Come to Spifftopia; it's the most fun you'll have in your life!!*
Two sentences that support one another should be combined with a semi-colon, not a comma.
It's a party that never ends, with a host that never dies!
Unless they're immortal then they will die in the park. It is inevitable.
Hotel California but it's a theme park ran by a brit
My dad would do a playthrough of one of the scenarios, with the goal of trying to get as many people in the park as possible. (We didn't know about the no-exit feature, so this was done properly)
Once the scenario was over, he would place down many free balloon stands so that as many people as possible would have balloons. Once that was done, he would systematically delete the pathways in the park, slowly corralling all of the guests together until they end up on a single tile, usually suspended a few layers above the ground. Finally, he would put a single tile of water below the path, and delete the final piece of path, dropping thousands of people to their watery demise.
People with balloons will release them when they drown, so you would get a cloud of thousands of balloons floating away for a minute before they all burst in an ear-shattering "POP".
That somehow reminds me of how I would pick up guests and toss them far, far, far out into the wilderness, and see how long it took their pathing to bring them back to society. Some never did.
This was the most horrific thing I’ve read today. Nice.

What great coasters!
Honestly RCT2 is still one of the best looking videogames out there. No, it's not technically impressive but it has timeless style.
definitely ahead of it's time. RCT ran so Planet Coaster could sprint
Many of these older games' visuals still hold up because the designers/artists put in a lot of painstaking work to make the most of the limited palette and pixels/polygons available to them.
With many modern games on the other hand, it feels like they choose that retro pixel look out of laziness, so they can say "stop whining, we made the game look like that on purpose, because nostalgia, see?". Very little effort is made to optimise the designs to whatever arbitrary limitations they set for themselves, so the end result isn't timeless, it's just ugly-on-purpose.
I want to get off Mr. Bones' Wild Ride.

"Man cannot survive off of just spiral slide alone" -The Spiffing Brit 2020
RCT and RCT2 still hold up. Chris Sawyer is a legend, wrote the game in assembly code basically alone. Frontier made a great entry with RCT3. Atari threw the franchise in a dumpster and set it on fire. Thanks god Frontier came in clutch with Planet Coaster.
Edit: Forgot to also shout out the amazing people behind OpenRCT2, they've also put in so much work to keep the game relevant and bringing it to the modern age. Also Marcel Vos is amazing.

I worked at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Purgatory is such an appropriate name. I was once stopped from leaving the park by a security guard and detained, nearly jumped by 7 other guards, then ultimately was threatened to be told to leave. At which point I laughed at the guard screaming at me, because I was simply trying to walk out the gate the entire time. So this video makes me laugh and is quite accurate.

Spiff: wondering why a exploit is in the game
Me: Wondering how tf someone found out that by placing 4 stacks of 15 layers of a random scenery, placing the worst ride over it and save it to his desktop is even a exploit
By accident. The guy who discovered this stacked themed terrain to try and min-max bonuses, then discovered entirely by accident that the swamp terrain specifically cloned itself if the stack was 15 or greater.

Oh my gosh, I loved the Spiffventures themepark!
It was so aggressively unthreatening and whimsical!
They don't bother with nuanced "requirements" like safety belts or bars, and every ride is riddled with character, what with the rickety support beams - so exciting!
The sleeping arrangements are to die for, as well - so rustic!
I particularly enjoyed the Shark Tank show, where people were selected (at random I'm pretty sure, the lucky buggers) and comically deposited into a large pool of water filled with sharks!
I tell ya, that Spiffing gent sure knows how to draw a crowd!
The best bit of all is that we never have to leave!
I remember when I first discovered that you could place No Entry signs and peeps would actually obey the sign. Unfortunately, those signs don't prevent peeps from leaving in RCT3.
Blocking off the exit doesn't work. You'll notice by the end of the video no people are spawning in and the park rating is at 0. Guests also have a "need" to leave the park after a random amount of time, and the longer it takes them to leave the angrier they will be. Considering this basically caps the amount of people in your park, and most challenges require a park rating of several hundred in addition to guest numbers, the strategy will fail every time.
Unless, of course, you put the no exit sign down close to the finish date so that you can take advantage of the small boost in guests right at the end before the people trying to leave get angry enough to tank the park rating.
Also people that wants to leave does not use the shops, and lowering the entrance fee does not make more people visit. For a big park like this visitors will use as much money as they spawned with.
I was about to say the same thing. Once they decide to leave the park they’re not going to spend any more money or do anything except try to leave so blocking the exit is pointless. When they can’t find the park exit that kills the park rating and then no new people want to come because the park rating is low.
but that doesn't matter, locking innocent families up is fun

I absolutely love the Spifftopia park! It was a very thrilling and enjoying experience, and the security I admit is the best feature of the park!
Bought this game near the release date: still play it to this day.
A timeless classic.
Every couple years I play RCT1 for a few weeks and always have a fantastic time.
My favourite version of this is having one half of the park full of great rides and stuff then having the exits for all those rides point to the other half of the park, the half with the pay-to-pee toilets and terrifying cotton candy creatures and of course, no connecting paths back to the entrances of the rides or in fact the exit to the park.
I'm more partial to Open RCT2 version as it actually runs on my computer without crashing.
I still love the original version. Loved 3 for the ability to "be" on the rollercoaster.
"It's 18 years old, technically this game can go to a pub and buy a pint if it really wanted to."
It will need to after this video. I am positive.
Spiff, loved the video, but you forgot the absolute easiest exploit! The one square hedge maze! Slap down one square of hedge maze, give it an entrance and an exit, and they'll pay almost anything to go through it. For bonus points, have it exit to an unconnected section of park that they can't leave.

