I heard this song by The National on the radio in 2010 when I was what felt like really far away from home(Ohio) and every time this song came on the indie rock station, it was bittersweet. It made me think of home, which was, at the time, an unreachable destination.
WHEN DID PEOPLE START SINGING LIKE THIS? I left the country for 10 years, and when I came back every chick in every coffee house was singing like she was 6 years old.
+Jesse M i totally agree. Even more because this song one of my favorite songs from The National, and it has become absolute trash with this stupid voice
I think The National's version is the _best_ version, because they wrote it and I do love Matt's voice, but this my _favourite_ version as it can actually make me tear up. I love Julia's voice, and I find it fits really well when paired her brother Angus's voice. You aren't being forced to like or listen to this or her, but keep in mind that people have different tastes. You say BBO is one of your favourite The National songs, but in my opinion is doesn't hold a candle to 90% of their catalogue, but by no means would I tell you that it can't be one of _your_ favourites.
Chris Bird I LOVE Julia but this one one of the bottoms on my list, it’s not her best. You should so check out her other songs. The line that ties me is my favorite song!
I love the original and this cover is outstanding, anything she does is brilliant. I would have really liked to hear it as a duet with Angus. They are the best together!
it's pretty obvious I meant if you hear it and don't like it, then stop searching up and listening to these artists and commenting on how they suck, cause some people like them
Her voice is not good. other than that its a decent cover. its hard to mess up a national cover if you are good layering, imo, thats what the national does best, layering everything so perfectly that it doesnt hit you until the 4th or 5th listen.
tough love is how people get better.. its not that shes not talented but i feel a disconnect with this song up to 3:00 was the worst i think to cover a song you have to be able to write it or own it in your own style.. does she even know what a blood buzz is? or the intensity of a swarm of bees plz don't respond if your under 20 have a crush on her or like anything just because
Oh man oh man do I hate that cover!! She sounds like a chipmunk? When I hear her voice all can think is....fallow the yellow brick road, follow the yellow brick road!! lol
Actually, as I've recently found out, bloodbuzz doesn't mean anything murdery - it refers to the warm feeling you get when seeing something deeply familiar. Or so I've gathered.
It's a cheesy twee version but the tune is too good to be ruined by anyone who can't sing anyway. Fair play to her. And besides, I'd rather see her "lift her shirt up" than Matt Berninger.
Robert Hall you don’t need to express your feelings in a hurtful and rude manner. Actually, if you don’t like it you don’t have to say anything at all. If you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything at all. But personally I love her voice, she is my favourite singer.
L AMQ Maybe?I did forget to capitalize the T in the.I will not argue with you though,The National covered it so well, that it is the original.P.S. If you ever travel by a swarm of bees, make sure you bring your Epipen.I flew to the non Ohio,Toledo that way and I regret not bringing one.
icelandmoon you're so full of shit, a simple google search will reveal the names of the songwriters, and... surprise!!! Matt Berninger (singer of The National), Aaron Desner (guitarist of The National) & Padma Newsome. But I think it's pretty obvious for anybody with a little sensitivity that The National's version is the original, they would never cover such a mainstream boring artist as Julia Stone, and this song's got The National's particular imprint all over the place anyway...

good artist singing a song from a good artist.
Love Julia. And for those who say her voice isn't good doesn't know who she is or her type of music. Her and Angus are perfect.
yup!

Listen to Carry Me Ohio by Sun Kil Moon. You'll thank me later
@@ggthewhale that song is f'n epic. But this is too.
That feeling when one of your favorite artists covers another one of your favorite artists
Yep it's a great cover I love her voice
The National's keyboardist plays on Julia's new album and has also produced it.
The drumpart is sadly basic compearing to the original but the other parts of this cover sounds good
Beautifull, respectfull version. She has such a special, sexy voice.
Although I prefer the outstanding original ...
sorry but i like this one

+Jesse M So before you left every chick sounded like she was -4 years old. What are the vocals of eggs and sperm like.I bet they sound quite ethereal.
+Renato Silveira Feitoza stupid voice your ass fucking hater :v
+Jesse M I KNOW RIGHT!!!

