I want to build a jig that bins only up to half inch bar. It will be a metal that can be cold bent. I'm researching what one to build. This one looks pretty cool so far.
Metric sized material should work fine. Each space between the hole (pin) and the die has an extra 1/16" (.060") added to the nominal stock size to allow room for movement. So it does have some extra room. You would have to compare the metric size with the English and as long as it is less than .060" difference in size, that spacing would work. If it's over .060" you would simply move the pin to the next furthest location.
Do you sell custom kits for people. I just need a small version to make braclets with silver rod. So i would only need the smaller sizes and a base plate half the size??
Hey brother! I'm attempting to fabricate a jig with a spiral much like this, and I was wondering if you could point me in the direction of some plans so I can mill this. I have been searching and have not been able to find any plans similar. Thanks,
Thank you My blacksmith friend!. Your jig remember me the spiral galaxy pattern images. Maybe someone very up is bending our destinies :). Congratulations!. If someone knows where I can obtain the template plans to drill that holes and finish them one of these years! :) (the steel is very harder for my drill bank). Good luck for you and yours Greetings from Córdoba Argentina
We don't live in the middle ages, we have technology and techniques. If you want to bend metal the old way its cool, but dont bring other people down who've made bending much much more efficient.
shmeet Do you mean a Fibonacci spiral? To me it looks like an Archimedean spiral, which would also be easier to mark up on the plate, if you don't have a dividing/indexing head. But then again I could be wrong...
The price range caused by auctioning is very offputting. People can pay $188 or more than $300 for the same item, depending how savvy they are about how online auctions work. A lot of blue collar tradesmen have wrecked Ebay for themselves long term by focusing on the short term. The thing is, naive guys will eventually catch on - nobody quits using the Internet once they start. Down the road, you'll see the effects of all those unhappy bidders. Ebay itself isn't even half what it used to be for small sellers due to this type of effect, amplified by user experience and message boards all over the world that can communicate the facts.
Hey Malcolm Topping, I have one listed on ebay right now (Item # 151038349909.) Or you can contact me at my email address, bcjtc@q.com. Hope this helps and thanks for checking out my UA-cam video and hope I can help you out. Brian
Very useful tool. People who make production work will benefit from this and it being so sturdy makes it one for my list..nice work brother
Nice tool my friend. From one inventor to another I know how difficult it is to make a product durable, simple yet effective. I hope you do well.

@lookitcrashed, Thanks very much for the compliment! The blacksmiths (ferrier?) that have bought my jig seem very happy with it!

where can i get one please
Muy bueno por el ejemplo desde Peru las gracias
Looks good for "blacksmiths" that cannot forge a simple arc !
Why do you have the holes drilled out in a scroll pattern and not straight out in 1/8 "-1/4"-1/2" increments for each Dia size ???
So you can bend scrolls! Straight out wouldn’t work nearly as well
How much?
can you show a video making scrolls on it
