Again, di to panlalait sa Sierra Madre, usapang facts lamang na supported naman by evidence in the expert's research.

      Yes dini-debunk nya lang nga yung myth but it leaves spark of thinking or conclusion to the other people na ayus lang naman pala wasakin at mag deforest since hindi naman pala yun ang purpose as we believed.
      For me, it might not serve its purpose to block typhoons pero it has other relevant purposes like minimizing floods and upholds soil(via tree roots) which prevents from landsliding. And forest in general has great contribution in maintaining temperature. Imagine, sa published data from few decades ago, hindi pa ganun kainit sa pinas, even global nung hindi pa umusbong ang deforestation ng mga industrials.

    Sierra Madre will not stop typhoons, it weakens them. Considering most typhoons now are super typhoons that would be a blessing for northern folks. Besides, our ancestors saw the benefit of that mountain range. They even made legends and songs about it. I think, they wouldn't do that if Sierra Madre was just another common land feature.

      Legends reflect what they knew, modern science says otherwise.
      The whole argument of the video is to say and find out if the Sierra Madre mountain range really weakens typhoons because of its classification as a mountain range according to popular culture.
      The said research spearheaded by UP says that it has no significant effect on typhoons.
      BUT the argument that people of the old made songs and legends about Sierra Madre makes it more factual is a complete non-critical assumption.
      All mountains, especially mountain ranges have 2 sides based on weather. The leeward and windward side. It's only natural that people living on the leeward side of the mountain think that they are protected from the harsh winds from the windward side. This is the case for normal storms and gusts, NOT typhoons.
      Depending on where you are located in a mountain range. Wind gusts can reach 100+ kph in some valleys as it is funneled through.
      Also, all typhoons weaken the instant they make landfall as their direct source of energy (body of water) is cut off. It literally does not matter if the typhoon hits a flat and plain land or a mountainous area. In the end it would really make sense that a mountain range can block and shield us from typhoons (if the mountain range has an average height of 9000 - 15000 meters)
      I am not saying this to lessen the importance of Sierra Madre. All mountain ranges are important especially for nature. I'm just stating this to lessen ignorance regarding this topic being passed down by our future generations as a culture being perceived as truth.
      May God help us all.

Kng wla pong mga puno s sierra madre, dretso tatagas ang malalakas n ulan n mgiging sanhi ng baha at mga landslide. Kya sna po ingatan natin ang ating mga bundok at mga kagubatan. Excerpt from the study abstract:
    In this study, we investigated the influence of the effects of the Sierra Madre and the Cordillera Mountains Ranges (SMMR and CMR) on TC-associated wind and rainfall hazards to answer the question of whether the SMMR or the CMR mitigates TC hazards. We used the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model with modified SMMR and CMR terrains to disentangle the effects of the orography with flat land. Results show that Luzon-passing TCs maintain their intensities at landfall regardless of the frictional effects of the mountain ranges, but the CMR inhibits the re-intensification of westward-moving TCs emerging from landmass after traversing Luzon. The SMMR reduces wind exposure and basin-wide rainfall of the Cagayan Valley. Hence, the SMMR can be considered a barrier for that region. In addition, the weakening effect of the SMMR reduces the wind exposure of the island of Catanduanes and eastern Bicol the most. However, for the rest of Luzon, the SMMR enhances rainfall, which will likely compensate for the slight decrease in wind exposure - especially considering that most TC-related damages are water/rainfall related. The CMR, overall, has a larger hazard-mitigating effect than the SMMR. In any case, we believe that shifting the discourse to these mountains’ biodiversity conservation and restoration - rather than their purported TC mitigating effects - will be more strategically constructive.

    Sierra Madre mountain range plays a role in protecting parts of the Philippines, particularly the eastern provinces, from the full force of typhoons.
    The Sierra Madre is the longest mountain range in the Philippines, stretching along the eastern side of the island of Luzon. It acts as a natural barrier to some of the strong winds and heavy rains brought by typhoons, which often form in the Pacific Ocean and move westward toward the Philippines.
    When a typhoon approaches, the Sierra Madre can cause the storm to lose some of its intensity by blocking or redirecting the winds and rain. However, the extent of this protective effect depends on the storm's size, strength, and the direction it takes. In some cases, the mountain range may provide partial shielding, but the storm can still cause significant damage, especially in areas on the western side of the range.
    While the Sierra Madre does offer some protection, it's not a guarantee that areas in its path won't experience severe impacts from typhoons. Many regions in the eastern Philippines, like the Bicol Region and parts of Eastern Visayas, are still vulnerable to the full effects of these storms.

    That explains why mas saturated sa tubig at prone sa landslides ang cordillera (aside from different mining industry there), kasi yung height nya ang bumabasag sa buntot na clouds ng bagyo keeping it away from further circulating. Kaya humihina ang bagyo kasi yung ibang clouds na nagsicirculate pagbumanga sa cordillera hindi na nakakabalik for another rotation kasi nababasag na, hence basa at lalambot talaga lupa.

