Watching this, it's clear to me: Nate, you are a born vlogger. You've always been a natural. Those first "video diaries" were great! For someone who had never done it before, you took to it like a fish to water. Thank you so much for sharing the earliest videos with us! ❤
I was being amazed by the complexity of the mileage run and then I became even more amazed at the effects with the globe. I don't know how you guys do it, it's so cool. Love watching your videos, they got me through my final exams and I just graduated with a First Class Honours Biomedical Science degree and top of my class. You guys don't know it (which sounds kinda creepy when I'm writing it) but you guys seriously got me through those last months, I just watched your videos all the time while "studying". Lots of love from Ireland
+Rob H92 well first of all congrats on graduating with honors with such an impressive degree! I'm sure that was NOT easy, and I'm so happy to know we could be a small part of it! :) -Kara
Kara and Nate thank you guys so much for all the work you put into the videos, I can't imagine how much that requires. Thanks for the kind comment too. Wishing you all the best and of course, safe travelling (and lots of nice coffee) x
pre-COVID, my husband travelled extensively for work. Mileage runs were common during the Holiday’s for us so he would keep his status. Some years, they were short, some years, they were across the country.
This was the first video of yours that I ever watched, back about 3 months ago. I got hooked and have watched every video up to here. I will continue binge watching your videos until I’m completely caught up, but this was fantastic! Super concise and easy to understand even though the story had so many components. Thank you so much for sharing how you do what you do! It’s very helpful especially when so little spoken information was available for so long.
I have jet lag just watching this. It made so much more sense and understandable on how to obtain large number of miles. Than the credit card mileage program
I love learning (1) the math, (2) the mileage run education (sort of and I’ll DM you to inquire your help), (3) the destination or airport education, (4) the immigration education, (5) the most important part, the wonderful vlog! I’m going to get the travel education to truly soak and digest this knowledge and to fulfill my own experiences and one of my life goals!!! Nate, you and Kara truly inspire me and after watching sooo many of your travel vlogs I feel like I have truly seen the world and can actually experience a travel destination dream of mine as well!! Have you guys gone to Tahiti or any South Pacific destination yet? Thank you for your wonderful UA-cam videos!!!!
I've heard of airlines realising they have sold fares in error, and have refused to honour them. One very large European airline did this a few years back, making mileage collectors very unhappy. I'm glad it worked for you! :-)
You guys would real awesome to hang out with. Those mileage runs are a real test of a person's physical, mental & emotional strength. It's amazing at how much you learn on one's self and the other person you travel with. Have done a few mileage runs myself & recently completed my run to get One World Emerald status in 5 days of flying. Totally agree with you that I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Safe travels guys.
Awesome video! Can't wait for you guys to start travelling again!!!! I've watched all of your vlogs and absolutely love your genuine kindness and amazing adventurous spirit!!! You both are the BEST travel vloggers on UA-cam :) :) :)
I’ve just discovered you a couple of weeks ago, doing research for my first solo trip in years to Siem Reap. You guys are such an inspiration, I’m doing catching up in the past weeks to see what you guys have been up to. I’m planning to start my own travel channel, which is my passion, and I hope I can get to be as good as you guys are, ❤️.
Nate, Even if you think this vid wasn't so great, not all of us agree with you. I am impressed that you did it by yourself. I am about to go to asia in 8 months. Lots of travel transfers and strangeness. I am not used to traveling where I don't know the language. Traveling alone does make me anxious. You have given me some comfort. I will try to figure out how to spend 2k to get 4K worth of travel and experience. Thanks for the inspiration. I do wonder if my 73 yr old body will hold up as well as your 20 something constitution.
Just got my first travel reward credit card in the mail (capital one venture card)! I've always contemplated getting one since I do travel A LOT but you guys have for sure been inspiration to that. Thanks for not only sharing your adventures but going out of your way to share how it can be possible to make it happen!
This adventure was BANANAS! I didn't even know this was a thing but I might have to research it in a few years when I retire and traveling becomes my main focus.
Hi! We just found your channel and subscribed. We absolutely LOVE to travel, but 92,000 miles in 2 weeks is absolutely CRAZY! We recently found tickets from Anchorage, Alaska (where we live) to Paris, France for $450 roundtrip. It would have made a great mileage run, but we turned it into a great Paris vacation!
