As per the conditions of the document, the country's fleet was to be cut down to a minimum, and serious restrictions on the construction of new capital ships in terms of their number, water displacement, and main battery caliber were to be imposed. In the 1920s-30s, German shipbuilders were charged with a challenging task-designing an all-in-one warship that, while conforming to the strict limitations of the Treaty, would still easily be able to disengage from battleships and confidently sink any existing heavy cruisers in battle. The task was brilliantly accomplished, and in 1933, the resulting Panzerschiff (armored ship) Deutchland was commissioned into the Reichsmarine. The ship had the armament of a battleship, but the speed of a cruiser. If you wanna make the Graf Spee actually good and historically accurate, reduce the dispersion of the guns (the accuracy she showed in the battle of River Plate left a big impression on the british) and give her the ability to use spotter plane (the graf spee's spotter plane was its primary source of intel on merchant ships while doing commerce raiding)
The Graf Spee was scuttled because of clever disinformation by the British that they had assembled a small fleet outside the harbor. This was a complete fabrication, but the Germans thought that they would face hopeless odds, and therefore scuttled. Another interesting fact following this is that the British got permission from Chile to examine the hulk because they suspected that the Graf Spee had radar - so accurate had been her gunfire. True enough, they found the radar and were able to examine it. This was contrary to the rules of "neutrality".
Well, one Part that, but more importantly one lucky shell shot her fuel sotrage, making all fuel but 72(?) hours of fuel useless, so she was stuck there
GhostArmy1 Also the water-processing unit was damaged and would’ve had to be repaired. You wouldn’t get far without sufficient drinking water. Of course the Graf Spee was also running low on ammunition and couldn’t afford to fight a large battle.
I miss the evidence of German battleships or some are battle cruisers (some people call them that for example the popular Bismarck) having such bad awful dispersion. I mean it's ok to balance German bb's like that because they WERE very good brawler but now I feel like the American bb's are doing a better job at that. I don't get the point of this dispersion.
Graf Spee an interesting ship on paper… What I like the most in this video is “Secondaries are great against destroyer” I understand the 4km range on these but what I don’t understand is the accuracy. Those secondaries still miss against a Colorado at 2km so how am I supposed to hit a destroyer? Even the secondaries of Bismarck cannot hit anything and it’s a “secondary battleships”. I know captain skills and upgrade but why do I have to use 14 captain skills point to have something that is a little bit effective. I do not remember the need of 14-point captain to enjoy other types of ships. I understand to miss at 10km but at 2km ??? even without a captain the crew is not supposed to be blind. So, replace this line by “secondaries are just here to decorate the ship” But still a good video, it’s good to see that there are still real ship in this game!

WHAT!!! Some damage!!! She won hands down, and then she showed mercy to the helpless HMS EXETER who was basically a burning wreck and could have been finished off.
@@igoryst3049 The fuel purification plant was irreparable, which left Graf Spee with around 24 hours of usable fuel. Furthermore, she had used up most of her ammunition stocks, and had found that, contrary to the belief of her designers, her armour was not capable of protecting her from 8 inch shellfire. Thus, instead of being immune to anything except three British & two French battle cruisers, the German armoured cruisers were suddenly revealed as vulnerable to any British or French heavy cruiser as well. Langsdorff's mistakes were, firstly, not turning away as soon as Harwood's squadron was detected, apparently because he mis-identified it as a light cruiser and two destroyers and believed that they might have been screening a convoy, and, secondly, not sinking Exeter. Had he done so, Harwood would have had to have decided whether to continue the action, and abandon Exeter's survivors, or to pick up survivors and discontinue the action. Posts about 'mercy' are nonsensical. It was not the job of the captain of a warship in wartime to be 'merciful' to enemy warships, but to work his own ship to the best advantage. Langsdorff's uncertain handling of his ship in an action in which it should have been overwhelmingly superior hardly shows him to have been up to his job.
5:07 Admiral Graf Spee: heya Nagato, Ur gonna get Hooded. Nagato: wait Hooded? Wasn't that the battle of the--- NOOOOO 5:10. Admiral Graf Spee: I'm a better Bismarck!
Once the captain of cruiser Graff Spee, went and sunk his own ship in the bay, rumours he was surrounded, turned out unfounded, and he blew out his brains the next day!
Almost played 200 game with Spee, and ohboy i had fun, before C- rework, i managed to sink some ships with my secondarys. now range is 7.5 km, and i like it. i want to say, that althought we have Siegfried and Ägir, followers of "armored ships" there was also this other ship plans called; D-class cruisers. Larger model of Deutchland-class ships. Only one keel was layed down, but five months later it got replased by Scharnhorst-class ships. Man now i want to see D-class cruiser in the Game too, it Could be perfect on tier VIII.
