and stopped using Instagram altogether. It's just so lifeless in there, even if you're not a content creator it still feels like you're selling yourself sometimes. It's exhausting. Hope you keep posting whatever you want to post without feeling this pressure you talk about. It's not worth it if you don't enjoy it!
Volgs would be really fun to watch as well as “study with me” videos where you take us through a study session in a language you are learning. Those videos are motivational and informative
Thankfully you're still on UA-cam guiding us amateurs onward to language fluency, thanks Lindie
Hello Lindie !!
A bientôt !
I feel like a lot of things with regards to language learning are becoming repetitive, but I think what makes it cool and interesting is how it's presented by each individual because it is a unique experience for everyone! And I can relate to that. When I post videos that aren't related to language learning, I lose people. I really love your videos and all the content you've shared (which is why I continue to support you because you're an amazing human 💗). Whatever you decide to do with regards to content, it will be great. Do what is best for you. Do what makes you feel your most authentic self. Congratulations on everything you are doing in your life (getting married, masters, teaching, doing whats best for YOU) 💛💛💛💛 funnily enough, I just submitted a research paper on Okinawan music!
I think I've noticed a lot of people going through this same situation, where a big shift is happening in their lives (including myself), so I'm getting the feeling that it might be a post-covid thing since people have settled back into everyday life and so the stagnation has made everyone rethink themselves (maybe). However, I do often think about how creators evolve their channels because it seems to be that most people create a channel over one theme, but eventually feel the need to move on and feel restricted to what their channel is typically providing (since it's not so easy for an audience to adapt to the content they didn't subscribe for). I do wonder how this will start to affect channels since youtube is getting to that age where their creators that are over a decade old now want to reformulate their content.
I feel like so that youtube stays a happy place for you you should really just do whatever type of content you want until you find what you love about all this again and find your new style and all, in any case having updates on you is always fun, good luck with everything!! ☺️
Happy to hear from you. When one of my social medias was removed, it gave me a lot of time on my hands so I organized my life quite a bit differently, and it eventually lead me to actually... Language learning.
Drága, Lindie! Te egy csodálatos ember vagy! Sok boldogságot neked és a vőlegényednek! 💝
I think that deleting your socials was a crucial step to really get fully in touch with your present life. I sometimes disappear too from my socials. Regarding your wedding, I still think that 30 people is still a lot jajajajaja, I don't like weddings at all, but congrats. 🙌🏽I won't tell you what to post because this is your space, people who subscribe did it because they like whatever you post, so... 🤌🏽.
I think it'd be cool just to see vlogs about your grad. school experience, graphic design, and just living life. I think the internet (specifically UA-cam and social media platforms) have almost just become repeated things said by different people. This isn't to say that your language learning content isn't amazing and valuable (because it is, you do YOU very well😊). I'm just saying that as a viewer I'd watch chill vlogs (like the Korean vloggers who just put chill music in their videos of doing mundane things) and you just being who God made you to be. Change is ok and such a beautiful process (when it's not excruciatingly painful). The internet wants everyone to stay in their boxes, niches, and just "freeze in time" forever. Videos may be that way, but the people that make them aren't. 🥰
Oh and I don't know if this was something you've already thought of/do; but it'd be awesome if you made cute language learning PDF guides/resources or something that you can sell as passive income. I enjoyed the one video you made where you kind of wrote in a journal your languages and goals for each. I think that kind of thing would be helpful to make a PDF for (and with your experience in graphic design I'm sure you could make them AMAZING...or at least better than I try to make on Canva lol). Just a thought.
I really resonated with rethinking priorities in life and time management. It's been something I've been tugging and wrestling at times, over the past two to three years. I look forward to the video content shift! You have made so many changes and it's wonderful that you'd like to share the journey with us. :) All the best for your next steps forward. The courage to delete social media and look ahead, make choices that matter 5-10 years from now. You're an inspiration
One of my Social Media Marketing classes I think, it was Intro to Digital Media emphasized that, quality over quality is important. Like, it's better to get one or two really good blogs out a month than pump one out everyday.
This is really great news I am happy for you! Finally you are taking your life back!
🙌🙌🙌
Would love to see more design videos! I'm an artist myself so it would be really cool to hear you talk about it.
Congratulations on your engagement and best of luck with the new adventures ahead.
I was never much of a social media person. I've always felt that it affects my mental health too much. There's always so many things going on, which is not good for my anxiety at all. I'm glad that you deleted your social media, and I hope it brings you peace. I've learnt that when I'm not on social media I get to unconsciously do much more inner work, which is great. I think you deserve peace, even if you decide to get back later, I'm sure it'll do wonders for you. Thank you so much for all the amazing content you created over the years, I've been following you for a long time, and you're an inspiration. And to be honest, the only language content creator that I've ever followed, because you're real.