I added a pool for them to fall into just for a fun. The game crashed with several hundred peeps splashing around.

This all reminds me of one of the earliest mechanic exploits I ever blundered into, on the game that inspired Chris Sawyer's better version, Bullfrog's Theme Park (sponsored by Midlands Bank in the UK version, seriously) - in the game, guests could play various arcade/stall games, but the only prize they ever got was cold hard cash (400, 800, 1200, 1600, 2000) - and you could set the price per play and the probability. So you'd hike the price up to maximum (998 per game), hike the probability up to maximum (100%), then throw the prize down to minimum (400) - as a result, everyone won, everyone was happy, and you'd snag a cool 598 off of everyone who played.
I'd like to see Spiff get their hands on Two Point Hospital (since they already did Two Point Campus recently) and let run loose on its systems and mechanics. I'd also like to see Spiff tackle some re-visitation on games that have been patched (like The Outer Worlds).

_"RT Game, you're trapped in Purgatory!"_
Also known as any time he records with Call Me Kevin.
I'm pretty sure the version of RCT I grew up with didn't have hoity-toity mind control signs. However, the oldschool way to trap people is to have the exit of one ride drop onto a section of path that isn't connected to the area the guest dropped in from. So long as you don't create a path to the exit guests will obliviously leave the ride and drop into whatever demented trap you've sprung for them, be it a watery grave, an endless queue that starts right at the exit of the ride it leads to or the actual prison-park itself.
Also you can make annoying guests disappear from the game without it counting as a death and ruining the park rating with this simple trick: Create a one-tile pillar of terrain. Put the problem guest(s) on the pillar and then frantically drag the pillar up and down with the dig tool until your victims fall through the surface of the terrain. Once this happens you can see them slowly descend through the ground until they reach the bottom of the map and vanish without a trace. An expensive but satisfying way to get rid of guests who've outlived their purpose.
Your assessment of Chris Sawyer and his games is on point.

H a d no idea so many loop holes. Wanting to replay now.
Seeing the non-optimized paths to the rides is driving me up a wall.
Also, a helpful tip -- if you make entering the park free, you can set the price of the rides to equal their entertainment value. You'll get more customers and a more consistent stream of revenue. So there's a way to optimize this. Also-Also, if you build trash cans and lamp posts while building your paths, you can speedrun your way to the Cleanest Park Award.
EDIT: I did not wait until the end of the video before posting this. Cursed Swamp Speedrun is superior speedrun, clearly.
Or you make the ride free, have money of admission, the kick the guest out with the maze exploit.
@@matsv201 These are very exploitable games, yes...
You can also make all the food in the park free, then make the bathrooms cost money. Put bathrooms next to the exits, and put food and drink stands next to the entrances, so guests will engorge themselves before hopping on a ride and pay a fortune to expel everything when they get off of it.
Fun fact: Chris Sawyer wrote TTD, RCT 1, & RCT 2 in assembly.
I also saw that video in my algorithm
The engine gave that away
but WHY
Just a correction to what Spiff said: OpenRCT2 legally requires you to own RCT2. It's not a free version of the game - it's nothing like OpenTTD - but more an open source expandalone, and because it contains some reverse engineered parts of the original game you must own the game or you can't legally use the open source remake because the developers don't have the rights to distribute the game code (only Atari can do that). But RCT2 is dirt cheap to buy on GOG, so there's no excuse for not buying it.
Also Parkitect is an attempt at making a modern version of RCT2, with proper 3D graphics, all the same features, and everything we always wished RCT2 could do. Highly recommended if you don't jam with the 2D pre-rendered 3D pixel graphics

I'm also interested, so please tell us the results.
Likely, but the results intrigue us.
The police skins look like uniforms that Municipal police of Milan used to wear in the past, they used to call them "ghisa" wich means cast iron because of their helmets, from what i can see there are some convertible-500 spinning, that being said i legitimately think devs where high on something 😂
i found a glorious video of the italian police force riding motorcycles in formation.
Aaahh I love these games. So fun to watch you abuse my childhood, and to be honest I come back to these games once in a while
9:35 Ah yeah, this brings the nostalgia back! I actually like the oldschool graphics, adds to the early 2000's charm. Plus all the funny and terrifying decorations and stalls, brilliant!
"Just like real purgatory, it costs about 45 pounds to enter." That's hilarious!
"I want to go on something more thrilling..."
Spiff - Builds a TWIST
Me - _Actually_ facepalms.
These games still stand up so well. Played number 1 last year and it was wonderful nostalgia. Only thing is reaching the goal is anticlimactic. Still, it's so fun!
I so utterly love the Theme Park you created mister Spiff, it is the best one I have ever been to or seen, all hail Spifftopia
