Also,3 members are currently enlisted in the military xiumin,and d.o went in may and july of 2019 and will return in the beginning of 2021 and shortly after this video was made suho left to serve his time in the military!
Just a clarification. I hope this will make sense because I'm writing this in a hurry before I have to run. It isn't Lay's decision to not participate in EXO activities. It's a political issue and not in his hands. There is tension between Korea & China and it can get complicated to explain. Regardless, China banned K-pop. Lay has an official "position" in the Chinese communist government as some sort of youth ambassador and therefore can't participate with EXO, a Korean group. He would look like a traitor to his country. He has a huge fan base in China and is very successful. Lay gets tons of hate from Chinese and Korean people. There are Koreans who think Lay isn't loyal to EXO and just using the group while some Chinese don't like him because he's still loyal to EXO. It's a no win situation for him. Check out Lay's newest solo, "Lit" which is a response to all those haters. His antis call Lay a "white lotus" which means he acts really kind and innocent but is really the opposite. In other words, two faced. The word "Lit" in English kind of sounds like "lotus" in Chinese. The title of his song "Lit" is a play on words. YES they do have a lot of AMAZING R&B songs! Actually they're one of the most versatile group in KPOP, but they do a lot of R&B songs too and EXO is known for their vocals so I think you're gonna like them. EXO-CBX (formed 2016) and EXO-SC (formed 2019) are subunits that formed between EXO members to venture out to other styles or try something new. They are all part of the original EXO lineup that debuted in 2012 - there was no addition of members. EXO-K and EXO-M are simply concepts of EXO releasing songs in the respective languages. You don't have to stress yourself out so much on EXO-K or M.
While the subunits still existed, the two groups made their versions of the songs. Exo-M made the versions of the songs and the MVs in Mandarin and the Exo-K in Korean. However, all members appeared in all MVs, even if it was not the MV of the subunit to which they belonged. And they also sang the versions of the other groups, as in Overdose of the Exo-K version. Not all songs had them singing together but most did. The MVs are also not identical, and it is crucial for someone who wants to be part of the fandom or learn about Exo's history, to watch them. Both Korean and Chinese versions.
The subunits did not form Exo. Exo debuted in 2012 and Exo-CBX which consists of the three member Xiumin, Chen and Baekhyun released an album together as a subunit in 2016, so essentially the three of them debuted as a subunit together again (but they're still a part of Exo). Exo-SC is also a sub-unit consisting of Chanyeol and Sehun and they debuted as a subunit in 2019.

And in this moment they're in the process of military enlistment (the only member who will not enlist is Lay because he's chinese). EXO has 2 subunits. EXO were already EXO...what? Chen, Xiumin and Baekhyun (EXO-CBX) have been in EXO since the beginning they never 'joined' as EXO they were already EXO. Sub-units get added as the years go on, like EXO-SC finally debuted last year aka 2 EXO members wanting to do a different style than 'typical' EXO songs. Also don't stress yourself. EXO-K and EXO-M haven't been 'a thing' since 2014 when Kris (Half Chinese half Canadian) left the group because then it wouldn't be an even 6 in each group. EXO-K had 6 Korean members. EXO-M had 4 Chinese members and 2 Korean (Xiumin and Chen). So since 2014 those 2 sub units haven't been a thing so don't stress yourself and don't worry about those. This is commonly done with larger groups. For example, a group called NCT has 21 members, and they have subunits that have fixed members in them. One of their subunits is called NCT Dream and it is made up of only the youngest members in NCT, members born 2000 and later. NCT's other subunits are NCT U, NCT 127, and WAYV. A subunit is sometimes referred to as just a "unit". *EXO has 4 sub-units.* EXO-CBX which only has Chen, Baekhyun, and Xiumin EXO-SC which only has Chanyeol and Sehun EXO-M Which sings The mandarin versions of EXO’s songs And EXO-K which sings the Korean version of EXO’s songs. Subunits are parts of a bigger group, not smaller groups that came together to form a big one. EXO was already a group, and subunits are just certain members from the group who make their own music.its basically the same thing as a member of a group “going solo”. They’re still part of the group, but they have a solo career as well making their own solo music. *Visual:* as "visual" is a person in a group who is labeled as the most attractive, or closest to the perfect Korean beauty standard. A group can have more than one visual. This is NOT the same thing as a Center. A Visual can be a Center, but they don’t mean the same thing. *Center:* a Center or “face of the group” is the member that is one of the most well known ones and one of the most popular members. EXO used to have 12 members,4 of which were chinese Tao,Luhan,Kris wu,and Lay Them and couple other members made up exo-m (mandarin sub unit) until they decided to continue as exo-k because tao,luhan,and kris wu left sm entertainment and filed lawsuits due to mistreatment but lay stayed but shortly after decided to start his solo career and since china and korea dont have the best relations he decided to spend most of his time in china promoting his solo work which is why he hasnt really been active with exo since around 2018. Also,3 members are currently enlisted in the military xiumin,and d.o went in may and july of 2019 and will return in the beginning of 2021 and shortly after this video was made suho left to serve his time in the military!

