A year after I took early retirement I decided to move to Mexico. I was a severely burned out corporate lawyer suffering several physical symptoms from the off-the-charts level of stress I endured during the last 10 years of my career. I arrived here with 11+ prescriptions and had been told that my chronic migraine headaches were incurable and could only be controlled. 14+ years later I am a permanent resident of Mexico, take none of those medications and have no migraine headaches. I'm from Texas so Mexico is next door. Although I have lived in 5 countries and have traveled much of the world, I first visited Mexico at age 9 and have been coming here my entire life. I feel at home here. Because of the fascinating indigenous groups, culture, regional and diversified cuisine and incredible history, I find that other Latin American countries pale in comparison. But expat life is not for everyone. If you are adverse to learning at least some Spanish and have difficulty adapting to other cultures, do not move abroad. For me moving to Mexico has been a life saver. I need no medications today. I no longer have migraine headaches. I chose Puerto Vallarta because I am a coastal person. For half of each year the weather is perfect and requires no a/c. The other half, rainy season, is mostly hot & humid but not much more than SE Texas from where I come. In fact, due to climate change Puerto Vallarta is less hot in the summer than in Texas now. But if you can't take the heat, there are plenty of fascinating safe cities in the interior of Mexico in the mountains where it remains pleasant the entire year. Check out Morelia, Guanajuato City, Cuernavaca and Patzcuaro --- just to name a few. My values have changed since I moved here. After observing how much happier people seem to be in general in Mexico even though most of them have so much less than people in the US, I am now turned off when I return to the US and see how extremely materialistic most people are. I remain proud of my country and my state, but Mexico has given me something I never found in the US: PEACE OF MIND!!! There are some dangerous places you need to avoid, but we have places like that in the US too, not to mention the mass killings in US schools, shopping malls, etc. Do not move to Mexico because you think it will be cheaper. Yes, you can find communities in the interior of Mexico where real estate prices and rents are considerably lower, but they may not be desirable for you. I always tell people labor in Mexico is cheap, but "things" mostly cost more, especially anything imported. For example, electronics usually cost considerably more than in the US except for electronics made in Mexico under Mexican brands (which are getting better and better). Real estate in Puerto Vallarta is more expensive than in Houston, Texas because it is one of the most desirable resort towns in the world with a huge selection of good restaurants, supermarkets, etc. and excellent modern healthcare. Many people from the US come here to have their dental work and cosmetic procedures done at a fraction of the cost but with good quality while taking their vacations. So, if you decide to give Mexico a try, bienvenidos!😅

Glad to see you back Jason. I began following you before I myself moved to Queretaro in 2023 and will say that your videos in those early days contributed to my decision to move to Queretaro. I plan on spending the remainder of my life here. I continued to follow your videos (have very much enjoyed those featuring woodland excursions and your boat) and will continue to do so. Good luck in all that you touch.

@@one100billneoone4 Mazatlan right now but looking elsewhere. Summers are brutal on the coast but wonderful the other six months.
More expensive than original estimates if you live in any larger or expat area. And if you don’t, then hard to manage without car to get to shopping, health care etc.
The expat community is really helpful for integrating and getting comfortable - especially if your Spanish isn’t good.
The hardest thing for me is the pollution - from cars and littering. And of course, the street dogs and cats.
The locals are very friendly and welcoming. But you do get different pricing by some as a gringo at the markets. I just try to smile and greet everyone as I know the influx of foreigners has made it difficult for them by inflating food and housing costs. If I think it is pricey, I can only imagine how it affects them.

@@roundpawsAny advice or tips you can provide would be greatly appreciated but I understand if you’re not able to. I am moving solo so looking for advice or mentors from individuals in particular expats who’ve already made the move. I already acquired Mexican citizenship so that’ll definitely help. Not sure if it’s more difficult traveling alone or not. I live in Colorado. Que tengas un gran día!!

@@one100billneoone4 I also moved solo. Depends what you are looking for. Any idea of areas considering? There are so many UA-cam videos with practical advice. QRoo Paul, Backpacking Brunette, etc. Having citizenship def gets you through most of the initial hurdles expats deal with.

Am I the only person who watches these videos and thinks: but how do you pay for all of that?? Like, were you able to work remotely or you just quit your job and traveled for months on end? I have a good job, make upwards of $125K/year and couldn't afford this so while I'm not trying to count your money, I do wonder how people do this.

Nowdays hearing from diffrent european descendants from the US , and Canada came to the conclusion that Hollywood throughout the years worked hard to placed México as a dangerous , dirty , poore country and managed the way they wanted to .....now ......disafortunatly many already noticed , and probably many not that is getting real hard to make a decend living due to high cost of living with everything specifically retires and many others ......to make story short ...Hollywood now is way distand from reality about mexico... with beautiful beaches , modern cities , colonial and magical towns , nice people and affordable if you can spare $ 1600 Dollars for yourself , $ 2500 dollars for two .. mexican americans more likely no problem enjoying dual citizenship and for others with right documentation you'll have the right place to enjoy a pretty decend life by the ocean , colonial city or modern like any other city around the world ....why I know ?? Because am living both worlds !!

@@JorgeGarcia-mh5il I agree Hollywood has done so much damage to Mexico's image. What I had a problem with was the European descendants. You don't need their approval or opinion to know that Mexico is excellent. Mexico has its Euro descendants who can vouch for that.

It’s called corporate projecting I don’t want to hear about public safety from a country that has mass shooting on a regular basis. USA has more guns than people n exists in stolen land built by stolen people. And USA is the only country to exterminate and replace its indigenous population by means of national policy under a democratic justice for all of course 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬pure BS now people are getting educated because Hollywood does control the images n narratives💩💩💩💩🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

More and more ex pats are not welcomed, because they are causing gentrification, everything is going up in price as prices are adjusted for ex pats. Same thing is happening in Hawaii as indigenous Hawaiians are priced out of their land, and homes, Porto Rico same thing is happening as new economy is fixated on tourism, everything is priced out for tourist leaving out local population.

Starting with the expat thing, they proclaim it as if they were going to have a special treatment because they're "expats"
For them, "expats" it makes them feel like they don't have necessities and almost like romanticizing the situation while all the rest of the world are "aliens", "invaders", illegal immigrants"
Any of those immigrants didn't want to go to USA as an adventure or romanticizing the lack of money, no other people in the world call themselves as the"American expats"
