Excellent, Julian. I missed out completely - but saw it passing through Langwathby. A magnificent sight in the evening sun!
Thanks Alan - sorry you missed out at your first location on the lovely sunny wind free day! Lots of bird noises at Hellifield - makes a change from sheep bleating.
Hi my name is Phil Holt.I started on the footplate at edgeley shed on the 4th of April 1961 as a fireman and I did 50yrs on the footplate I fired a number of these locomotive.I did 2yrs at Trafford Park shed then back to edgeley.I finished my time out at longsight as a driver. But on the 19th of February 1973 I fired the flying Scotsmen from Manchester to Darby works and on the 25th of August 1973 I fired lender from Darby to Manchester it's good to see steam locomotive still running about I fired a number of locomotive in my time Regards.Phil.
Thanks Phil - and thanks for the memories. I hope this brought back happy memories of working on steam locos.
Superb scenes from all the locations Julian and I liked the close up views at the stations. Regards, Jeff.
Thanks Jeff. Much of the appeal of the Settle to Carlisle line (apart from the trains of course) is the landscape and the buildings of the railway - the stations and the viaducts etc - so I like to include these when appropriate. Hellfield is particularly stunning I think!
Super video of the 8F Julian and good coverage of the movements around Hellifield.
Cheers - Allan.
Thanks Allan - a nice slow video day at Hellifield with not too many people getting in the way like they do at Carlisle!
Wonderful video Julian, looks like its a lovely weather to see some steam engines about. Especially seen the Class 8F steaming again. Thanks for sharing this. Cheers ... Josh
Thanks Josh - it was lovely and warm, and no wind for a change. So - a good day.
Nicely done Julian, interesting footage from Hellifield, I see the weeds are taking over again there, a busy day for you but well worth it , cheers nige.
Thanks Nige. I really like Hellfield, despite its weed infected platform ends and tatty old signal box! I had an hour and a half from my train arriving, shortly followed by the steam loco, before the tour appeared - so time to capture all the movements and take a variety of shots showing the splendid architecture of the listed station building.
Great stuff, Julian. You worked hard for that one!
Thanks Alan. My reply seems to have vanished - so I shall repeat it - I went on a train ride from West Cumbria to Hellifield - no stress and I could look at the view. Plenty of time at Hellifield to watch all the movements before the charter arrived from York. Instead of watching the diesel get swapped for the steam loco i went to Settle to see it moving a little faster. Then after a little wander round Settle - train back to Carlisle where i saw the tour about to leave. So a nice quiet relaxing day out.
that ex pullman coach in red would look better in pullman livery bring it back west coast
Great location. Superb filming. Thank you.
