Harrisburg fireworks show abruptly canceled, three arrested, firearms recovered

  • A scheduled Harrisburg fireworks show at Riverfront Park was abruptly canceled this evening after several weapons were spotted by police.
    According to Harrisburg spokesman Matt Maisel, on multiple occasions throughout the show, Harrisburg Police officers spotted individuals who they believed were carrying weapons.
    The first person- a juvenile- officers approached and attempted to run, but was eventually arrested. According to police, he had a glock on him, capable of becoming fully automatic with a 24-round magazine.
    The second person- described as an adult man- ran alongside a juvenile and reportedly threw his gun in the river while running across the Walnut Street Bridge.

    Why anybody would take their family to the city in 2024 especially at night is beyond me.

    2 juveniles- they can't " legally " have guns, so criminals
    Wonder if the adult was legal...

      They'll say, "If I had been there...."
      If any of those people had been there, we wouldn't be talking about a casualty-free event.

      I believe they would say that the actions of criminals who break the law should not destroy the constitutional rights of law abiding citizens.

      In Pennsylvania, open carry of firearms is legal, so no, they should not be arrested for a legal activity. However, this incident involves juveniles in possession of firearms and if the perpetrator threw a gun into the river, I’m guessing it was an illegally possessed firearm. Therefore, I’m glad these people were arrested and I hope they are prosecuted fully. This story doesn’t give the full context….im guessing that the criminals were trying to threaten or intimidate people with their firearms, and for that, they deserve swift justice.
