I never tire of watching these interview videos. There is such a sweetness to him. He is a wonderful storyteller, of course he’s VERY funny...but there’s an underlying sweetness, shyness, to his demeanor, his voice. When she asks him if he knows he’s seducing every woman in the theatre when he performs, his body language, and his reply speak volumes...so unassuming, so humble!
@ Ms Alina, I couldn't agree more. I only wish I'd had the chance to see him as I was only about to turn 18, just after they opened on Broadway, in March 1988. I always think Christine must've been about that age and even though I've read the book, I can't remember if Leroux mentions that. But anyway. Michael was IN HIS PRIME when Andrew cast him, and thinking about how I missed it and since I lived in Florida and had NO way to get to NYC. I'd have sold my car if I thought it would've helped. I weep knowing I missed it because yes, as this lady says to him "Are you aware that you're seducing every woman in the theater?" Well, he to me at a distance. In high school chorus, the soundtrack was new to us at that time and we were absolutely in love with the music and despite being a true Alto, my voice does have quite a range and the teacher wanted to coax it out & train it up and coz of th difficulty of Andrew's music, I was literally being "seduced" by Michael and I'd not even seen a photo of him yet. Only the peaks n valleys n tones of his voice as I sang Christine at every practice. I tell ya, thought I was losing my mind. And to this day, I credit Erik, thru Michael for helping me understand what a woman was supposed to feel and I believe it set my standards rather high. I'm still in-love with him. Sorry I rambled on, but I've never told anyone this before and I get teary eyed just thinking abt it all now (I'm 50, all that happened from '86-'88) and still listen to it MANY times per week. So yes, I quite agree. You can see what kind of man he really is and I think I've watched every interview now, and then just now as I've only seen THIS interview for the first time today, knowing he can also inhabit the character so completely, drives me "crazy." One year for Halloween, even made myself a Lady Phantom. 😁 To this day, I adore them both: Erik yes, but Michael most of all. 😍💘💋💋💋 Stay safe my fellow Michael Crawford Phan. PS: UA-cam has a free copy of Barnum, the show he did right before POTO. Brought tears to my eyes,( and SO handsome n athletic). Well, in case you didn't already know. 🖤
@@lLadyAsznethI fell in love with the character of Erik and Michael Crawford when I was seven years old and I still can’t help but respect him. When I met my husband, his demeanor and gentleness is like Michael’s. :) I owe Michael so much and I would love to perform and/or at least, sing with him. He inspires me to do better when I sing and perform.
I could literally listen to MC talk about The Phantom for hours on end, my god does he have that character down to a T. Jesus he just makes me swoon with how he describes him.
omg what i would give if ALW would release the video he has of Michael and Sarah in POTO. he has the entire show but never released it. :( the money he would make as i was too young then to ever get a chance to see Michael as Phantom.
See now THANK YOU for saying that! I've been wishing ALW would release a video of just one of their performances together from IN the show, and not like that shortened version of their first scene together for the Tony Awards. That just wasn't enough I saw a grainy video from Broadway but it just wasn't crisp, and it was too dark, I mean, you could tell the person was hiding their video camera trying to illegally record it. But yes, Dearest Andrew, who was a total FOX as a young man, with that luscious LONG hair he had for awhile. But no Michael.
@@imisstoronto3121 - I know about his long standing relationship with the chef lady but in an interview I saw not long before my comment HERE... He said the words 'My wife... ". Now, no one followed up with " Are you legally married or is this a common-law arrangement?". Whichever, in HIS mind, he has indeed remarried even though this may not be common knowledge. From his own lips.
Oh gosh, the man was sexy on legs quite literally, but one could also tell just what a kind and genuine person he really is, from these interviews. How lucky are the women fortunate enough to have been close to him, and Sarah B? Holy MOLY! 😍💘💘💋💋💋 Love you SO much Michael!