    Basta Super Bagyo hindi talaga yan mawawasak ng mga bundok kahit sa western side ng Luzon like Ilocos nagkakaroon prin ng damage. Sabi nga ng video eh sa mainit na dagat kumukuha ng enerhiya ang mga bagyo. Pag landfall whether flat/ mountainous ung lugar automatic hihina ang bagyo kasi dna siya nkakakuha ng enerhiya sa lupa pero bahagya lang ang paghina lalo na pag malalakas na bagyo or mga Super Bagyo mas compact kasi sila hindi gaano natitibag ng mga kabundukan kaya pag exit sa West Philippine Sea nkakasurvive prin at doon ulit kukuha ng lalakas bago tatama sa China/ Vietnam. Kasi akala ng marami pag may Sierra Madre eh malulusaw na ung bagyo at wala nang epekto sa North Luzon very wrong assumption. Hindi po tayo pinanganak kahapon lang. Before Odette, Yolanda or Pablo na tumama sa Visayas at Mindanao noon pa man daanan na talaga ng mga bagyo ang Northern Luzon kasi sila ung talagang Typhoon Belt or daanan talaga ng mga malalakas na bagyo noon pa. Since direksyon ng mga bagyo talaga eh West North West or North West pataas talaga at hindi pababa... Nagkakataon nalang na may malalakas na bagyo or Super Bagyo sa Southern area ng Pinas dahil sa malakas na High Pressure na tumutulak pababa sa bagyo. Kaya pansin niyo ung mga nagkakataon na malalakas na bagyo tumama sa South ng Pinas eh iyon na lang na iyon iyong naaalala nila kahit dumaan na ng mga ilang taon unlike sa North Luzon sa dami nang tumatama na malalakas na bagyo eh iyong iba dun eh nakakalimutan na nila agad. Tsaka kung barrier sana ang mga kabundukan ng Luzon eh di sana walang nawawasak na kabahayan upon landfall sa eastern coast ng North Luzon like Cagayan, Isabela at Aurora pero still nawawasak prin at nababaha prin dahil sa malakas na hangin at ulan. Until Western side of North Luzon like Ilocos Region nararamdaman prin nila ung suntok ng bagyo at nagkakaroon prin ng mga damages.

    Yes, mountains can weaken typhoons. Here's how:
    * Disruption of Structure:
    * When a typhoon encounters a mountain range, it disrupts the flow of air within the storm system.
    * Mountains can act as a barrier, blocking the typhoon's forward progress and forcing the winds to change direction. This can weaken the typhoon's core and disrupt the organized circulation of winds.
    * Increased Friction:
    * Rugged mountain terrain increases friction for the typhoon winds. This friction slows down the winds and can gradually weaken the storm's intensity.
    * Reduced Heat and Moisture Supply:
    * Typhoons gain strength from warm ocean waters. Mountains can block the flow of warm, moist air from the ocean, depriving the typhoon of the fuel it needs to intensify.
    * Altered Rainfall Patterns:
    * Mountains can significantly alter rainfall patterns. They can force the typhoon to release much of its moisture on the windward side of the mountain range, leaving less moisture available to fuel the storm as it moves inland.
    Important Note:
    * While mountains can weaken typhoons, they don't always completely stop them.
    * The degree of weakening depends on factors such as the size and strength of the typhoon, the height and orientation of the mountain range, and the overall terrain.
    Let me know if you'd like to explore any of these points in more detail!

    Mountain ranges can weaken typhoons in several ways, including:
    Surface friction
    When a typhoon interacts with land, surface friction reduces its intensity.
    Reduced ocean heat, momentum, and moisture fluxes
    When a typhoon moves over land, the reduction of ocean heat, momentum, and moisture fluxes weakens it.
    Descending warm and dry air
    Warm and dry air descending on the lee side of mountains reduces the moisture supply of typhoons.
    Slowed movement
    Mountain ranges can slow down the movement of a typhoon, giving meteorologists and disaster risk reduction agencies more time to identify and notify areas that need to be evacuated.
    Rainfall distribution
    The interaction of a typhoon's moisture-laden circulation and the orography can lead to enhanced or suppressed rainfall.

    Binabasag po ng mga puno at nagtataasan at mga matataas na bundok ang hangin. Kisa naman wala manlang sasangga at tumbok agad ang kapatagan.

    Hirap maging matalino nakakatangga.
    isipin mo kung may isip ka kung papasok ang isang bagyo sa patag na lupa Ewan kulang kung hindi liparin lahat ng bubong.

    Even though the Sierra Madre Mountain Range is not high enough to protect us from typhoons, most farmers in Region 2 depend on what this mountain range provides. Still, we must protect the Sierra Madre Mountain Range from deforestation for the many advantages(some are discussed in this video but there is more than that in actual) it gives to the community.

    Mahalaga ang mga kabundukan at mga puno kontra sa bagyo dahil ang mga buong malalakas na hangin na tatama sa lupa kaya nitong e diverge ng mga bundok o puno kesa direktang tumama ang buong hangin sa mga kabahayan. Hindi ako eksperto pero sigurado ako diyan sa mga sinasabi ko.

    The Sierra Madre, a masterpiece of divine creation, stands as a testament to perfection. Its every curve, every peak, and every valley, meticulously crafted by the Creator, reveals an intricate design with purpose. It was not simply built, but planned with profound intent, a blueprint of natural harmony that transcends human understanding. The Creator's work here, beyond question, is flawless - a silent answer to any inquiry about its existence, resonating with the quiet certainty that it was meant to be as it is.