This was so great to watch Nate (and Kara)! Such an interesting story and so many great laughs while watching it. You did a fantastic job putting it together. I wish out part of the world (we're from New Zealand) had better options for earning points and miles etc. Great video guys! - Thomas
Nate, it’s actually nice to see where you started video production wise. These days y’all are so professional about it :-). Thanks for sharing and for your genuine, contagious enthusiasm
You guys are amazing and so inspirational. I love your travel videos but I also love videos like these - so helpful, interesting and informative. It sucks because I'm a Brit so the cards you usually mention wouldn't help me at all as I can't get them. However I still love watching these vids and it encourages me to see if I can find a decent UK alternate way travel hack. Happy travelling, guys!
Well done and very interesting. I worked in HK for 14 years and can assure you many of us spent many nights wandering streets and restaurants when having short turnarounds and also during typhoon seasons when transport and accom was difficult and a very safe place for all.
One thing I wonder about is clearing customs and immigration multiple times in two weeks. Were you ever asked questions about your intentions and visiting plans upon arrival? Sadly, there are many places where your travel pattern would be misunderstood. Did any of the officials suspect you of illegal activities? How did you handle their questions?
When stopping between international flights you typically don't deal with customs. Most international airports have customa set up when you are leavingving the international flights area. At least that was case when I was backpacking in South america.
you have a great point. i flew syd-akl-hnl, and was detained at akl airport for about two hours because of my itinerary...it was a ridiculous scenario ,and the people in the detention area were horrible...all because i saved money on the itinerary.
Very interesting! Obviously not for your casual tourist, but fun to know what can be done if you put your mind to it. I'm really curious how you made those awesome flight animations. What program did you use for those?
I am Australian and lived in Sao Paulo for 6 years and never had a problem, it's an amazing place to visit/ live as is Brasil in general. I'm a new subscriber and really enjoy your videos.P.S. Brasil Is 3 to 1 ( Three woman to one man..... )
William James Not really... much safer than Fortaleza or Belo Horizonte or even Rio, especially if you stick to the touristy areas like the Avenida Paulista (and don’t do anything dumb).
Wow, just found your vlogs, hello from the jk!! What a great adventure you two have been on.... as I say I’m new so im clinging on for the ride, love from South Yorkshire England!
This is crazy high quality! Which one of your cameras is it filmed on? As a "poor college student", you guys are my main source of entertainment. I sit back and relax in a cafe, drink my crappy $1 fuel, and binge watch your vlogs. They make my day :)
There is something about people taking all these resources to do mileage runs that seem so futile. For what? To get airline status so you can sleep on a plane and eat a meal... do what you want but to think of what other people really go through in life just to eat a meal or sleep in a regular bed. I know this maybe an unpopular comment but I hope some people who do mileage runs take their money and help others instead.
Y'all did an AWESOME job with this video -- it explains everything very well! And we especially liked the globe animation... that helped a LOT! (I'm going to snoop around Ripa to see if anyone here is cooking ears. Sounds interesting.)
Next time try getting British Airways Executive Club Gold Status. It´s way easier to obtain(Way faster than earning 100k Miles on American Airlines). Go for a Europe to Hawaii Trip next time maybe together with Kara. Fly Brussels-Helsinki-London Heathrow then London City-New York(All Business Class Airbus A318 from British Airways)-Los Angeles-Hawaii(doesn´t matter which Airport in Hawaii). This should cost about 1400$ per Person and bring you to 1160/1500 points needed for the Gold Status. You can add a Transcontinental flight on AA in First Class(for 210 points each) to complete your Mileage Run. Have fun on your travels and planning this Mileage Run. Would love to see you do that :)
Do you book this as one round trip or multi-city trip? I cannot see anything less than $4k any way I try and build your suggested route. Many thanks for any helpful info.
Thank you, Nate, for sharing this information with the rest of us. In addition to a "like" button, there should be a "LOVE" button. Are airlines still offering mistake fares (by mistake, of course.)? I thought I had read something about some refusals to honor them.