I believe that this shift is normal, we're constantly changing, so do our priorities. I had to take a break from language learning for a few years to focus on my studies as well. Though I never stopped following you hahaha I'm now getting back to it, but I'll do one language at a time, I feel better this way, and it fits my schedule better.
And honestly, I'd see anything that you post! Lifestyle, language, or design related. I not only love all these topics, but I like you as well. I'll watch anything you make, as long as you're enjoying it! I'm very happy for you! Again, thank you so much for everything! Take care! I'll be waiting for your next steps, Lindie!!💙
I'm just happy you've made a new video 😊
I can totally resonate with the part about deleting social media. No twitter, no instragram and no facebook for me, UA-cam yes ;) I'm interested in your future musings even if not related to language learning; it is interesting to learn from your life experience and how to re-assess priorities according to one's own circumstances. All the best for the wedding and the MSc degree!
YAY! I thought we wouldn't see you again when you deleted instagram but I'm happy you're keeping youtube. Congratulations on your masters and engagement
I can totally relate to what you said about social media, I'm taking a break from instagram and fb as well. Happy to hear about your thoughts and life updates , it feels like someone is going through similar things / thoughts as me and it's very comforting. Glad to see how much better you feel😊 good luck with your studies
I'm so glad to see you again, Lindie! 🎉 You're looking super happy and relieved! Hope you stay safe and healthy! May God bless you! ❤
Extremely happy to see you again lindie! Don't go away from UA-cam! 🙏 You are the best 💓
Sometimes taking a step back is what we need to gain some perspective and taking a social media break seems like a good way to do that. Wishing you the best and happy you are keeping UA-cam :)
Best wishes for your studies and marriage! I've enjoyed all of your content and it's helped me grow as a language learner. Thank you for all the time and effort you put into helping the language learning community and the honesty you have always brought.
I totally understand the rut with language learning. I've just not had the time as I've been doing my preliminaries for my degree in September for becoming a nurse, so it obviously involves a lot of science. I was trying to actively be learning Korean and Swedish this year, but I just don't have the time I used to have. One would assume my patient would prefer I know how to put a catheter in their hand more than me speaking another language
Congratulations on the engagement!
I love how you're combining two of your passions, language learning and design.
In my opinion, you can still enjoy languages without actively learning them. Anyways, I'm happy it looks like you're in a good place
😊And welcome back!
Congrats on the engagement! That's wonderful. I would love to still hear about language learning but please please please keep us up on the research you're doing. Sounds so fascinating. I also love the day in the life videos and learning more about South Africa. I can identify with needing a break from languages and I think it's healthy to listen to that feeling. All the best to you!
Super okay with content shifts! Do what you need to for your mental health! If I could give a suggestion, maybe when doing more lifestyle videos you could do them in different languages. That way you can still "cater" to those of us (like me!) who really love language related videos too.
Hey Lindie!
I think that is totaly fine to just put somethings aside to reorganize your life. Language learning is something that I love but I did pause it for a while and that doesn't mean it isn't important. I am looking forward to vlogs and more heart to heart videos! And also...congratulations on the job and master!!
Hi Lindie!
When you said you would stop your influencer content I though we wouldn't see more you, so it's nice to have this videos.
Regarding the language learning taking a backseat in your life I think it's natural to happen. You are quite young and right now you are going through big changes like your wedding. Even if language learning is important for you life is messy and It won't be always a number one priority. Doesn't mean you are less passionate about it or that In the future you won't go back to it.
I enjoy everything you post so I'm glad you're not leaving YT! I always enjoy life vlogs; same with your personal posts on IG. It's sad that you lost followers and got less engagement with those posts, but I think it's just the difference between those who want to connect with you for who you are, including language learning, and those who only want language learning advice. I have had similar experiences with posting original artwork versus fan artwork; I even once had someone tell me "I am a fan of [series name] and if you expect to keep me as a follower, you'd better draw more of this." Rude.
All in all, social media has always been hard for me because I hate the promotion aspect; I just want to post about things I make and things I enjoy and not worry about having to push or market or whatever. But as you said, each is a platform that lets you cross-promote and gives you wider reach. So you've got me thinking... How can I create a successful business with only the basics--the things that are most comfortable and natural for me? (I've been on hiatus from everything but Patreon for...I guess 2 years now.)