Just a clarification. I hope this will make sense because I'm writing this in a hurry before I have to run. It isn't Lay's decision to not participate in EXO activities. It's a political issue and not in his hands. There is tension between Korea & China and it can get complicated to explain. Regardless, China banned K-pop. Lay has an official "position" in the Chinese communist government as some sort of youth ambassador and therefore can't participate with EXO, a Korean group. He would look like a traitor to his country. He has a huge fan base in China and is very successful. Lay gets tons of hate from Chinese and Korean people. There are Koreans who think Lay isn't loyal to EXO and just using the group while some Chinese don't like him because he's still loyal to EXO. It's a no win situation for him.
Check out Lay's newest solo, "Lit" which is a response to all those haters. His antis call Lay a "white lotus" which means he acts really kind and innocent but is really the opposite. In other words, two faced. The word "Lit" in English kind of sounds like "lotus" in Chinese. The title of his song "Lit" is a play on words. He says he's LIT 🔥which is true while making fun of those haters who call him "lit", a white lotus.

Regarding the subunits, EXO is EXO. EXO debuted in 2012. EXO-CBX (formed 2016) and EXO-SC (formed 2019) are subunits that formed between EXO members to venture out to other styles or try something new. They are all part of the original EXO lineup that debuted in 2012 - there was no addition of members.
EXO-K and EXO-M are simply concepts of EXO releasing songs in the respective languages. You don't have to stress yourself out so much on EXO-K or M.

While the subunits still existed, the two groups made their versions of the songs. Exo-M made the versions of the songs and the MVs in Mandarin and the Exo-K in Korean. However, all members appeared in all MVs, even if it was not the MV of the subunit to which they belonged. And they also sang the versions of the other groups, as in Overdose of the Exo-K version. Not all songs had them singing together but most did.
The MVs are also not identical, and it is crucial for someone who wants to be part of the fandom or learn about Exo's history, to watch them. Both Korean and Chinese versions.

[BAEKHYUN] 변백현 = Bee-Yohn Behk-Hee-Yohn (both with the 'ee' sounds blends with the Yohn)

Hi, I'm not to good in writing in English but I'll try to explain what I know about EXO.
They debuted in 2012, with 12 members (8 korean and 4 chinese), 6 in EXO-K (that promotes in Korea and in the rest of the world) and 2 in EXO-M that promotes in China. And yes they used the same song just changing the language and the members.
In 2014 and 2015, 3 chinese members of EXO-M left SM Entertainment. Leaving EXO too. Because of it, EXO-K and EXO-M was undone. Now they're just "EXO", and they're 9 members (8 korean and 1 chinese). And in this moment they're in the process of military enlistment (the only member who will not enlist is Lay because he's chinese).
EXO has 2 subunits.
EXO-CBX (focus on vocal) and EXO-SC (focus on rap).
EXO has 4 members that debuted solo (Lay, Chen, Baekhyun and Suho). And Kai will debut solo soon.

EXO were already EXO...what? Chen, Xiumin and Baekhyun (EXO-CBX) have been in EXO since the beginning they never 'joined' as EXO they were already EXO. Sub-units get added as the years go on, like EXO-SC finally debuted last year aka 2 EXO members wanting to do a different style than 'typical' EXO songs. Also don't stress yourself. EXO-K and EXO-M haven't been 'a thing' since 2014 when Kris (Half Chinese half Canadian) left the group because then it wouldn't be an even 6 in each group. EXO-K had 6 Korean members. EXO-M had 4 Chinese members and 2 Korean (Xiumin and Chen). So since 2014 those 2 sub units haven't been a thing so don't stress yourself and don't worry about those. All u need to know is now there is 8 Koreans and 1 Chinese (And the 3 former members are Chinese). EXO have been 9 since 2015.
I think you must watch old videos of exp where they introduce as 12 so that you can understand them. And also they release music both Korean and Mandarin versions release song that they sing with 12 members like growl and wolf
Since their songs are the same but different languages I suggest you to watch both versions in one video.

*Sub-unit:* a sub-unit is a group of members from a larger group that "break off" and have their own songs on the side, but are still part of the group. This is commonly done with larger groups. For example, a group called NCT has 21 members, and they have subunits that have fixed members in them. One of their subunits is called NCT Dream and it is made up of only the youngest members in NCT, members born 2000 and later. NCT's other subunits are NCT U, NCT 127, and WAYV. A subunit is sometimes referred to as just a "unit".
*EXO has 4 sub-units.*
EXO-CBX which only has Chen, Baekhyun, and Xiumin
EXO-SC which only has Chanyeol and Sehun
EXO-M Which sings The mandarin versions of EXO’s songs
And EXO-K which sings the Korean version of EXO’s songs.
Subunits are parts of a bigger group, not smaller groups that came together to form a big one. EXO was already a group, and subunits are just certain members from the group who make their own music.its basically the same thing as a member of a group “going solo”. They’re still part of the group, but they have a solo career as well making their own solo music.
*Visual:* as "visual" is a person in a group who is labeled as the most attractive, or closest to the perfect Korean beauty standard. A group can have more than one visual. This is NOT the same thing as a Center. A Visual can be a Center, but they don’t mean the same thing.
*Center:* a Center or “face of the group” is the member that is one of the most well known ones and one of the most popular members. This person also does tend to be either a lead or main dancer.