Wow, you just had me focused for the entire video. It was so interesting. I kinda lost it at "besides being crazy" though :D. And Nate your vlogging wasn't bad at all during your mileage run!
I just watched the entire story too. Have been wondering about these details for a long time now. I've arrived here after starting at the very first vlog and watching in order for the last several weeks. Incredibly enjoyable content. Best in the business
I admire you Nate, this shows how passionate you were to your dream and you both definitely deserve the success you have with this channel! Followed you guys for years now but this year started re-watching your journey from the beginning
Watching a old you but a goodie tonight.💕💕 my husband is already retired policeman. But hopefully we will beable one day fingers crossed to pull something like this off .he doesn't know it yet.🤣😂 but im putting it on the bucket list.thank you and happy safe travels
I was able to buy (and fly on) a 1 USD flight from Kuala Lumpur to Kathmandu back in 2013. There was a massive glitch in one of the bigger Asian airlines' systems.

It's definitely harder now than it used to be, but if you fly on partner airlines and credit your miles to a domestic airline (AA, UA, DL) you can still earn frequent flyer miles based on miles flown!
I think you need to point out which airlines those are. Basically SkyMiles and partners are out. For American one should credit to Alaskan or Etihad. Use this website to give guidance: www.wheretocredit.com. I like the video but the year you did this was the last year, one could do mileage runs. American AAdvantage is suffering greatly with credit card signups because the miles are almost unusable. American is releasing hardly any award seats. Congrats 👏 on getting status. As I tell people...status sounds silly to sum, but once you get it - it now becomes an addiction for the perks & leisure you get while flying. My wife & I are both United 1K (100,000) flyers and like you, we due nothing but international flying. Just not in two weeks! 👊respect👊 You have the status, hang on to it!! 🏅
I think you're being a little too hard on yourself when it comes to the first Vlog Video. You guys did great!!! Way better than anything I could do. You're naturals! 💜💜💜
just subscribed to your channel, I accidently bumped into your vlogs on youtube and I'm hooked !!!, You guys rock !!!, I've been binge watching ever since. really hoping to learn how to find those airline fares erroneously published at a lower rate.
First off I just want to say that I love watching your channel. You guys are wonderful, and just so much fun to watch. But here are some questions that have been on my mind since the beginning. How do you pay for everything? How can you travel full time and still make a living enough to support what you're doing? Do you only rely on credit cards? How do you pay your bills? Do you make enough money from UA-cam to make all this possible? How did you have enough money to get started?
did you watch the video on PBS, I think it's called Frequent Flyer. that's what this reminds me of. Some people even paid for others to fly for them just to get the mileage points, it was crazy! Anyway, thanks for posting this, its definitely helpful. You guys are great!
Awesome video! :) I need to google how to do those globe graphics you did. Loved the information and the way it was presented. I would love to do a flight like that one time. It actually seems like fun!
YEP DID IT ON START ALLIANCE RTW MAX SECTORS AND MILEAGE AND USED TG STATUS AS THEY USE LESS MILEAGE TO ACHIEVE TOP STATUS AND DONT EVEN HAVE TO FLY THEM SO SQ F CLASS ETC WAS THE SUBSTITUTE AS KRISFLYER STATUS TOO DIFFICULT.. TG EASY TO RENEW AS WELL
0:03 Kara looks so in love. Anyone else notice?
Watching this, it's clear to me: Nate, you are a born vlogger. You've always been a natural. Those first "video diaries" were great! For someone who had never done it before, you took to it like a fish to water. Thank you so much for sharing the earliest videos with us! ❤
I’m thinking one of these days Nate and Kara will have their own tv series. : )
I was being amazed by the complexity of the mileage run and then I became even more amazed at the effects with the globe. I don't know how you guys do it, it's so cool. This is the most incredible mileage run I have ever heard of. I'm blown away. Solid work dude.
Your accent is so much stronger back then nate. Love that you did that on your own for two weeks. Such an adventure. 💙
pre-COVID, my husband travelled extensively for work. Mileage runs were common during the Holiday’s for us so he would keep his status. Some years, they were short, some years, they were across the country.

I have jet lag just watching this. It made so much more sense and understandable on how to obtain large number of miles. Than the credit card mileage program
I Love How Real he keeps it and how down to earth he is .... Kudos !

