I read that Sinatra's real-life arranger, Sammy Kahn, helped Piscopo put this together. Together they completely rewrote the original lyrics/score. Supposedly Sinatra himself enjoyed it.
yeah, it's like someone made an act right here that someone else with the guts to do it could redo this bit, but, of course, modern audiences wouldn't recognize most of the songs.
He would not have done the Sinatra impersonation on TV without Frank's approval. Any entertainer in the NY NJ area to a beating if they made fun of the Chairman in a distasteful way. Ask Don Imus, who was threatened by some people of Italian descent for making too much sport of Frank when he was ailing. Imus stopped immediatly.
3:14 Pat Benatar was so cute covering her nose...I remember seeing this in the early 80's. I was hysterical because I loved the vocal phrasing, the arrangement, the tunes..THUMB! Some day you're gonna pay that tab! The whole thing killed me..
I love how Piscopo stays in character the entire time, including the snubbing of Belzer at the end. Great work from the band too, keeping that arrangement.
Sort of like when Frank was doing the Duets thing at the end of his career. Bono was in the studio with him. At the end Bono thanked him..Frank's answer: yeah, sure, Blow Nose.
That was great.joe doesn't get credit for much.but the snubbing was funnier than anything any modern comedic actor would do now.they try to capture that but few succeed.joe nailed it
Man, Piscopo IS Sinatra! He even sings like him, although we all know no one can come close when it comes to real voice production like The Chairman in his prime.
Having seen late Sinatra performances - Piscopo absolutely nails the essence. ..really captures the feel. There's a reason his Sinatra deal was so popular. Take a look at other people doing Sinatra. As far as the singing -- as other people have said -- this is a parody.
From "Catch A Rising Star's 10 Anniversary" on HBO in the 80's... For me, this is Joe Piscopo's crowning achievement ! Featuring the Blues Brothers' horn section as well... Fantastic !
I have sitting on my CD shelf "Rock Swings" by Paul Anka where Paul does "swinging" versions of "Eye of the Tiger", "Wonderwall", "Jump" and, if you can believe it, "Smells Like Teen Spirit". It's the whole Piscopo routine, but done for real. It came out in 2005 on the Verve label. Amazing ...
I think the best tributes to rock & roll are ones that don't take the music seriously and instead have lots of fun with it. And it doesn't get any funnier or better than this. Piscopo is wonderful and really gets the essence of how Sinatra would have probably done such songs if he had chosen to do so. Sinatra often claimed to hate rock & roll, but so many rockers loved ol' Frankie!
I never cared much for Piscopo unless he was doing Sinatra, and his Jerry Lewis from the telethon days was pretty good too. My favorite Piscopo as Sinatra performance was on SNL when he was singing the Woody Woodpecker song, when the second line of the song ends with "Pecker song". I wish that were on youtube.
has anyone seen the video with joe piscopo as sinatra with the rock group Great White doing a version of Witchcraft? If you can find that one... It's a classic! cannot find it on youtube.
I read somewhere they ran into each other at a social setting & Joe was sweating bullets & Frank called him over, told him to relax & complimented his impression of & enjoyed his work.
This is from Catch a Rising Star's 10th anniversary show on HBO... I'm thinking somewhere around '82. The show had a ton a really great acts. Robin Williams was hilarious closing the show... if anyone has the entire show, please post!!
This is just Brilliant! The folks who say he's a bad singer absolutely don't get it! I think this was at "Catch a Rising star", He's introduced by Richard Belzer, and I'm pretty sure the band behind him is most of the Blue Brothers' band...on loan from snl, I guess, I see Donald "Duck" Dunn, Mr. Fabulous, "Blue Lou" Marini (>) and at least one other familiar face...don't see Matt "Guitar" Murphy, but "Frank" was only using horn section, I think.
@shegotyogood. Right on. Couldn't agree more. Jo may not be in the lime light now, doesn't mean he want good in his day. Good show. Wouldve loved to have been there.
i love this record, it's hallarious, I love Joe Piscopo. I would love him doing today's music like that I love Rocn 'N Roll tune, including Call me Maybe, Wild Ones, Party Rock theme, Good Feeling, and Hearts in Stereo, or even Payphone, I wantyou back or other hits from Flo Rider, Drake, and Mikky Ninage. That would be wonderful for Joe to perform
yes,it's Pat Benatar @3:16. And it's also "THAT BROAD" Liza - with a Z - Minelli - @1:37. This is not a slam at you for getting her name spelled wrong; you obviously questioned the spelling; rather, it's word play... Liza - Judy Garland's daughter, BTW - did a TV concert in 1972 titled: "LIZA - WITH A Z"... check it out at wiki...
Priceless.....Piscopo was so great back in the 80's....
Even though this was done for laughs, these instrumental arrangements are absolutely brilliant!
I read that Sinatra's real-life arranger, Sammy Kahn, helped Piscopo put this together. Together they completely rewrote the original lyrics/score. Supposedly Sinatra himself enjoyed it.