Regarding my own language learning, I've been stuck in a pre-intermediate level of Japanese for years. I've been busy with so many "spinning plates," including university, that the only consistent thing I've done is passively consume Japanese content on UA-cam. I mean, it's good, but while I have picked up a few new words that way, it's not doing anything to help me with output. Yet I have no motivation to actually study. So I get what you're talking about.
Congrats on your engagement and new steps! May your new endeavors go smoothly and may you be encouraged and full of joy. Blessings!
I'm proud of you for finally putting yourself first. You and Steve Kaufman are my favorite motivators of language learning as well as how to spend time optimally for new or fairly new learners ofa language or several of them. I hope to follow you on youtube.
I hope you're doing better and will figure things out soon. After those bad things happening to you last year, one could see what it did to you. Stress and sadness can make you age a little. But you look healthier now. Things are changing and so are we. I'd want you to do what you enjoy on this channel. Only the things you enjoy you can do well. Don't burn yourself out. Keep doing what you love. I've found my love for learning languages when I found you, but that doesn't mean you have to keep creating that kind of content. Eventually everything will fall into it's place. Deleting Social Media definitely takes a lot of weight off of one's shoulders. I've done it myself. Make sure to take good care of your mental and physical health! Lots of Love from Europe ❤
The saturation of the language learning sphere is the main reason I don't watch polyglots on UA-cam anymore. I had the same feeling, that there is so much one can say about how to learn a language, and the rest is just wasted time (that can be spent on actually learning the language).
You hit the nail on the head. I feel the same!
This is exactly what I've been thinking about the last days - deleted FB already, I guess Instagram is going to follow soon. I am still not sure about UA-cam, but time will show... Great mindset, totally feeling you, Lindie!! Keep up with the good work! Greetings from Germany-----
I'm so glad you are teaching. You are a wonderful teacher! Best wishes on your wedding and new life! Blessings to you!🙏
I recently left most social media, even tho I did not delete it, and completely moved to Discord and tumblr (the latter I haven't had before). My life with a mortgage and a language school I run for a decade this year, ate away on my language learning almost completely. I don't know if and when I will get back.
That being said, whatever your choices it's always good to see you here sharing your thoughts with us. Please continue :)
I’m in the same position re language learning. I would love to have time to regularly focus on it but I’m about to graduate and after a busy day, studying even more is really not appealing. But I’m glad to see you’re still on here! Your thesis sounds super interesting so I’d be interested to see content on how your studies are going!
I think that, if you're doing a workshop about designing a language learning app, you're not forgetting about language learning, even if you put your own language learning on the back burner.
I watch a channel on Greek language learning. The lady there will go into the real world such as the beach and describe in Greek what she is seeing and giving a tour of holiday destination in Greek. Perhaps you could try this in Japanese in Japan, exploring parks, cafes, restaurants in Japan. Congrats on your engagement!!!!
I've pretty much stopped using social media since January and only go on them rarely just to check on things I still need to touch base on. My headspace has gotten so much better since then. (Just need to get back to working on korean)
I'm glad you're doing well and have so many excited things coming up! Your happiness is more important than anything else!❤
A step back from social media is always a great idea. I think in general, mental health and quality of life can only improve from this. Your thesis sounds amazing! I would love to hear some more insights, once/if you'd be be ready to share.
That's a very healthy way to approach your life and I respect it. I wish you the best moving forward.
Good for you. I think more of us should delete social media because it is most often SUCH a waste of time.
Hi Lindie, your masters project sounds absolutely FASCINATING... I would love to see some videos going into details on this. Best of luck for all your new stuff happening in 2023. Ganbatte! btw I gave up Twitter twice in the last 10 years, and managed not to go back... sounds like it's become much less valuable and more toxic in the last year or so, so I'm glad not to be there.
You look happy about the new changes! So I'm happy for you. Changes are scary but if they make you happy go for it!
People always shit on creates for wanting change, but almost everyone makes big changes throughout their lives. So, enjoy Lindie!♥
So happy for you! getting space from social media + living slower is something I also want to do. I'd love to see design and daily life content! Your masters thesis sounds soo cool and I'd def be interested to hear more about it.
Dear Lindie, I've been your silent follower on different platforms. I'm glad that you're taking steps to rethink your life because this is where I am now. I think it's a natural progression since we're moving into different phases of our lives where some things no longer become priorities. I'm just rekindling my learning journey with Mandarin after I've taken an about 2-year break to focus on my professional life. It feels good to do things that I love and I learn that adapt my life as it goes. For social media, I'm looking forward to creating more content but I've decided to go easy with it too. I strive to create balance and direct more focus on things that really matter to me. Thank you for being real about this. I'm looking forward to watching more videos from you.