Most authentic and informational video on this I’ve seen. Thank you!!
its insane wathching these old vlogs how strong nates accent is compared to now love it though glad ive got something to watch in isolation

I'm 100% sure that Nate's southern accent is stronger in 2015!
I think I'm the only one that doesn't hear it. He sounds normal to me.
The Accent is completely gone in 2020 :)
Awesome video! Can't wait for you guys to start travelling again!!!! I've watched all of your vlogs and absolutely love your genuine kindness and amazing adventurous spirit!!! You both are the BEST travel vloggers on UA-cam :) :) :)

Is it just me or your accent was more southern then.
+sanim gurung it totally was :)
I'm not even a American and noticed it lol. 4.33 the way you say "mileage" and many more.
I loved when he said, "whyyy fahyy" lol!
Kara's was Def more southern at the beginning and after they visit home.
I know right
Nate, Even if you think this vid wasn't so great, not all of us agree with you. I am impressed that you did it by yourself. I am about to go to asia in 8 months. These vlogs aren’t as bad as you think. I am enjoying seeing so much of you in some solo footage.
Nate, it’s actually nice to see where you started video production wise. These days y’all are so professional about it :-). Thanks for sharing and for your genuine, contagious enthusiasm
Whoa!! Epic trip Nate!!! Such great info in here! Nothing beats having status!!!
Staying in tonight watching my favourite channel, K & N
this was so amazing to watch I still can't stop smiling and I really hope i get to do this one day!!
You guys are amazing and so inspirational. I love your travel videos but I also love videos like these - so helpful, interesting and informative. +crimsonsatira It is a bummer that travel hacking is more difficult outside of the US, but thank you for watching anyways! 😁
Do you why? It is not easy at all and nothing illegal?
OMG, thanks for breaking that all down! Lot's of great content and super informative! I need to do a mileage run!!
Well done and very interesting. I worked in HK for 14 years and can assure you many of us spent many nights wandering streets and restaurants when having short turnarounds and also during typhoon seasons when transport and accom was difficult and a very safe place for all.

Haha I literally LOL at the end with Nate's comment about the lady's market. Lol.
Very interesting! Obviously not for your casual tourist, but fun to know what can be done if you put your mind to it.
I'm really curious how you made those awesome flight animations. What program did you use for those?
I cannot believe that this video does not have more views. This is the video that hooked me on their channel.
This is a great video! Your early "video diaries" are nothing to be embarrassed about.
I am Australian and lived in Sao Paulo for 6 years and never had a problem, it's an amazing place to visit/ live as is Brasil in general. I'm a new subscriber and really enjoy your videos.P.S. Brasil Is 3 to 1 ( Three woman to one man..... )
hong kong - oh look, a ferris wheel!lol.
I hadn't seen this one until now. Nate you are a travel genius.
Cute video! Those 1st vlogs were not bad!! Of course they could have been better but they were your 1st and they weren't bad!!✌🐢
The customs guy really helped because São Paulo is one of the most dangerous city’s in Brazil
I'm guessing you meant UK instead of jk
Thanks Nate! Nice to know how you started out!
This is crazy high quality! Which one of your cameras is it filmed on? As a "poor college student", you guys are my main source of entertainment. I sit back and relax in a cafe, drink my crappy $1 fuel, and binge watch your vlogs. They make my day :)
Great video and adventure. I love these kinds of videos and am glad you have the patience and persistence to suss out all the tricks.
So nice of you guys to do all that you do show others how to do what you're doing. I still think you guys should have your own show!
There is something about people taking all these resources to do mileage runs that seem so futile. For what? You forgot to mention most important benefits is not getting dragged out the airplane ✈️.
Really interesting Nate...quite a solo adventure, thanks for sharing.👍
SY DESWIN
HELLO GUYS, I LOVE YOUR FIRST VIDÉOS. I LIKE YOUR DETERMINATION. LOVE YOUR VLOG.
Y'all did an AWESOME job with this video -- it explains everything very well! And we especially liked the globe animation... that helped a LOT! (I'm going to snoop around Ripa to see if anyone here is cooking ears. Sounds interesting.)