The waters she sunk in are only like 30 feet deep at most I think. When she initially sunk her superstructure and 28cm guns were still on the surface until she rolled over on her side. Nowadays she is actually in great condition with most of the ship still intact. Just some superstructure snapped off and a chunk of stern missing along with not as much rust as you would expect. Since she isn't a war grave, plans to raise the ship have been on the surface for a while, they have already raised a fire director for I believe the 28cm guns and the iron eagle that was on her stern.
Graf Spee was an excellent raider, in part because they fooled many Merchants by cleverly using camouflage and erecting dummy structures to appear as an Allied ship. Not to mention the incredible accuracy of the main guns at the Battle of River Plate. I expected great concealment and accurate guns, but the game doesn't reflect this. Regardless, it's still my favorite ship.
Pocket Battleships such as Graf Spee are perhaps the only types of Battleships that could be modernised, financially maintained and used with ease in the modern era if one would consider to do so.
"Pocket battleship" was a propaganda-driven term invented by the British, not descriptive at all of the Deutschland class. The Germans officially classified the class as "heavy cruisers."
Said they were on the wrong side of the war, said war It's a cruel useless carnage, the Graf Spee is one of my favorite warships: an armored knight roaming the seas, led by a chivalrous commander. Unfortunately they usually end after a epic, rageous and suicidal last stand, like Bismarck and Yamato. As Admiral Fraser put it: "Gentlemen, the battle against the Scharnhorst has ended in victory for us. I hope that any of you who are ever called upon to lead a ship into action against an opponent many times superior, will command your ship as gallantly as the Scharnhorst was commanded today."
Let me tell you something WG. If you want to make the Graff Spee playable against tier 8s buff its speed slightly and at least give it 27 mm bow because any ship can currently overmatch it. Also buff the accuracy bof main batteries and the maybe give it preferential tier 8 match up because that would be too OP for tier 6 matches.
Wait!! İf the Submarines come to the Game Thats mean we have a Underwater Scenery as well alongside the Surface One. But thats mean my computer will Set on Fire when i Try to Play the Game. Any Solutions about That?
And I’m talking to wargaming on this difficult problem and please note that this is not the only one you guys put as premiums when they should be put into their respective tier trees as regular ships with maybe an actual price to buy them for
I have it.. main guns rarely hit over 1800 damage. Turing sucks, secondaries range suck, catches on fire to easy. Reload is to long.. if I could scuttle it and get my gold back I would..
Disappointed that it building this seems to require completing missions that have very specific criteria such as must be a specific class from a specific nation - I can't complete missions because the destroyers that I own aren't Russian or British ... Seems a ridiculous attempt to force people to buy more ships
I have the ship and is not bad, but you have to read the battle before get in the action. The torps are good and the main torrets do good damage if you aim is OK. What i do is protect the warships and attack the same ships they attack.
There WAS a way. Way back in the day like 5 years ago i got her without paying a dime. Dont remember how either she just appeared in my port one day & been having a blast ever since. IDK how much actual $ they want for her but honestly shes not very good . I love it but wouldnt pay more than $15 for her. Good Luck Captain!
The Term "Pocket Battleship" was not official but it releated to the fact that the 28cm Battery was.much closer to Battleship armaments than ordinary cruiser guns of 15cm or 20cm.
Grinding this might be a problem as I am just a casual player. Using a non-premium T6 (Nurnberg) as I don't have any high-tier premiums so even Camo'd and sigged up, it's still a chore, compared to PT server
The Admiral Graf Spee is not a cruiser, she is a Pocket Battleship. It's not her nickname, it's her type. This new type of Battleships was created against the Treaty of Versailles. They wanted a powerful Battleship but in the limit of the Treaty. That's why they created the new type of the Battleships. Deutschland class and P class was specially design for that goal, but after Hitler become leader of Germany their goal was changed into raider.
