Add a Weezer fan I can say i'm extremely impressed by this cover, and I admire Mark Fosters ability to sing this song, as well as Rivers Cuomo ability to song Pumped up Kicks Weezer and Foster the People rock!
I like that they have both paid homage to each other and shown that they respect each others music. FTP and Weezer = perfect example of how music should be
Man, would I have loved to be there. Weezer is one of my all time, favorite bands, and Foster the People, has become one of my favorites as well.... Good music, with a ton of emotion, talent, and rockin lyrics.
So true. What really sucks though was when Foster the People came to my country and covered this song and I was psyched, but I could tell almost three-quarters of the audience didn't know the lyrics. If I had a thousand fists I would punch some sense into them.
people should stop creating these fantasy feuds and comparisons between artists that are clearly different but both unique and just enjoy their music for what it is
This has the best sound of all the videos of them covering this song. I'm turning it into an mp3! I can't listen to the original any more without feeling it's missing something.
@GREENFucka Well, Pumped Up Kicks has been out for about a year while Weezer was touring with the memories tour. Say It Ain't So has been a song for 17 years and, more than likely, someone in the band is a Weezer fan. Big difference between the two songs in chronology alone.
Weezer's cover isn't bad. They took "Pumped-Up Kicks" and made it their style. Here, Foster the People take "Say it Ain't So" and did the same thing. It becomes theirs around 2:30. They basically come out and own this song like Weezer does live. Fantastic cover, and a hundred million billion times better than the Deftones.
@raspberry996 Are you joking? It's like a direct cover. Even the solo guitar bits are the same. The only real differences are there's less vocal harmonizing in this and the delivery of Foster compared to Cuomo. Even if you prefer Foster's vocals I can't see how this is different enough to be "sooo much better". And considering they didn't make it their own, at all (they did justice to the original in being so faithful, nothing more), all credits gotta go to Weezer anyway.
@joojoosasa Really? FtP has a billion times the talent of Weezer? We are talking about the same band here, right? The one who's lead singer and songwriter went to the BERKLEE COLLEGE OF MUSIC and HARVARD UNIVERSITY? The guy who wrote EIGHT albums (twelve if you include solo albums)? The band who's been touring for almost twenty years, now? Yeah. Let's have a reunion here in twenty years and see who's still talented.
@robpang12 Pumped up kicks is a relatively new song compared to Say It Ain't So which is a VERY well known record by weezer, which was recorded like 16 years ago.. cant fault rivers cuomo fro making sure he got the lyrics right can you?
@snipsnapclapable Not only did you just COMPARE Foster to Weezer, you said their cover was better? Not only did you just say their cover was better, but you COMPARED Marks voice to Rivers' voice? Not only did you just COMPARE their voices, but you said MARKS WAS BETTER? I'm sorry, but let's see Mark WRITE "Wrestle with Jiiiiiiiiiiimmmmy" and sound as good as Rivers Cuomo, one of the best rock tenors of the past 20 years, and then we'll talk. Not only am I insulted by your comment, I'm amused.
@dancrapanzanofilms Yeah pretty much, in the span of 3 sentences. I don't really think that line "Wrestle with Jimmy" is that fantastic (you can explain the deep and resembling significance of it to me). I like the original too. And now you're going to hate on me saying "too". I'm glad your amused, but don't be insulted. I don't want Weezer fans to take it personally. Go along and comment on Weezer videos now.
@kingdavidtrialruns Really? Because Foster the People performed on August 12th, while Weezer performed on August the 4th. It seems to me that you are quite confused. No matter though, everyone makes mistakes. ;) Cheers
well i was only a baby when i lived through the 90's so i don't remember shit of what I did, I also heard this song in the mid 2000's so whatever you're assuming sounds p r e t t y c r a z y does this also mean my mom and my dad has not lived through the 90's because she doesn't know this song? those are some asinine assumptions
@jerimierothwell Uhhhh, what are you talking about? Weezer in no way made the song sound better. To be honest, Foster the People has about a bilion times the talent that Weezer has.
@Coldcooler3 Don't get me wrong, FtP is a great band (their album is in my car right now), but they'll never be "the next Weezer". Reason #1, NOBODY will ever be the next Weezer. Rivers Cuomo re-invented music the way he wanted it to sound, just like Ray Charles or 'Queen' did. While FtP is a great band, until they completely change the music industry and go mainstream WITHOUT sacrificing their musicality, they'll never amount to Weezer. Reason #2, They'll never write as many songs. Simple.
@Enchurito To each their own, I prefer Rivers' voice to Mark's (not that I don't like Mark's) but I still don't think it's fair to say that the cover itself is way better than the original when the only significant difference is the quality of their voices.
@Coldcooler3 next weezer?? have you ever listened to weezer..before they started to suck? not even close. don't do foster the injustice of taking away their originality by labeling them as the next anything...
Add a Weezer fan I can say i'm extremely impressed by this cover, and I admire Mark Fosters ability to sing this song, as well as Rivers Cuomo ability to song Pumped up Kicks
Weezer and Foster the People rock!
I like that they have both paid homage to each other and shown that they respect each others music. FTP and Weezer = perfect example of how music should be
Im screaming. This is perfect
Man, would I have loved to be there. Weezer is one of my all time, favorite bands, and Foster the People, has become one of my favorites as well.... Good music, with a ton of emotion, talent, and rockin lyrics.
Had to switch videoes cause of the audio on the other vid, gotta admit tho. Weezer was better with pumped up kicks and I wouldn’t hear this normally..
This is beyond perfect
So true. What really sucks though was when Foster the People came to my country and covered this song and I was psyched, but I could tell almost three-quarters of the audience didn't know the lyrics. If I had a thousand fists I would punch some sense into them.
This is amazing! I love you, Mark! I heard Rivers taught the song to Mark at a party once. Weezer also does an awesome cover of Pumped Up Kicks!

