Back in Medieval England, it was said that "A Longbow at full draw is a Longbow 9/10ths broken".
Toxophilists in Victorian times using "modern" style bows repeated that "A drawn wooden bow is 9/10ths broken".
Today we have advanced crossbows using limbs made with advanced technology and exotic materials (relatively speaking) and these now also seem to be 9/10ths broken when drawn/cocked.
The more things change the more they seem to stay the same it would seem. 😊
    Great video by the way.

Good afternoon, hope all is well I have a killer instinct ripper 425 and was extremely fond of it, was being the correct word. I’ve watched most of your videos and pod cast so o want to say you’re doing a great job! Now back to the word was. I be taken good care of the 425 made sure I used arrows that were 600 or mor grains in weight to help the limb problem and all was good so I thought but sadly my 425 cracked a limb only after 9 months of use and maintenance during and after shooting, but I can’t get ahold of ki on the phone or by email or any other method so it’ll probably be the last ki I ever buy. I’m glad you have good success with them but for me they’re customer service is terrible, but please keep up the good work on your videos and pod casts

Great video Matt! I shoot heavier weight arrows than factory and use vibrating dampeners to try and preserve my limbs. I've still had 4 limb failures for various reasons. One was on me...dry fire. I can't be 100% sure about the others but one I believe was fault of limb manufacturer, one was the bow manufactures process of coating the limbs and one was a bow stressed to it's limits. It's amazing how close these bows can be to their max. 1/16" ATA cocked can be all it takes to put a bow over its limits. Again, great video Matt! Appreciate you. 👍

Thank you, Jim! I also had a limb failure that traced back to the limb supplier. It sucks but the crossbow manufacturer made things right 👍

Awesome video Matt! I also shoot heavier bolts and broad heads 500 grain and up. I have had two cross bow limb failures one on my Lethal 415 and one on my Ripper 425. Both repaired promptly under warranty by KI. It’s my opinion it’s the Qaulity of the limb from who ever the manufactures are buying them from. Both limb fractures occurred in the exact same place. Qaulity assurance has gone way down since Covid 19.

After all the things I've seen and heard on crossbows and the expense of the equipment and repairs and replacement parts, is it it really worth it? I see longevities of a crossbow are anywhere from a season to a very few years.
You have done a great job on all 3 videos and these should be seen by everyone thinking about buying a crossbow, education is power.

A brand like Mission comes to mind. A baby brother of Mathews who has an established reputation of quality in the bow world. The crossbows are as made in the USA as possible. Some companies "assemble in the USA" but import the same China stuff. Mission CNC's much of its parts in house. There is a video on here somewhere showing a factory tour. Just have a few sets of strings and cables, lots of arrows and you are good to kill well into the apocalypse.
The price for what you seek is very high. However, with Mission and a few other brands... You are supporting USA jobs, buying the best quality possible, having a solid warranty to back any issues you encounter and lots of dealer support all over the place.
You can't chase the most modern cocking system, the highest FPS, the shortest or lightest unit, some newest thing or the lowest price.
      But...
YOU CAN BUY A RELIABLE CROSSBOW! In order of my opinion its Mission, Excalibur and Ten Point.

I wanted to get a KI Swat X1, bit it with all the reports of the limbs cracking. Some people say they have had to get new limbs 3 times in one year! That’s too much money to deal with those issues. Im thinking about just doing the “buy once, cry once” and just buying a higher end 10 Point.

Did you make a decision on the bow? I have had a Ripper 425 that's been great but it's hard to trust it with daily/weekly reports of them failing. KI is the doorway to crossbows so many newbs will blow up KI crossbows... Still, bad taste in the mouth and all with limb reliability. Despite the fear of explosion, I was shooting eight-inch groups last week at 100 yards with the Ripper 425.
I went from a relatively low end with the Ripper 425 to a damn nice top end Mission Sub1 XR. The Mission was shooting five-to-six-inch groups. So better than the KI but not God like. Arrows had a lot to do with it. Shooting 100 yards I wanted to use some cheaper arrows in case things went bad.
Anyways... have you bought once and cried yet? I did and it was nice. I no longer fear injury when shooting and know I have a great warranty if it ever does come to it.

I've had a ki for two years now and after shooting their hyper light bolts that come in the package I went with a heavier arrow weight. Instead of the 390 grain total weight i shoot 425 grain total weight and have had no problems with my limbs and still get around 395 ft per second out of my fierce 405 bc.

So far so good using heavier bolts with my ki Lethal 405 have been a good combination. Caught a friend not properly seating nocks against the string . Stubborn rascal was sure that wouldn't make a difference . Sad to say it did

Hey great video. I just ordered the Vital x after watching your videos. My question is, I plan on still using the HYPR Lite bolts. So I should use the 450 grain? Or what brand bolt and grain are you using in your Vital x? Thanks for your videos.

I personally shoot the Sirius Phoenix arrows, 110 grain insert and 150 grain point to be in the 500 grain ball park. I also shoot KI HYPRs with 110 grain inserts/150 heads. I shoot that combo on every crossbow I have. Love the Sirius Phoenix, but understand many don’t like the price tag. If that’s you, I’d buy some HYPR KEs and run those with 150 grain points.

Didn't you have a K.I. Ripper 415 ? it's noted to of limb failure. I have a K.I. Ripper 415 and 425 and from day one shoot heavier bolts ! I believe if you shoot lighter bolts it's like dry firing the crossbow

Yup I did have a ripper 415, my buddy has it now. I did have a limb crack on that bow (which KI traced back to an issue from their limb supply on some of the first rippers). Loved that bow, still one of my favorites!

Hello, I ask you. I use my Killers Instinct SWAT I shoot it for unload and then when I return to the mountain from 1:00 to 5:30 I have it loaded again until I leave and come back and shoot to unload. That hurts the Lims.

    Yes Sir well put.
Myself i don't see how they last to begin with. Especially recurve style. You go out hunting get in wood daylight comes cock ur cbow ok see nothing,or just cant get shot. Then heading off hill and get back truckur cbow been cocked all day. How is that good. IDK. But great video and do you prefer recurve style single string, or compound.

AI says some folks have had success adding fiberglass to their limbs to reinforce them. Any thoughts or experience anyone?

    • @draggindeeroutdoors
      @draggindeeroutdoors  24 дні тому

All crossbows limbs are fiberglass already, be it some type of lamination process or compression molding.
