Thats because in ancient times (Im talking about right before the Chinese Three Kingdoms period, Southern Han/Han Chinese who migrated to southern China from northern China (this wouldve been like 300-400 BC) had settled and intermingled with the Hue/or local tribal ethnicity in southern China before the Han rose to prominence (Han chinese started out as a minority but grew threw assimilation, trade, and partnership intermarriages with the local Hue). In contrast- the Hue tribes of southern China spoke a language more akin to Cantonese/Hakka languages today, but ethno-culturally, the Hundred Tribes of Hue they called themselves (Bai Hue/Yue) were much more closer to the Nan Hue or Southern Hue tribes which present day homeland is Vietnam. So we can say a possibility why Cantonese and Hakka languages are possibly closer to Vietnames is that in ancient times, aside from Han DNA primarily, they also shared common DNA with the ancestors of the Vietnamese.

vietnamese is similar to cantonese because the south china used to be apart of the many 'yue' tribes yue was the (one of many) term that han chinese used to describe the Viet people. Viet is the correct and original name. it is no suprise that the vietnamese and cantonese sound similar with 6 tones, we shared a close ancestry, we are brothers and sisters.

Cantonese and Vietnamese are of different origin, one is Chinese language, the other is Austroasiatic family. However, some Vietnamese words were adopted from Chinese (Cantonese & mandarin), hence some similarity. But the grammar and sentence structure are different. E.g. Viet people can understand a lot of word in canto and canto can definitely understand a lot of word in viet ( even better when learning because canto people can learn viet faster than anyone else just like how viet people like me learn canto which is actually not hard compare to English and mandarin ) because almost half of the viet language is from Cantonese. Vietnam also borrow a lot of cuss word too ( I know because I study canto many year ago and speak good enough ) for example the word : dã man , đo Vo học, đeo , thằng mặt lồn. same exactly like canto and people use it often when cussing. if a Vietnam person said that word they can understand it.

People in Guangdong and Guangxi probably have more similar DNA to Burmese people than with Vietnamese people as do the rest of the Han Chinese, because Han Chinese and Burmese are ethnically close to Han Chinese and they both belong to the Sino Tibetan language family despite Burma not being culturally recognizable to Chinese. Modern day Vietnamese have nothing to do with Baiyue, this is a lie said by Vietnamese to make themselves feel important when in fact Vietnamese came from Southern Vietnam and what was then the Khmer culture. Vietnamese have nothing to do with Baiyue, the Baiyue civilization went extinct way before modern day Vietnamese who were Khmer peopme came to Northern Vietnam. Cantonese and Guangxi do not speak the same language at all, Cantonese belongs to the Sino Tibetan language family, some Guangxi people like the Zhuang speak the Tai language family, nothing remotely similar to what Vietnamese speak. Vietnamese celebrate Chinese New Year (which they rebranded as Tet) and stole the Ao Dai which was from the Ming Dynasty, 85% of their food was copied from China and they are one of the most jealous people of China that have a chip on their shoulder about China when without the Chinese culture modern Vietnam wouldn't exist. I think the Vietnamese should abandon their stealing of Chinese culture and embrace their Khmer culture they were before rebranding what they stole from Chinese culture. They are after more similar to Khmer people that even people from Guangdong and Guangxi are more similar to Koreans than they are to Vietnamese 😂😂
