Earlier this month, Frederick Forsyth’s seminal thriller The Day of The Jackal celebrated its 50th anniversary. Although the story itself is fictitious, it feels as real as any documentary - the novel actually opens with a description of a real-life attempt on French president Charles de Gaulle’s life.
