I like the angle 😁 Yeah, I don't do Japanese cassettes as they are so hard to find for me. I do like the sound of these, probably MA tape in them. Cheers for the shout out, I shall reciprocate 😉
Lol, you should😅. I found the tape in these CDing IV had better high end than the source. I don't know, it just sounded brighter but kept the lowend as well. Hissy as hell though without using Dolby S but that's to be expected with a metal.
There is no such thing as a low end Metal as that for a so called low end was pretty much still source perfect just like all the high ends we heard on other channels. It also proved how high end the 3 head Sony really is including it not having dirty heads at all by putting it through it's paces and it handling it excellently.
There were TDK CDing tapes sold in the US. Might have been different models. Briefly worked at one of TDKs US VHS tape plants. They made TDK branded tapes right alongside Maxell and some others. The tape itself was shipped in big rolls from Japan. The US side merely assembled it into cassettes and so forth. It was an amazing factory, ultra high tech for the day.
Wow, that's really cool. Funny that other companies stock was assembled in the same factory but it kind of makes sense. They did indeed have CDing in the US. I don't know if they had the Metal CDing though. From what I understand the Metal version was exclusive to Japan. As a teenager I used to use CDing 2 a lot. I don't ever recall seeing CDing 1 in the UK though.
Retro core , where are you buddy ! Its been awhile since you made a vid. I really enjoy your cassette reviews and am jonesing for a new one. Come on back, won't you. 🖐🙂👍
I'm still here. I've been meaning to upload a new video for a while but my main channel "Retro Core" keeps me very busy. I'll try to get a new tape video out this week. By the way, thanks for subsce👍
Yeah, I'm surprised at how well the tape preformed. After reading these were below entry level metal cassettes I was worried I'd bought a load of bad tape. But no, this tape sounded good. Better than the source in some respects.
I'm sure Sony decks are calibrated on Sony's own formula. Although I was told this deck had been calibrated to TDK SA. I've got so SA but have yet to record on to them.
Yeah, I was very surprised. I really should have pushed this a lot harder. Over here the CDing IV was considered the metal for those who couldn't afford the more renowned TDK Metals. I don't think it matters because this held up like a champ. Looks nice too.
It's what's easily available. The popular lengths are gone, and probably there weren't many of them left in stock back in the 90s. All mine CDingIV's are 54s too.
In Japan a 54 minute cassette is very popular. The reason is that most albums here at the time were around 50 minutes in leangh. Too long to fit on one side of a 90 yet too short for a 60. So the 54 came to be.
They did. Also in Europe. The CDing II is known for being crap. The CDing I and CDing II were sold in Europe and the US but the CDing IV was a Japan only cassette.
Congratulations on the marriage. Just make sure your hobby stays intact 😂. My missus tried to get rid of all my fun stuff such as audio gear and games. She failed but now accepts them 👍
Unlisted but linked on your last video all the way from May?!!!!!? Think this better get listed now you have people watching fro your own links regardless. lol.

hi Tony , nice to see you here :-)))))
Subbed. Came from your other channel.
Cheers, PhilsComputerLab
I like the sound of the tape. It sounds brighter than the source.
I think you could be right.

Very cool.
Did they make Sony tape at the same plant?

This is crazy!!! I would have loved to of had these back in my mix tape days.
Yeah, I'm surprised at how well the tape preformed. After reading these were below entry level metal cassettes I was worried I'd bought a load of bad tape. But no, this tape sounded good. Better than the source in some respects.
Does the CDing IV have the same issues with white powder that the MA's have?
Surprising it needed so much adjustment in the level and bias? Most decks are calibrated for TDK?
I'm sure Sony decks are calibrated on Sony's own formula. Although I was told this deck had been calibrated to TDK SA. I've got so SA but have yet to record on to them.
It sounds very good for a 'budget' metal tape. Then again, even crap tapes sounds decent if recorded correctly.
Yeah, I was very surprised. I really should have pushed this a lot harder. Over here the CDing IV was considered the metal for those who couldn't afford the more renowned TDK Metals. I don't think it matters because this held up like a champ. Looks nice too.
Just wondering what is with the 54 minutes rather than 60/74 ?

Hello i have many metal cassettes, it's cool stuff, really amazing
Yes they are!
I recall TDK used the "CDing" name on cassettes sold in the US as well.
They did. Also in Europe. The CDing II is known for being crap. The CDing I and CDing II were sold in Europe and the US but the CDing IV was a Japan only cassette.
@@retrocoreav7025 Interesting.
For as many channels you have, I will sub. :)
Thanks. I think even two is pushing it aittle 😅
Need to crank up that revel, should easily be able to peak at 5 to 6dB.
I agree. I really should have done so.
Been a minute Mark, sorry I've been busy. Just recently got married. Awesome video btw!!!! To me the tdk seems to preform rather nicely.
Congratulations on the marriage. Just make sure your hobby stays intact 😂. My missus tried to get rid of all my fun stuff such as audio gear and games. She failed but now accepts them 👍
@@retrocoreav7025 she doesn't mind mine to badly. She's more into the newer tech though. I prefer the classics still. It's all good. Take care buddy.
Oh, i already forgot how much i hated audio/video tapes, in high humidity it will always get mold growing on it.
This is true. Tapes need to be looked after. Saying that, Japan is humid too but only in summer.
Should use vinyl records

Wow, I didn't even realise this was unlisted. Fixed that now.
For being a metal tape it sure looks cheap imo a metal tape should have high quality construction
This is a cheaper end metal tape. Kind of at the end of the life.