If you knew anything about the Deutschland class ships you'd know that they actually are cruisers. Officially classified as Panzerschiff and later changed to Heavy Cruiser. The term Pocket Battleship was created by the British due to their small size but battleship-like artillery. The Admiral Graf Spee is officially a Heavy Cruiser and not a pocket Battleship. please do some research before you talk lmao
@@Risktaker_ They were Panzershiffe, it was their offical classification, which means armored ship. But they still were not cruisers, just because most pepole claime them to be. They were built to fill the role of a battleship, which was forbiden for the Reichsmarine to build after the Treaty of Versailles. They were cruiser sized battleships. The germans never called them Heavy Cruisers or Schwerer Kreuzer. They were classified as Panzershiffe not as cruisers. So you should not base everything on Wikipedia. Since Wikipedia also claime the 5 different H battleships as 1 single class. (There were the H-39, H-41, H-42, H-43 and H-44)
@@Guderian218 how come you assume I based that statement on 1 Wikipedia search of the Deutschland class. The Deutschland class is my favorite ship class ever made. They were classified as Panzerschiffe at the start but the classification was changed to Heavy Cruiser later on. Still doesn't matter if you want to call them Panzerschiff, pocket Battleship or heavy cruiser they were just cruisers with artillery not usually found on "normal" cruisers with Admiral Graf Spee being sent to raid in the southern Atlantic (I'm not sure what the other 2 ships of the class did as Graf Spee is my favorite pf the three)
@@Guderian218 they were also not officially classified as pocket Battleships by the Germans, that was still something the British came up with so if you want to insist that they weren't cruisers at least say they were Panzerschiffe as that is the official classification
What is the point creating accurate models in the game if you don't use their real life bullit characteristics? And yes I know it's a game, but still....

WHAT!!! Some damage!!! She won hands down, and then she showed mercy to the helpless HMS EXETER who was basically a burning wreck and could have been finished off.
WorshipinIdols Graf Spee lost it’s fuel purification plant and had to retreat to repair it
@@igoryst3049 oh really!! Wow!! Thank you real took me to for a ride
What is "Historically accurate" in this game?
The ship models, for the most part.
Aircraft carriers being op
Type O cruiser is still missing some Armor in the nose, so i don't think wE can say "HiStOrICaLlY AcCuRaTe"
@@Nickname-hier-einfuegen What ship models? A lot of ships in WOWS never exixted nor designed even on blueprints
@@argonaut1462 Let's see next German CVs totally invented by WG.
Once the captain of cruiser Graff Spee,
went and sunk his own ship in the bay,
rumours he was surrounded,
turned out unfounded,
and he blew out his brains the next day!
Graf*
Almost played 200 game with Spee, and ohboy i had fun, before C- rework, i managed to sink some ships with my secondarys. now range is 7.5 km, and i like it.
i want to say, that althought we have Siegfried and Ägir, followers of "armored ships" there was also this other ship plans called; D-class cruisers. Larger model of Deutchland-class ships. Only one keel was layed down, but five months later it got replased by Scharnhorst-class ships. Man now i want to see D-class cruiser in the Game too, it Could be perfect on tier VIII.
Well done with the details wg,
Great job as always WG. Keep doing these dry dock episodes
original Armada + Dry Dock I love this style of Dry Dock videos
If I already have a Graf Spee, do I still get the new camouflage?
I've always believed the Graf Spee was more of a battle cruiser. Is any of that ship still in the waters of Montevideo?
The waters she sunk in are only like 30 feet deep at most I think. When she initially sunk her superstructure and 28cm guns were still on the surface until she rolled over on her side. Nowadays she is actually in great condition with most of the ship still intact. Just some superstructure snapped off and a chunk of stern missing along with not as much rust as you would expect. Since she isn't a war grave, plans to raise the ship have been on the surface for a while, they have already raised a fire director for I believe the 28cm guns and the iron eagle that was on her stern.
I can't help seeeing this over and over...
Das waren echte Helden.!!!!!
This video is very well made, i love it
Best episode of dry dock so far and finaly a good video about a german ship
0:37 epic soundtrack
When does she come back?
Graf Spee was an excellent raider, in part because they fooled many Merchants by cleverly using camouflage and erecting dummy structures to appear as an Allied ship.
Not to mention the incredible accuracy of the main guns at the Battle of River Plate.
I expected great concealment and accurate guns, but the game doesn't reflect this. Regardless, it's still my favorite ship.
I Unlocked the Graf Spee today in the Dockyard
How much did u pay?
I bought the Bonus for 8000 dublons and i play four days
When it was the only pocket BB with cruiser tag on it not until balans soviet paper cruisers came along
Also, Ostheer flag on graf spee is cool
Definitely my second favorite ship after my Tirpitz
Aye another Tirpitz user
The music at the first half of this video should be in the game.
Pocket Battleships such as Graf Spee are perhaps the only types of Battleships that could be modernised, financially maintained and used with ease in the modern era if one would consider to do so.
Aren’t there parts of this ship that were raised and put on display? I think the rangefinder was raised from the wreck
lol what do the ships in this game do 100mph or somthing>?!?!? is it sped up?
I liked this video, I would have bought the spee sooner or later, but now I can get it fir free, sounds good to me
Commander, is it okay to hug you with this hand?