You are right M CK, those arrangements are tight, man that was too cool, I'm 49 and from Philly, can't believe I've never seen this before, WOW
@@randallmiller8238 That's because Sinatra's own arranger Sammy Cahn did the arrangements. They are perfect
3:14 Pat Benatar was so cute covering her nose...I remember seeing this in the early 80's. I was hysterical because I loved the vocal phrasing, the arrangement, the tunes..THUMB! Some day you're gonna pay that tab! The whole thing killed me..
..I Know... Isn't She Absolutely Adorable 💘💘
Joe Piscopo as Sinatra doing rock and roll renditions is pure gold.
Such an underrated comedic genius. So hilarious.
You are joking?
Looking for years to find Piscopo singing under my Thumb. Brilliant.
THUMB!, the girl....
Ya mean THUMB??
I love how Piscopo stays in character the entire time, including the snubbing of Belzer at the end. Great work from the band too, keeping that arrangement.

@@thetonyshiftonrockrollmorn5785 Tony Clifton?
What ever else Joe Piscopo does... - he does the absolute BEST Sinatra EVER!Born to play that "role"... Ray Liotta take notice.
Man, Piscopo IS Sinatra! He even sings like him, although we all know no one can come close when it comes to real voice production like The Chairman in his prime.
I saw this when it was broadcast on HBO back in mid '80s. I was dying laughing. Still funny as ever.
Wow, forgot about this. The change has come ... THUMB. Not an exaggeration either!
Having seen late Sinatra performances - Piscopo absolutely nails the essence. ..really captures the feel. There's a reason his Sinatra deal was so popular. Take a look at other people doing Sinatra. As far as the singing -- as other people have said -- this is a parody.
Iconic gold. When he slammed the mic into his hand and left! Lmfao! Thumb!
i love this. great arrangements and a great Sinatra rendition.
Sammy Cahn reworked the arrangements for Piscopo. That's why they are so good and true to Sinatra
From "Catch A Rising Star's 10 Anniversary" on HBO in the 80's...
For me, this is Joe Piscopo's crowning achievement !
Featuring the Blues Brothers' horn section as well...
Fantastic !
JOE PISCOPO was incredible!!!
"There is not.....one.....place....to....hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide." POW!!! (fist pump)
Freaking hilarious.
Brilliant! It’s all here. Especially, the attitude

