    The Celtics offense has had a lot of success in their pick & roll game utilizing clever concepts. In particular, in this video I breakdown the effect of Kemba Walker, and the screening of Daniel Theis. I also highlight the genius of Brad Stevens. NBA. Kyrie Irving. Jayson Tatum.

      He fits the offense better. He and kyrie have a similar skill set but entirely different playstyles. Kyrie wants and tries to dominate the game while Kemba can take over if necessary but often plays a more team oriented game. Basketball is one of the few sports that having a team stacked with talent can be a times detrimental because no matter how good your scheme is if you don't have players who games compliment each other they usually end up not producing what they should be capable of

    • @raymondjohnson2744
      @raymondjohnson2744 5 років тому +8

      @ it's because of a lot of the most talented players don't learn to play a team or effectively without the ball in their hands. That usually stems from a players unwillingness to adjust their game to complement their teammates , teams collecting talent instead of building a cohesive core or sometimes some player's skillset just doesn't translate into a team. Even the most elite players are only accounting for 25-30% of their teams offense and if that's to the detriment of their teammates effectiveness it will show

      @@wargiam I blame the entire pre college structure because like you most aau teams acts as a showcase for the teams top 2 or 3 players on each team and unless the player's from an area with an abundance of talent or a basketball prep school talented have the ball thrust in their hands and told to just win the game instead of either organization focusing on truly developing and teaching them to play a team game. It's why young European players while not always better or more talented tend to be more polished when they make it to the league and talented high school stars who probably never played the position they would at higher levels get lost in the shuffle

    Kemba makes it look so smooth and he fits this offense like a glove. More of a true point gaurd than a score first type like Kyrie was. There is no doubt Brad Stevens is an elite coach and if they can get completely healthy and add 1 more good player they can win the Eastern conference.

    • @Ironfangzu
      @Ironfangzu 5 років тому +16

      Actually Kemba is also a score first type. He is certainly not an elite passing point guard. But he fits into this team much better because he's willing to play within the team concept. Kyrie is much more talented, but he liked to do things his own way. He would probably look at clever plays like this as beneath him since he could create shots and openings with his insane ball handling skills. But that style does tend to leave the other 4 guys standing flat footed and watching, with less team cohesion.

    I’m a Celtics fan because for the basketball IQ of Brad Stevens, the deep spirit of the organization with Ainge, and smart players.
    With Kemba as better actor for PG (in Stevens play style), Hayward back for real (he’ll be back soon and stronger), Tatum and Brown growing very well in the system, Marcus Smart is a beast defensive leader, Boston will be a great team.

    Been watching games in slow motion to really see every little detail .. one of the things I’m noticing is how much of the “chance” bounce of the ball off the rim and crazy rebounds can change the game and how much it would help a team if the players always went into best possible positions every time they shoot the ball to get the best chance at a rebound:
    Example- when a guy shoots a three to win the game with 5 seconds left and misses it and the ball bounces out to an open space that if he had a habit of always going to best spot on floor he would of got the offensive rebound instead of just standing in the corner watching his shot miss and bounce around the rim .
    What if a team had some philosophy of using “random bounce theories “ to calculate the best spot to get to on each type of shot to increase odds of an offensive rebound instead of just standing there watching

Jaylen Brown's game almost mimics Jayson Tatum's game but super athletic allowing him to get layups and open looks at the basket. JT, JB and Kemba walker form a three headed monster making it difficult the defend all three. Spacing in the offense is what makes the offense potent and allows all three to create off the dribble and all three have great handles. If Boston would've added Andre Drummond from the Pistons they would've been a favorite to win the NBA title.

      How when this teams ceiling isn't any higher than last years team as dysfunctional as it was. Still a 2nd round exit at best. This is called a honeymoon phase. Same thing happened with kyrie in his first season. Wait til this team gets into the playoffs vs the Sixers and bucks. Until they get back to the ecf again, none of this matters.

    Looking back on this video, I can say that there offense is exactly that, genius when the players can hit there semi contested shots. But what I’ve learned since this video came out is that when they can’t shoot well that game, jump shot wise, it’s an automatic loss for us since we never drive as much as other teams

    Some NBA coaches (*cough* Doc Rivers *cough*) pretty much just roll the ball out onto the floor and say "go get em boys!", while other coaches, like Brad Stevens, is a teacher and a master tactician. I feel that under his watch, the Celts have one of the most disciplined and well-designed attacks in the NBA. They know their X's and O's. Because Stevens followed Rivers as a coach, it was very easy to see the contrast in the two coaches. This is probably why Stevens is such a great coach for the Celtics team this year, with young players ready learn and with veterans like Hayward and Walker who are driven by wins, not ego. Last year, Kyrie was a more talented player than anyone on this year's team, but I bet he liked to play with his own style and preferred to create shots for himself with his extreme talent instead of relying on team play and good passing.

      mattia saffi the seal is/could be considered two players positioning themselves for a rebound or offensive post positioning, and yes the ball handler isn’t involved (at least Initially) by the time he is, the sealer is no longer moving unless he is getting pushed, but... players have the right to defend their space(hence the defensive foul on the floor call) just like it is for the rule of verticality,