The fire control optics seem especially prominant on this ship. Where they special in some why?
It was the top of it's class, so yea, they was especial.
Made by some random guy named Zeiss, so... 😂
Can we Get a HMS Hood in a next Dry Dock pretty please ?
Whats the background track called please ?
He said it! "Heavy cruiser"! How dare they :D
i mean it wa sjust chunkier than usual
"Pocket battleship" was a propaganda-driven term invented by the British, not descriptive at all of the Deutschland class. The Germans officially classified the class as "heavy cruisers."
Thank you.
Graf Spee is one of my favorite ships.
Geez, just gonna do this and not credit the music? The second song when going over Graf Spee’s model was so good!
I wanna hear it standalone ;-;
Hate to say but I am glad I got her the first release from limited time mission chain few years ago which is less grindy ....
The historical context section was way too inaccurate and too short, might as well have left it out if you're going to do it this way.
As Admiral Fraser put it:
"Gentlemen, the battle against the Scharnhorst has ended in victory for us.
Incredible this game is very realistic but beautiful.
Can you please make a dry dock episode for Scharnhorst
Or Gneisenau
Wait!! İf the Submarines come to the Game Thats mean we have a Underwater Scenery as well alongside the Surface One. But thats mean my computer will Set on Fire when i Try to Play the Game. Any Solutions about That?
You got us in the first half not gonna lie.
F in the chat
Use Damage Control Party :P
well it didn't affect the performance so far, so I guess it's not that bad.
"underwater scenery" it's mostly just lumps of rock you can't even see
I some what agree with the intro, but why do you leave out some armor that the ships had?
Nice one
And I’m talking to wargaming on this difficult problem and please note that this is not the only one you guys put as premiums when they should be put into their respective tier trees as regular ships with maybe an actual price to buy them for
The only reason why i know some of the mostly unknown ships is because of a mixture of anime and wikipedia
Its like an Armada & Naval Legends video
Graf Spees Dry Dock has less screentime
Youre killing us, wargaming
lel, people kept playing it
Do we just complete the dry dock missions to build the ships which will take forever
Can you put in the game the italian battleship please
they are comeing soon just make do with roma and gulio if u have her
She is clearly not a frontliner figher, but excels in the support role or as second line cruiser. Those guns, got my first Kraken in her XD
where do i buy it???
historically accurate my bloody ass
I have it.. main guns rarely hit over 1800 damage. Turing sucks, secondaries range suck, catches on fire to easy. Reload is to long.. if I could scuttle it and get my gold back I would..
Love it!
How long Can i build the Odin and the Graf Spee?
1 and half months
47 days remain
The days remaining is shown right on the mission page!
is was said to be at least 12000 ton which violate the treaty of versailles
16,000 tonnes fully equipped.
Disappointed that it building this seems to require completing missions that have very specific criteria such as must be a specific class from a specific nation - I can't complete missions because the destroyers that I own aren't Russian or British ... Seems a ridiculous attempt to force people to buy more ships
There are more than enough other mission options that you absolutely do not NEED to complete that specific task.
I have the ship and is not bad, but you have to read the battle before get in the action. The torps are good and the main torrets do good damage if you aim is OK. What i do is protect the warships and attack the same ships they attack.
Question: is there any way to obtain the ship WITHOUT spending actual money ?.
@@Rob.DB. i recall there was a mission/campaign/whatever to get her, its been a while
how do i make it look like the secondaries are turning
There is an option in the graphics setting called "animate small objects" but I think it only works on high graphic settings
So six 11-inch guns was an armament "common for battleships of that time"? Which contemporary battleships possessed such armament?
The Term "Pocket Battleship" was not official but it releated to the fact that the 28cm Battery was.much closer to Battleship armaments than ordinary cruiser guns of 15cm or 20cm.
Grinding this might be a problem as I am just a casual player. Using a non-premium T6 (Nurnberg) as I don't have any high-tier premiums so even Camo'd and sigged up, it's still a chore, compared to PT server
You have 2 months and only have to reach stage 10.
It's always a shore compared to the P.T. server
@@Risktaker_honestly, they're nothing less than heavy cruisers
I need this ship, please make her return
Ah yes my favorite ship in both wows and azur lane
Have she :)) its a good ship in fair hands
Great vid Warships team, although I wish you didn't just gloss over Graf Spee's performance against those British cruisers by saying "some damage".
What is the point creating accurate models in the game if you don't use their real life bullit characteristics? And yes I know it's a game, but still....
Please add the USS Arizona the ship that sunk during the battle of Pearl Harbor
it already exists ingame
WG should pay players to play this ship...
Hey you missed why she was scuttled, because we tricked them into it haha.
