I (finally) built a super awesome bicycle trailer.
I'm very happy with this trailer design; it's strong, light and very cheap to make!
I used red cedar and Guanacaste but you can use any wood for the whole trailer as long as you put on adequate protection, for example - mahogany would be nice (but it's heavier).
Some woods are more rot resistant than the others but common pine (widely available) should serve you just fine.
Avoid knots and cross wood grain!
The trailer dimensions: base 70x70cm (square) and the box is L70 W45 H40.
For the base use 2 cm thick material and for the box you can go as thin as you want to (mine is 1 cm thick material).
Check out the Instructable on the trailer:

    • @AndreaArzensek

+Chiquis Saucedog You can always click on the wheel on the video and change speed of the video, also when needed you can push pause button. I recommend that you watch the video few times to get the idea of construction better. Also in the description of the video you can find the link to the Instructables I made so this might be helpful as well. I will consider your comment about making slower videos. Thank you for watching and for your input. Cheers!

Great video! That looked like a lot of work, especially making the metal parts. I thought for sure you had spend more than two days on it. I always use two nuts tightened to each other. That way I don't have to worry at all about things coming loose.

aqwood Thank you! You're right, metal working took a lot of time, but it's the most vital part of the trailer (with the frame). It took me about 10 hrs to finish the trailer (not including lacquer drying time and Barbara's paint job,).

Hello from Brasil. How much you paid for the "Kreg-Jig". Here in Brasil its about 400 U$ (1200 Reais). It is a very helpful tool.

Ted Bay Holly Molly 400,00 USD???!!! Talk about rip-off in Latin countries! It is a great tool for certain kind of joinery and very fast, too. I paid mine around 160 dollars but that was a rip-off too....in Mexico they say ''ni modo'' which translates to: There is nothing you can do about it! Cheers Ted!

Thank you. The wood is relatively heavy, but that was what I had on hand.
You can make it lighter with aluminium construction and a plastic box.
      No charm then...

dobrý video spíš dobry nápad ale určitě mínus za technologické zpracování protože použit kreg na spárovku (laťovku) je zbytečný a par maličkostí se najde určitě ale jak říkám nápad a konečná práce je dobrá

Nice.... I went with pine boards for my trailer build but I regret it, it’s so heavy... 33 lbs! I used the frame of an old Bell child carrier... I should’ve went with cedar... :( I believe it is much lighter...

    • @AndreaArzensek
      @AndreaArzensek  4 роки тому

It is lighter than pine but not by much. Mine was about 13 kg. The lightest while being cheap would be aluminum for the base and something light for the box like fiberglass or even paulownia wood. But that would beat the purpose of making it out of wood and basic metal pieces.
      Greetings from Croatia

It may sound weird, though I made a seat post-mounted bicycle cart using a trashcan tote/cart ...it really didn't require any lengthy sophistication, except for a few mods here & there, and I figured if it can haul 2 full-weighted trashcans ...then not only can it haul one's gear successfully, though depending on the size of the rider, it can also act as a sleeper/camper for the rider as-well ;)