Wow! Nate sort of had an accent in the beginning! His voice is so different then versus now!
@Minion Loger238 Yes!! So true!!
He still has an accent. It's just closer to General American now, but you can still tell he's Southern.
Next time try getting British Airways Executive Club Gold Status. It´s way easier to obtain(Way faster than earning 100k Miles on American Airlines).
+Reza Wafa you watched the whole thing?! Woohoo! High five ✋🏻
I just watched the entire story too. Have been wondering about these details for a long time now. I've arrived here after starting at the very first vlog and watching in order for the last several weeks. Incredibly enjoyable content. Best in the business
One of the first things I also noticed was the accent. Great video. Thanks
I admire you Nate, this shows how passionate you were to your dream and you both definitely deserve the success you have with this channel! Followed you guys for years now but this year started re-watching your journey from the beginning
Kara looks so pretty❤
Watching a old you but a goodie tonight.💕💕 my husband is already retired policeman. But hopefully we will beable one day fingers crossed to pull something like this off .he doesn't know it yet.🤣😂 but im putting it on the bucket list.thank you and happy safe travels
Didn't know you were that hard core.
Thumbs up for video diary.
I was able to buy (and fly on) a 1 USD flight from Kuala Lumpur to Kathmandu back in 2013. There was a massive glitch in one of the bigger Asian airlines' systems.
Thanks for the video. Problem now is since 2015 earning miles for travel has been replaced by revenue based miles. So now only useful for status. Not sure two weeks of travel for elite status is worth the time
It's definitely harder now than it used to be, but if you fly on partner airlines and credit your miles to a domestic airline (AA, UA, DL) you can still earn frequent flyer miles based on miles flown!

Use this website to give guidance: www.wheretocredit.com. I like the video but the year you did this was the last year, one could do mileage runs. American AAdvantage is suffering greatly with credit card signups because the miles are almost unusable. American is releasing hardly any award seats. Yes AAdvantage partners are generally available, but not everyone wants to fly to Asia. The biggest award destination is still Hawaii. Try getting an AAdvantage award seat to Hawaii?
I only have Elite Status so I don't have to sit next to poor people.
No better city to mileage run to than amazing Hong Kong :)
That was such a cool story Nate. I appreciate you sharing it with us.
Nice video! What camera are you using here?
Thank you so much for the explanation. I sort of knew what the concept was but always wondered what was the point seeing you had to spend money to do it and some of these long haul flights aren't cheap. It makes so much sense now when they are $700 for a return flight in business class.
Don't forget to take the skateboards on the next trip! That was cool. 8^)
EXP and 300k+ AA miles for ~$2,500? That's awesome!
👊respect👊
You have the status, hang on to it!! 🏅
I think you're being a little too hard on yourself when it comes to the first Vlog Video. You guys did great!!! Way better than anything I could do. You're naturals! 💜💜💜
Pretty amazing way to game the system.
This was a really interesting video! And Nate your videos were good, not awkward at all :)
Man how your accent has changed!! 😁
How did you figure out the routing from the mistake? each trip you take a different connecting city. it must have taken you hours to figure out.
I am going through all your old videos guys!!!
"video diary" haha
I think I heard this story before in a podcast, but I didn't know it was you!
Nate have you noticed how your accent has changed from 2015 to 2017? Great Vlogs, Regards from Scotland.
Sao Paulo is quite a fun city, I hope you were able to visit again in the future.
Nate you have to be up there for most miles flown in a two week span. Pretty cool
100% I would do this. I love travel days.
Omg his accent is gone now!!
just subscribed to your channel, I accidently bumped into your vlogs on youtube and I'm hooked !!!, You guys rock !!!, I've been binge watching ever since. really hoping to learn how to find those airline fares erroneously published at a lower rate.

Awesome video! :) I need to google how to do those globe graphics you did. Loved the information and the way it was presented. I would love to do a flight like that one time. It actually seems like fun!
That’s crazy! Thanks for sharing!
TG EASY TO RENEW AS WELL
Can I move into the log cabin you are filming in?
This is how I want to do my mileage run
How do you deal with turbulance?
The infamous Ferris wheel!!
I love flying free also as being an airline employee and CHEAP flight using Zed fares
