      clowntrooper61 , I was really more impressed with the love story meets sci fishing aspect of it. There are all kinds of "Hero loves Alien Queen" sci fi takes. The way the story made the extraordinary (futuristic tech) seem ordinary, and the ordinary love story seem bigger than life is a juxtaposition that's typically outside the realm of most sci fi writing.

    I love this show. I love Brooker's use of the phrase "worrying". I consider this show to be a perfect commentary on humanity today. While he says there hasn't been a PM blackmailed into a Baconback Mountin' scenario, the rubbernecking of society caught up in the mirror, glued to their television for their own differing reasons for watching... that is true. He's takes a perfectly feasible if not fantastic sideways glace at what humans feel is more important in their life... which is technology, despite it not necessarily being the bad guy, in some cases it's certainly the addiction the main character is wrestling with. i hope there are more.
    A part of me felt like the Christmas Special was a fleshing out of some of his previous episodes, it was still poignant and frightening. I hope there's a third series on the horizon. I need more sci-fi like this...

    A Claude glass (or black mirror) is a small mirror, slightly convex in shape, with its surface tinted a dark colour. Bound up like a pocket-book or in a carrying case, Claude glasses were used by artists, travelers and connoisseurs of landscape and landscape painting. Claude glasses have the effect of abstracting the subject reflected in them from its surroundings, reducing and simplifying the colour and tonal range of scenes and scenery to give them a painterly quality.

    Charlie Brooker has been my hero since I was about 9 (well, it was him and Noel Gallagher,) and I started reading the pile of PC Zone magazines kept in our bathroom in true dad fashion. Before long I'd skim them to read everything he'd written, regardless of whether I'd heard of the game being reviewed or even liked the genre. It wasn't even funny half the time, just straightforward reviews, just there was something about his writing style I loved - and when it WAS funny, it was hysterical. I still think TV Go Home is the funniest, most well-written thing ever. Obviously he's done lots more, and now this! Amazing. In some ways I feel quite perturbed that something once only I knew about has found mainstream success (I have the same problem with Muse) - but it's inspirational too.

      Thanks for your input. I thought the same and the amount of comments positively applauding the episode yet the video not having anything to do with it started having me feel like I was in an episode of Black Mirror myself.

    so Charlie has now predicted 2 things...sort of, the first being the Brazilian prison and the second being the Prime Minister shagging a pig (though the second one wasn't a national broadcast)

    • @MythicSuns
      @MythicSuns 6 років тому +14

      Yiorch your English is fine, though I am having trouble understanding if you're asking what "shagging" means or if you're just straight up asking if the British prime minister "got busy" with a pig. luckily I can answer both questions: it was found out fairly recently that during some sort of initiation at a university the British prime minister had sex with a dead pig

      yeah it was kind of eerie how Charlie predicted something years in advance with at least 80 to 90% accuracy. the sad irony is that David Cameron might've got more respect if he'd fucked the dead pig to save a member of the Royal Family but nope...instead he fucked a dead pig because his university buddies pressured him to do it

    I swear that the resolution of the episode felt exactly like what I experienced when I had a really bad trip on acid. I'm just 18 and it was frightening as hell, now I'm still suspicious about whether I'm inside some sort of "psychological private simulation" made just for me or not... quite a scary thought

  • @ufotofu9

    well, this interview really enlightened the viewing of the show. I think the mark of a good writer is that even in the world he created, he doesn't fully know the motivations of all of the characters or the concept. Like when he says he doesn't know exactly why and 15 million merits the recycling, and that he assumes it's because they're powering their own screens, but maybe it's because they're creating electricity for other consumption, is very interesting. And I never really thought of the title in the way that he explains it, but now that I know, it's just brilliant.

    Brilliant show.
    I thought the meaning of the title Black Mirror was that we as watchers of the series were looking at a mirror of our society, only darker, more cruel and horrible.
    Sort of as a warning: this could happen if we go on like this

It's even available here on youtube, get back at me when you've seen episode 3 with the CEO on the ginger beer stool scene 🤣. Amazing creativity and foreseeing abilities.

    Whatever bad thing the main character did no longer matters, because what happened to him was worse. By torturing him, they cancelled out the bad that he did. That's the moral of the story.
