    Just barely beat in ear, it looks like. Still a great Checkmate performance. Love the baffle features!

      Agreed. We think there would be a slight positive change in performance if we didn't use this can for past testing/demo shoots. Nevertheless, it was tested in this state for a reason 🇺🇸

    I've been using (and recommending to my customers) Griffin products for a while now and I respect that you didn't skew the testing until you came out on the very top. Some companies would do that. Obviously you have another top-level performer from a top-level company run by top-level people. Great stuff.

    Nice to see my sparrow still holding up to new products. I have an Optimus Micro on my PS-90, and a 30-SD for my ARs. I love the gate-lok QD system. Keep on innovating the science.

    Sparrow getting it done on a rifle again..Suppressed Nation had a test a while back that showed the same.For a dedicated rifle can it's hard to beat.
    For an all around can though looks like the Checkmate is awesome.

    I just ordered the Checkmate HD yesterday, can't wait to get it!
    But I did have a question for GA: is there anyway you can test the AAC Element 3?
    On the AAC website they are claiming an SPL of "110dB Right Ear A Weight*" the "*" being "Ruger Precision, CCI Subsonic 40gr" for a "47dB" reduction.
    If you can't test it can you at least give some quick thoughts on that? Thanks!

    I think it is not only about amount of decibels but also about sound's frequency. High pitched sounds seem sound louder or at least more noticeable then middle and low ones.

    For baseline, you should have also recorded the sound of the 15-22 action cycling. It's all I hear when I use my suppressors

    Trigger reset on S&W MP15-22 was almost as loud as the supressed report. Interesting.🤔

    • @GriffinArmamentOfficial
      @GriffinArmamentOfficial  Рік тому +1

      The hollow glass-filled plastic receiver is very loud on the reset with the OEM supplied trigger. We saw a post where this bothered somebody so much that they replaced the trigger on their M&P15-22 to reduce the overall noise. It doesn't bother us enough.

      @@GriffinArmamentOfficial It's acting like an acoustic resonating chamber, much like the resin body of an Ovation acoustic guitar. The most effective approach is to do something to dampen the resonating cavity. Custom car stereo shops use a soft (almost gooey) foil backed vinyl sheeting applied to the interior of the sheet metal to dampen rattling and buzzing of the panels. I recently had to place my CPAP on a soft closed cell foam sheet because the enclosed wood shelf was acting as a resonant cavity amplifying the noise of the CPAP, excellent results. Maybe a few strips of the adhesive dampening sheet in different lengths and widths placed at random on the receiver would help. The various sizes and placement of the pieces help with broadband audio resonant suppression. See Helmholtz effect.

    Love the DA and the Griffen. Both great cans. If they were fouled up with around 50-100 rounds each they’d be even quieter I bet. Another test maybe 😜

    You forgot the test on a bolt action rifle. Remove the action noise and things get spooky quiet.

    I sort of regret buying a Ruger Silent-SR and was looking to get a Mask, but with only a fraction of a percent worse performance (which I guarentee no ones ear is going to pick up) AND the ability to use the Cam-Lok system I'm definetly gonna price out a Checkmate now.

    Test it against oss RAD 22

    • @austingreen3888
      @austingreen3888 Рік тому +2

      The rad 22 is like 1.2" diameter. That's a significantly larger can. Iraq veteran 8888 tested it here ua-cam.com/video/FwcXuAKc1xU/v-deo.html and it was louder. MAC tested it too, but only on a rifle, and his meter is slower than a 2209 so its probable it tested differently with MAC because of the slower 35us rise of the B&K digital handheld meter.

    Pewscience data when?

    • @austingreen3888
      @austingreen3888 Рік тому +4

      Probably never. We produce the most data of anyone in suppressor testing. You have 3 mic locations, A averages, Z peaks, A weighted dosing, AHAAH ARU dosing, LEAQ (average A weighted DB) LEQ (average unweighted DB), Pressure time waveforms, and the report of where the peak occurred in time. That's an unprecedented amount of data to use to make your own decisions.

    • @austingreen3888
      @austingreen3888 Рік тому +3

      @@heisman01 We run the analyzer at the maximum sampling speed it is capable of. Our raw wave forms are analyzed by AHAAH and the ahaah waveform is published. That's what we are showing in the video- the AHAAH analyzed raw wave forms.

    2 things:
    1, your sample rate in the spreadsheet is 131kHz (not 252kHz like you claimed or 192kHz as required by mil std/AHAAH)
    2, you’re not recording your measurements in the free field as is required by AHAAH

    • @GriffinArmamentOfficial
      @GriffinArmamentOfficial  Рік тому +22

      4.7.5.2 Recording equipment for impulsive noise. Equipment for capturing and storing
      impulsive noise shall have a minimum of 16-bit resolution, with 24-bit resolution preferred, and
      a sampling rate of a minimum of 192,000 samples per second. The recording equipment meets this requirement. The equipment is also operating at maximum speed in the conduct of these measurements. We ran this by Bruel and Kjaer and they have done extensive work with NATO partners and the 1474E requirements and their opinion was that this testing as they set it up, is 1474E compliant, which is where AHAAH leans for the requirements.