amazing audio, dude. Thank you so much.
people should stop creating these fantasy feuds and comparisons between artists that are clearly different but both unique and just enjoy their music for what it is

Well done !!!!
Weezer and Foster the People are both great bands, they should tour together.
Mark, I love your voice!! This song is amazing!! Sorry Weezer fans, I think this one's better :)
its a classic
weezer's sound still makes this song sound ten tons better.
stop arguing and just appreciate Mark Foster's beauty and voice and pure amazingness
i think they should each cover another one or two songs from each other
and put it on a single
i'd definitely buy it.
😍😍
Yes

Cool
im a hardcore weezer fan, but this is really good too!!
@kingdavidtrialruns Well, the video I saw of Weezer covering Pumped up Kicks was dated Aug 5th.
Wow they can do Neil Young AND Weezer really well, not to mention the amazing album they made on their own!
TRUE :)
@Immafun12 HELL YEAH they did!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Immafun12 yes they did

Dazzled
@raspberry996 Despite all the hate your getting for no reason. I completely agree
applause, respect no need lyric to sing!

fnjklhvbyufoegsbek I can't even. I fucking love this.
what sort of insight did you give me? i am not an idiot
@robpang12 Pumped up kicks is a relatively new song compared to Say It Ain't So which is a VERY well known record by weezer, which was recorded like 16 years ago.. cant fault rivers cuomo fro making sure he got the lyrics right can you?
@kingdavidtrialruns Very incorrect. This was in response.
Ya and im pretty sure if this song came out at the same time Say it ain't so came out too. He wouldnt need to read the lyrics to.
At least they new the lyrics and didnt read it of a paper
^ this. If you don't know this song, you have not lived through the 90s.
@snipsnapclapable
Not only did you just COMPARE Foster to Weezer, you said their cover was better?
Not only did you just say their cover was better, but you COMPARED Marks voice to Rivers' voice?
Not only did you just COMPARE their voices, but you said MARKS WAS BETTER?

Not only am I insulted by your comment, I'm amused.
weezer will always have the better version. this is good too, but not as good as weezer.
LoooooooooooL I sense major butt hurt
yeah because wrestle with jimmy is the peak of songwriting
@dancrapanzanofilms Yeah pretty much, in the span of 3 sentences. I don't really think that line "Wrestle with Jimmy" is that fantastic (you can explain the deep and resembling significance of it to me). I like the original too. I like it way better than the original lol
@11RoxySurf oh my goddd *le dead*
because you disagree with it? gr8.
@roborobiee You do realize that Weezer is covering their song, right?
Fangirling to the maxxx
ha weezer does one of their songs they do one of theirs
not bad, not bad......
@kingdavidtrialruns Really? Because Foster the People performed on August 12th, while Weezer performed on August the 4th. It seems to me that you are quite confused. No matter though, everyone makes mistakes. ;) Cheers
@peanutbrittle50 "Even if you prefer Foster's vocals" that's what makes it SOOO much better. River's voice is kind of annoying.
well i was only a baby when i lived through the 90's so i don't remember shit of what I did, I also heard this song in the mid 2000's so whatever you're assuming sounds p r e t t y c r a z y
does this also mean my mom and my dad has not lived through the 90's because she doesn't know this song? those are some asinine assumptions
THUMBS UP FOR NO? FUCKING REASON ! :P
don't judge ponsi. Ponsi is perfect.
there's something wrong with the bridge
The original is in E flat, but they didn’t tune down, so the song sounds a bit higher.
ok then i guess whatever you say
Yeah, I couldn't listen to that at all cause my ears started hurting. ;x
Sorry FTP
Weezer kicked ass with this song and you can not come up near the bar,
But thats fine, You guys did great here
thums up if you think foster the people is the next weezer
Mark Foster didn't need to read lyrics to sing it because everybody knows this song
rivers cuomo taught mark foster how to play this on guitar so he decided to do a cover of it.... just informing you if you didn't know....
huh its funny rivers needed a sheet of lyrics?wierd.
@jerimierothwell Uhhhh, what are you talking about? Weezer in no way made the song sound better. To be honest, Foster the People has about a bilion times the talent that Weezer has.
Haha, returning the favor to Weezer I see.
better? than?
sorry yer kids
this is sooo much better than the original
couldn't even come close to matching weezer, but weezer's cover of pumped up kicks was fuckin great maybe even better then the original.
lel this isn't 4chan dude your greentext meme arrow shit don't work here
@Coldcooler3
Thumbs up if you think theyll be better then weezer
@Coldcooler3 Don't get me wrong, FtP is a great band (their album is in my car right now), but they'll never be "the next Weezer". Reason #1, NOBODY will ever be the next Weezer. While FtP is a great band, until they completely change the music industry and go mainstream WITHOUT sacrificing their musicality, they'll never amount to Weezer. Reason #2, They'll never write as many songs. Simple.
Not quite the same as Weezer covering Foster, Weezer actually made the song sound better
@Enchurito To each their own, I prefer Rivers' voice to Mark's (not that I don't like Mark's) but I still don't think it's fair to say that the cover itself is way better than the original when the only significant difference is the quality of their voices.
Lol that comment just looks so immature
@jjmagallanes gtfo
@Coldcooler3 next weezer?? have you ever listened to weezer..before they started to suck? not even close. don't do foster the injustice of taking away their originality by labeling them as the next anything...
Foster the Peoples cover of this was better than the original. - Just.Sayin. -
Haha I hope that isn't a rip on cuomo