Pat Boone - In a Metal Mood
Richard Cheese - any of his stuff. The Big Band parodies caught on!
Awesome skit! Great arrangement; wonderfully executed and so funny too. Everybody had their head's bobbing and feet tapping. lol
My favorite Piscopo/Frank SNL segment is the "What Would Frank Do?" game show. And I haven't seen it in years.
2:58 he just eliminates the under my & says thumb! Succinct.
Awesome...Piscopo....
Blew my mind when I first saw it back in the day, still so good.
The change has come . . . thumb.
!!!!!!!
Enough said THUMB!LOL
Love Joe's sinatra.classic of all time.
Looks like it's 2/3 of the Blues Brothers horn section there in his band. "Mr Fabulous" Allan Rubin and "Blue" Lou Marini!
They were put together by Paul from letterman. He was not allowed to be on show cause of contractual issues. He put the Blues Brothers together.
That wa great.
“ you’re chilly, baby “
Hilarious!
A favorite for years ...
Played it on underground radio in NV , late nigh
THAT WAS UNFRICCINBELIEVEABLE , INCREDIBLE SO SO FUNNY JOE IS GREAT, AND HE IS A JERSEY BOY.......
Piscopo was one of my favorite cast members during the Eddie Murphy era.
I think the best tributes to rock & roll are ones that don't take the music seriously and instead have lots of fun with it. And it doesn't get any funnier or better than this. This is amazing!
Classic to have Pat Benatar in the audience listening to "Sinatra" doing her song in "his" style. Too funny!
The band is the Blues Brothers Band .
solid gold
Under my thumb -- my fav version!!!
WTF! WTF! Thank you so much, Mr. Jenks.
That's Frank's way for sure! Love Pat Benatar's reaction!
joe p was always funny!

Ysmigra Arzygler Check out his version of Silent Night. Priceless!
@@kirbycat "SLEEP! Heavenly peeeaaace".
Hit me with that shot !
Very funny and It's almost Frank Joe Piscopo singing Born To Run was funny Frank Sinatra has pointed at the brass band good music
Though the voice doesnt sound anything like him, his mannerisms, attitude, annunciation, and phrasing is spot on.
lol great impression
It would have been great if Frank Sinatra actually came out and stood behind him.
This was years before Richard Cheese. The arrangements are awesome.
Under my thumb a chick knock me dowwwwwn !
has anyone seen the video with joe piscopo as sinatra with the rock group Great White doing a version of Witchcraft? If you can find that one... It's a classic! cannot find it on youtube.
Joe was on the show, "Solid Gold" around this time doing his Frank impression-- Sinatra introduced him saying, " This guy does me better than me."
I read somewhere they ran into each other at a social setting & Joe was sweating bullets & Frank called him over, told him to relax & complimented his impression of & enjoyed his work.
looks like The Blues Brothers Band backing and arranging. very tight.
Joe Piscopo is a comedic genius!

Love his Sinatra act. I laugh and laugh. It's great! He's on the radio every morning 970AM the Answer from 6 - 9. Check it out!!!! A great talent!!!
You are chilly baby....
Thanks Bill, still funny!
@scbutler51 didn't know she was in audience, cool
one of the funniest, spot-on and hippest impressions ever
Few have been as brilliant in a simple flash moment. He was for sure when he did The Chairman.
Joe is such talented man such a jewel!
When the MC said he'd be happy if he died right then, "Frank" should have said , "Well, I do know some guys."
Really good!
You have no clue. This was brilliant!
The MC is Richard Belzer from Law and Order.
fucking comedy gold
Lmao!!! Talent mr. Piscapo

awesome, baby!!! Joe was Sinatra's favorite Impersonator.
"You Are Chilly Baby"
change has come- thumb -great
I still say this whenever I can. You'd be surprised how often you can actually fit it into a conversation 😆
Talent is Talent!
Goes to prove a good Frank goes with everything. Nelson Riddle arraignment.
Watching this makes me wish that Sinatra had really covered some rock songs before he went completely senile. Genius.
briliant arrangements...and
"this aint no disco...no DBGD"
He had Sinatra down!
@shegotyogood. Right on. Couldn't agree more. Jo may not be in the lime light now, doesn't mean he want good in his day. Good show. Wouldve loved to have been there.
If Frank had done an album of rock hits, thus is exactly how it would sound.
genius
I knew pretty soon , Dat Broad ...

Sinatra imitates Piscopo pretty darn good, or is it the other way around?🎤🎺🎷😂
If I died now it would be great. RIP Belz.
OMG Richard Belzer so young.
