Honestly if Andrei Tarkovsky did a Soviet version of Kraven's Last Hunt id watch it. He never would, but it was always my dream for him to do his version of that comic. J.M. Dematteis wrote him the best, and its the most iconic version of the character and I really feel like someone with an ability to convey character's thoughts and feelings without doing directly, Tarkovsky could tbh.
Now, what if Calypso had been a Wakandan War Dog in. Neighboring country who fell in love with a young Kraven? Kraven is nearly killed doing whatever, and left in a near-death coma. Calypso returns to a pre-Movie Wakanda and *steals* a heart-shaped herb and uses if to revive Kraven. This provides him with his powers and a trip to visit his ancestors, a long line of great hunters and imperialist conquerors who admonish him for being unworthy of their legacy and drive him to seek out and hunt the most dangerous creatures, human and animal, in the world. Boom. Kraven is born.
The tagline of this movie is "villains aren't born they're made." But Kraven isn't a bad guy, at least he's not more of a bad guy than the punisher, They shoehorned that "you're just like dad" line in as a half assed attempt to address the fact that he literally isn't
They are making a mistake by introducing these characters with solo films (Madame Web, Morbius, Kraven the Hunter, Venom). In the early MCU, new characters were introduced by having them meet characters we were familiar with (black widow in iron man 2, scarlet witch in age of ultron, black panther in civil war). Having the movies connected that way gives us narrative reasons to care, especially if we already like the characters.

Possibly his first time going Goblin. It would have to be good though, and y'know, use things from the comics. Like a story about Kraven's childhood alongside Dmitri in the Russian Aristocracy, fleeing the Revolution and reinventing himself as Big Game Hunter, meeting equally morally dubious Calypso, gaining agelessness and powers, reuniting with Chameleon, becoming villains etc. The concept of this guy who was born with everything trying then losing it and then spending the rest of his overly-long life trying to prove himself is interesting. But instead you get a kind of a stock story about an anti-hero rebelling against his tyrrinical father.
Ever since the release of Morbius, one thing I always theorized is that the success of the first Venom movie gave Sony the wrong idea, and that they think we'd want to see more of these Spider-Man villain movies without Spider-Man in them, but that wasn't the case. While Venom does work best in a story with Spider-Man, he has been shown to work in his own stories too, so that, along with Tom Hardy's Venom being a much better representation of the character than Topher Grace's version is why the first Venom was successful, whereas characters like Kraven or Morbius just simply don't work without Spider-Man being involved. With the recent stuff coming out about Sony's decision making with these movies, it seems my initial assumptions ended up being true
Incredible how Sony couldn't figure that out. They were gaslit by the success of Venom, but anyone could've told them that was because he was popular enough to carry an audience.
How does one company manage to flop so many times with such solid characters? Like you had all the pieces to make a competitor to Disney but managed to make them look so much better than you
This was a missed opportunity to not use Kraven to fight the MCU Spider-Man that will be one of Peter’s Greatest Fights of Survival, instead we got another spinoff nobody ask and Theaters are making the smart choice and it kills this Abomination of a Universe, sadly for now, I feel like I might have been too harsh on Spider-Man 2, the Game has Flaws but Kraven was one of its Redeeming Qualities because the Thing about Imnsoniac Kraven is that he’s the most Accurate and Darkest Version of the Character, he rather died by a even powerful enemy than a Human Weakness such as Cancer or even his Family which he had Killed by the Way, his Wife and even his Children, while it’s unclear if one of them survived, one thing is clear, Kraven lives in the Hunt and enjoys being a Predator, he’s literally the Embodiment of Savagery and Animalistic with Zero Human Qualities, Peter is the Man while Kraven is a Monster.
I kinda had hope for this one, not that I expected it to be good. but it could have been delicious schlock at least. A director with a decent track record and ATJ gave me some slight hope.
The thing that baffles me is this is the same director who did Margin Call, All is Lost, A Most Violent Year, and Triple Frontier. J.C. Chandor is no slotch of a filmmaker, he's incredible, but this movie definitely shows when it comes to cooperate/mass appeal movie making, the filmmakers voice and talents are extremely way below everything and the studio like Sony, is always in control from start to finish. Unless a miracle of a good movie is made, that's more coincidental, or everyone being on the same page to make a quality movie, bad movies like these are prone to occur
I think whats really impressive is that they really landed a proper good movie Like yes, these movies are flawed from their initial concept of a spiderverse with out spiderman But they dont havta be bad, the second suicide movie was good Joker 1 was pretty good Its doable And yet, somehow after all these tries the best they could do was Venom….
It'll never cease to amaze me that Sony and other movie producer/studio execs take the following position ... "Yeah, we've got this character from an established comic book with the defined character, background, motivations, and stories ... Let's throw most of that out, do our own thing, because we can do it better." It's legit never worked ... and yet they keep doing it.
Other than a fourth MCU Spider-Man movie, the only other projects Sony has planned out is Beyond the Spider-Verse (though it's still unknown when it'll be released) and an 8-episode live action series called Spider-Noir, it's set to star Nicolas Cage as Spider-Man Noir with Lord & Miller acting as executive producers. Putting those two projects aside, it's now never been more clear that Sony should just cut their losses and give Marvel Studios the full rights to Spider-Man.
Where was the scene in the trailers where he’s holding the torch in his Kraven suit. I sat through this mid movie just for that and didn’t even get it. WTF

Was waiting for this video Sony managed to make not one not two but 3 awful superhero movies this year
If Spider-Man was in this movie, then the movie would've been more interesting.
More people will watch this video than go to the movie theater to see Kraven.
Current events have shown us that the US market is whetted for a movie about a guy who hunts people, and they still managed to mess this up.
Based on Sony’s superhero movie track record, I knew this movie would be bad.
Kraven the Hunter-Gatherer
Gonna need a fan supercut montage of all the something-to-do-with-spider-man-i-think movies w rosy filters backed by Maroon 5’s Memories
Thanks for the videos
This is literally dc origen for catman. Sony took the wrong character
I think whats really impressive is that they really landed a proper good movie
Like yes, these movies are flawed from their initial concept of a spiderverse with out spiderman
But they dont havta be bad, the second suicide movie was good
Joker 1 was pretty good
Its doable
And yet, somehow after all these tries the best they could do was Venom….
The best so.o villain spinoff to come out this year was The Penguin series
It'll never cease to amaze me that Sony and other movie producer/studio execs take the following position ... "Yeah, we've got this character from an established comic book with the defined character, background, motivations, and stories ... Let's throw most of that out, do our own thing, because we can do it better."
It's legit never worked ... and yet they keep doing it.
The fact they thought it was a good idea is when it all went wrong.
Major respect for Sony. They could've been using Spiderman this entire time, but chose to make bad movies outta love for the game.
WTF
6:30 Mandalore covers these plots in all the Cabela’s games!
