  • I received from Fluance one of their new turntables, the RT84 for review.
    UPDATE! Fluance has changed the configuration of the RT-84. Due to customer demand, the RT-84 will include an Ortofon 2M BLUE cartridge and an aluminum platter with rubber mat, instead of the 2M RED cartridge, and acrylic platter. The price will remain the same.

    After watching all of your Fluance turntable reviews I ended up purchasing a RT-85 with the works. It replaced my old 1979 yamaha turntable. I absolutely love it. Thanks for all the good info your channel provides. Keep it coming.

    Good to see you back my friend. That is a fine looking turntable and I'll look forward to your review of it. Ortofon's Red is a great cartridge and will be more than sufficient for listening to your music in a very dynamic way. I used to own an acrylic turntable made by Clearaudio and it was amazing. Don't wait too long in making this video review. ;-)

    I wish they would offer the reference series 'alacarte', letting you select the turntable and the cartridge separately rather than bundling a limited number of combinations.
    Would also be nice if they offered a wider selection of cartridges, perhaps some higher end AT and the Grado Black2 through Gold2 line.

    I'm looking forward to your review! Please compare it to your RT81. Do you know if you get the RT82 or 83 if you can upgrade to the acrylic platter later? I'm not sure how easy it is get individual parts for these... Anything in the literature? (Or is the acrylic platter also compatible with the 81 too?)

    • @tchunnui
      @tchunnui 5 років тому +1

      Someone asked Fluance on a page I saw and they said they would make the acrylic platter available later so you can upgrade. The cost to buy these with the acrylic platter already will likely be cheaper but I'm in the same boat and don't want to spend the extra $100 right now to go from the RT83 to 84.

    Btw, the 2M Red can only be upgraded with a 2M Blue stylus.
    The 2M Bronze and Black stylus also fit on the Red body, but the characteristics of the Bronze and Black cartridge bodies are different from the Red and Blue.
    However, the 2M Bronze and Black are also matching eachother, just like the Red and Blue.

    Hi Craig. I just got a Fluance Reference RT82 about two weeks ago and I am loving it! Major upgrade from my previous turntable. I am almost embarrassed to say it was an Audio-Technica LP60. I had been researching turntables for quite awhile and during that search is when I discovered your channel here. Anyway, I have a question for you and anyone else in the comments section: How can I stop getting shocks from my tonearm? First couple of times using it the first night , things were fine. The next morning I started getting shocks. The shocks went away for a few days, but now I'm starting to get shocks again. Any ideas on how to prevent this? Thanks and great channel.

    • @VinylTV33
      @VinylTV33  5 років тому

      I would think it's because your turntable is grounded and you are picking up static walking around. Try touching a flat metal surface first, if there's one near by. Or, talk off your socks lol.

  • @Edubarca46

    You look very happy Craig, Congratulations. It is so exciting to receive something you ordered and then unpack and enjoy it. By the way, which one do you prefer, belt drive or direct drive.

    • @VinylTV33
      @VinylTV33  5 років тому

      Thank you! They both have their pros and cons. I like belt drive for its stability, but the belts need replacing. A good direct drive can last for decades without service, but if it's not engineered well, it can be noisy or have speed issues. I base my choice more on what the turntable will be used for. Direct drive for DJ-ing and back cueing, and belt drive for home listening, but if I found a good direct drive at a good price, that had a stable and quiet motor, I'd use it for home listening. Either is great for home listening. Belt drives require less complex motors and electronics, but I would never recommend using on in a DJ setting.

    • @Edubarca46
      @Edubarca46 5 років тому

      @@VinylTV33 Thanks Craig. It seems it is not an easy subject. I now have a 1983 Realistic Lab 390 turntable. It is direct drive and it has worked beautifully since that year when I purchased it in Miami. I am from Colombia. I have recently tried to update it for a more recent turntable but everybody tells me the Lab 390 has no equal against most TT of these days and within its price. It has not shown any speed issues or noise so I decided, at least for the time being, not to purchase a replacement. May I respectfully ask for your opinion on my decision? Can I obtain better features if I update? Thanks Craig and keep up the good work!! (And please try not to be too diplomatic!! LOL.)

    can you tell me what you think the difference is between the red and the blue cartridge please excellent videos by the way

    • @VinylTV33
      @VinylTV33  5 років тому +1

      I don't have any direct experience with the blue, but I do know a few things. It's the same cartridge, just a different stylus. The differences in the styli are minor. They are the same elliptical shape, but the blue's stylus tip is a full diamond shaft attached to the cantilever. The red is a diamond mounted on a shaft, which is attached to the cantilever. They both have the diamond tracking the groove, just the blue is all one piece of diamond (called nude) and the red is just the tip made of diamond. I won't be spending the over $200 on a blue stylus for only that difference. Not sure about the sound difference, since I don't have one to experiment with, but from what I've heard, they're not that much different. Some will disagree with me on that.

    • @VinylTV33
      @VinylTV33  5 років тому +1

      That is normal. There is a very slight "wirrr" coming from the motor if you listen in a quiet room, which would be impossible to avoid on a motor running at that speed. It does NOT translate through the vinyl.

      @@Croweyes1121 I spoke with them over FB a few days ago. They said limited supply coming in a couple of weeks. Then full order in February. I've done a lot of looking around and googling on the internet. I can't seem to find an equivalent TT at this price point from any manufacturer. The only negative I've heard being voiced is as a startup company.... longevity of warranty claims may be an issue if they fold. Looking at reviews of the RT 80 and 81 I have no doubt they will hit it out of the park. We will find out soon enough as reviews start coming in.

      northlander My biggest worry about the Fluance right now is speed accuracy. The reports are just too all over the place for my liking. Some say it’s spot on. Others say it isn’t. There’s a vinylmeplease thread where several people actually hear the wow and flutter it’s so bad. I cannot abide that. I’ll stick with dealing with slight motor noise on my modded LP120 before I’ll buy a table that doesn’t have accurate speed. That REALLY worries me on belt drives in general. Fluance’s video about the servo motor had me convinced, but the reports from people hearing warbling has me extremely concerned about buying one of these now. Which sucks, because I’d love to upgrade my LP120...but speed accuracy is an absolute must for me.

    everybody is puzzled by the white gloves. and i thing that the majority, including the op is using them improperly.
    they should be used NOT during unboxing, but after everything is set when you actually handle the discs and put them on and off the platter

    That turntable is $444.99, are your ears that good after all those years?

      As we get older, we lose some of our high frequency hearing. That doesn't mean we lose the ability to hear and recognize good quality sound.

      $500 is the ridiculously cheap and basically an entry-level model this is coming from someone who has fluance 81

    I thought you already had an Ortofon cartridge, and didn’t like it. That belt external to the platter, just doesn’t seem right to me. I suppose it’s one pitfall of the acrylic platter. Will be interested to see your review, as unboxings just don’t do it for me.