oh look it's my future sister in law :-)
As someone who hasn't ever heard this song. I think this is great...
Chris Bird I LOVE Julia but this one one of the bottoms on my list, it’s not her best. You should so check out her other songs. The line that ties me is my favorite song!
I didn't even know this wasn't the orignal song! I love her voice it's so unique
I love the original and this cover is outstanding, anything she does is brilliant. I would have really liked to hear it as a duet with Angus. They are the best together!
It's ok to feel a disconnect. We really care. We do.
my favourite National song covered by my favourite artist, what is this perfection?!?!?
I was just looking for someone to say that. TOTALLY AGREE! Oh Land rules! :3
Love this. She is so gifted!!
Masterpiece
I like Julia and i kind of like this version, but the drum pattern is a bit generic, compared to the original's driving, synchopated, asymmetric beat.
i love the original but she dose it justice, i love it
She ruined it! This cover is AWFUL. It doens't do the original any justice. AT ALL!!!
This song is Radiohead/Beatles quality. A doo wop group or a bluegrass band could cover it and it wouldn't suck. I like this version.
Like this version. sounds much sweet compared to the original. one has to get use to her voice... it's kind of odd but not bad at all.
thankyou for uploading these !
it's pretty obvious I meant if you hear it and don't like it, then stop searching up and listening to these artists and commenting on how they suck, cause some people like them
moi aussi je veux bien qu'elle m'épouse pour la version par contre la chanson originale de the national défonce et le clip aussi
Her voice is not good. other than that its a decent cover. its hard to mess up a national cover if you are good layering, imo, thats what the national does best, layering everything so perfectly that it doesnt hit you until the 4th or 5th listen.

Truly amazing :)
Oh man oh man do I hate that cover!! She sounds like a chipmunk? When I hear her voice all can think is....fallow the yellow brick road, follow the yellow brick road!! lol
Who in their right minds thumbs down this?????? It's my fave national song, this is just beautiful ❤
I think this version is much better, the other singer has a boring voice.
Whats wrong cant deal with something thats not main stream she is unique and in this world of gabbage music thats something special
Wow, my favourite national song sung so beautifully ❤
Well-said.
so beautiful her voice is amazing
Victoria Williams, anybody?
then don't listen, some people like it.
wow, this works. . . well done Julia
Was just gonna point that out as well :)
Appreciate the use of the insult 'fruitcake' :)
Remember my name when this gets famous
JOY OF JULIA.
Instant love bigtime.🔥
Last cover that gave me this feeling. ua-cam.com/video/t7X9MC_M8ZI/v-deo.html
Whatever, 'this' is....
Gross
Burnt them eggs
I'm not sure if hearing a baby voice singing ´I'm on a blood buzz` kills the song or makes it even creepier....
Actually, as I've recently found out, bloodbuzz doesn't mean anything murdery - it refers to the warm feeling you get when seeing something deeply familiar. Or so I've gathered.
Who'da thought...thanks for that piece of information. But either way, I prefer the OV to the cover.
that's a given, Ntnl is so awesome
Matt berninger could sing her song "And the boy" It could be great
It's a cheesy twee version but the tune is too good to be ruined by anyone who can't sing anyway. Fair play to her. And besides, I'd rather see her "lift her shirt up" than Matt Berninger.
i would have to listen to this a few times to truly enjoy this cover...
why cover such a lame song?
awful, truly
lmao...
fucking terrible.
One of the best chipmunk covers I've heard.
One of the worst voices I've heard.
Robert Hall you don’t need to express your feelings in a hurtful and rude manner. Actually, if you don’t like it you don’t have to say anything at all. If you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything at all. But personally I love her voice, she is my favourite singer.
I prefer the National's Cover of this song better. Not all originals are the best.
icelandmoon are your drunk? The National's version is the original.
Either you, sir (lady), are one of the best trolls this side of the moon or this is a grave misunderstanding.
icelandmoon you're so full of shit, a simple google search will reveal the names of the songwriters, and... surprise!!! You have the tastes connected with your esfinter
BARF! Next time sing it like an adult human.
J M you don’t need to express your feelings in a hurtful and rude manner. Actually, if you don’t like it you don’t have to say anything at all. If you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything at all. But personally I love her voice, she is my favourite singer.
I love her voice. Keep your hate to yourself mate!
Oh Land's cover is so much better.
This song is vastly improved by a female singer.Lift that shirt, lift it up.
Total abomination, this. The girl should stick to Norah Jones' covers if she absolutely must sing.
But I like her abominable sounds :(