Hey Lindie, congrats on deleting social media. It may be worth doing a UA-cam poll to see what kind of content people want to see. I personally subscribed to your channel for language content, but I can tell from the comments lots of people are interested in other things, too!
I started learning language last year, and I put aside my biggest hobby: reading. I'd usually read 8 books every month while it's more about 3/4 now. I was a bit depressed at the beginnig, but at the end it's all about balance every new passion...with life too.
I'm sure you will find your balance, just enjoy the moment: carpe diem.
And we are always here, for whatever content you will want to share. 😁
Congrats Lindie! Other than, UA-cam, I don't go on social media much anymore. Maybe early in the morning to check messages but that's it.
I reluctantly, left this semester. My post nasal drip got bad when the weather got wonky over her after December and I kept getting physically ill. I am not sure if stress is a factor but, I am trying to find out. However, I plan to try school again in May. I am planing on taking a few health courses. I am particularly interested in Developmental Psychology because it touches on life and end of life topics. I was going to take it down the road but it kind of feels like the right time. Social Linguistics, I am still thinking on it. There were a lot of non-health related courses, I was going to take like, Oceanography and Geology but, I might put them on hold until next summer. I kind of want my health stabilized so, I can physically take a class on campus someday soon lol.
Honestly, when, it comes to language learning this has happened many times in the past. I got too busy with school or getting my degree but now, I am sort of making language learning a priority like, taking less courses, un-following daily gaming streamers, and turning notifications for a lot of channels off.
As long as you still incorporate language learning in your channel, I would still be happy.
Excited for your (relatively) offline life! I deleted my socials 3 years ago and haven’t looked back. Think it’s especially cool that you made this move even with how your platform does bring you money. Rooting for you!
Also relate to not feeling language learning sometimes. Think it’s totally fine and the motivation will come back to you eventually. My Japanese study intensity has varied a lot since 2014 but I did just pass the N3 exam in December! Marathon, not a sprint
I think it'll be great to see vlogs/lifestyle content from you ❤.
Just remember to "switch off" I've heard of other UA-camrs who make their whole life into content, and I think that could be stressful too.
Sorry I just write comments while watching the vid. I think everything is about cicles and priorities, and we need to normalize that, we evolve, and that is so beautiful! So, big congrats for the changes and just do your best to be happy and enjoy what you have, instead of focusing in what you were in the past. 🎉🎉🎉 love your vids, and will enjoy watching it whatever the content is that make you feel confortable, I just enjoy your happines and passion through the screen❤
It sounds like you're doing some great things for your life, good for you! I think your Master thesis topics sound fascinating, I don't know if you'd want to make content about that since you're going to already be working on it so much for school, though. Hearing about how all these changes are working for you and anything you've learned from them could be interesting, and helpful, too. Good luck, and enjoy your social media-free life. 😊
I actually stepped away from studying Japanese for a few months after I finished my N3 last December because I felt so done and burned out after it. But I recently felt motivated to pick it up again. The trouble is, I'm now plunging into the deeper and more heavy side of language learning, where you have not just basics to learn, but you learn more advanced phrases and grammar points, many of which can sound the same but give different connotations to a native ear. It'll be a challenge, but I've started easing back into it by journaling every day in Japanese and sharing it with my friend who I have known for 9 years, who is also learning Japanese and plans to take her N3 this year! I'll eventually have to study advanced grammar and vocab as I myself am shooting for N2, so seeing any content from you about Japanese would be great! That being said, I know you are transitioning to more of a vlog channel, which I think is great in itself, too. I look forward to seeing any content from you at all! You have a presence that brightens my day! :D
ALSOOO kudos to you for deleting Instagram. It's really toxic at times! I still follow you on there tho ;p but anyway
I am super excited to hear how you are going with your master's research. It sounds so intimidating to me, but as someone who is vaguely toying with the idea of going for a masters myself, and who is also a graphic designer, I'd love to see your input on that whole field and how it was influenced by Japanese aesthetics!
Good for you for making choices that support your well being.
i would love other type of contents about design or life, but really whatever floats your boat ! your thesis subject sounds so interesting, too. seems like a really cool new chapter for you, and you do a looot of things i'm always wondering how you manage all these hustles but i'm sure you'll find a way to integrate languages in your routine, social media is a big sucker of energy so that's a win already, wishing you the best
thank you Lindie for those years. you brought me to the language community and there I found out that learning multiple languages is fine when everyone in my surroundings told me it's not. I hope things get much better in your life. please stay safe. wish you all the best on your path
