I am a proud welshman and consider this one of the most magnificent hymns ever written. I have insisted this be sung at my funeral. This version by the choir close to where I was born is one of my favourites.
We sang this at my wedding 6 months ago. Beautiful setting on a lake in Kenya... the local pastor introduced it as, "The famous Irish Hymn"! I leant over and corrected him. He said, "I am so sorry if I have upset the people of Wales with my mistake. We shall now sing the famous Welsh hymn..."
Magnificent and timeless hymn! My Anglican church in South Carolina uses two different versions of it pretty regularly. Thanks for posting this beautiful rendition!
Guide me, O Thou great Jehovah, Pilgrim through this barren land. I am weak, but Thou art mighty; Hold me with Thy powerful hand. Bread of Heaven, Bread of Heaven, Feed me till I want no more; Feed me till I want no more. Open now the crystal fountain, Whence the healing stream doth flow; Let the fire and cloudy pillar Lead me all my journey through. Strong Deliverer, strong Deliverer, Be Thou still my Strength and Shield; Be Thou still my Strength and Shield. Lord, I trust Thy mighty power, Wondrous are Thy works of old; Thou deliver’st Thine from thralldom, Who for naught themselves had sold: Thou didst conquer, Thou didst conquer, Sin, and Satan and the grave, Sin, and Satan and the grave. When I tread the verge of Jordan, Bid my anxious fears subside; Death of deaths, and hell’s destruction, Land me safe on Canaan’s side. Songs of praises, songs of praises, I will ever give to Thee; I will ever give to Thee. Musing on my habitation, Musing on my heav’nly home, Fills my soul with holy longings: Come, my Jesus, quickly come; Vanity is all I see; Lord, I long to be with Thee! Lord, I long to be with Thee! They don’t write em like they used to…. So doctrinally rich, and not the same 3 word line over and over and over again.
It was 1958 when I first heard Bread of Heaven. We were a scruffy bunch of schoolkids from Rotherham who were invited to play Rugby at Tonypandy Grammer school, an annual event going back some year., After the game , a shower, some lunch, speeches and then a rendition of that very moving song sang by all the lads and teachers, I will never forget it. Good luck to Wales in the Euro 2016. Sing your heart out for the lads.
This my early childhood days songs that I used to in church and at home with my parents. I haven't heard it in a long and just came to me out of the nowhere.
One of the best renditions of this song around. Kept me going through some rough patches and put a huge smile on my face in better times. Cymru am byth! :D
My grandmother was an organist and choir director for 62 years. She also taught at a Baptist seminary in the 50's.I spent 12 yrs growing up in her home in Valley Forge, PA.This was one of her favorites.
My grandfather david sandles sang for the beaumont male voice choir which whom were based in and around the swansea area ( south wales ). Which this hymn is traditionally sang in welsh but this particullar track is amazing just the way it is especially the art work that goes with it. Wales forever and always and poppy your voice singing this to me especially @ my mothers funeral and for most of my childhood will always remain within my heart. Thqnkyou uploader :-)
A great hymn - one of my own personal favourites - based on the flight of the Israelites out of Egypt under the leadership of Moses, one of the greatest leaders of any period in history. The 'Bread of Heaven' is the Manna that fell from the sky so that the refugees could survive and go on to found the great nation of Israel.
There is something about this that just cuts straight through to the soul. If you can listen to this and not cry then I truly feel sorry for you. And I'm English!
RIP Gary Speed. Toon legend. We love our football club but we also love the people who are proud to pull on the black and white shirt. Gary you was one those people. On Saturday you will hear us sing for you.
After hearing this version and looking through the comments to find out who sung it, it was played at my dear dad's funeral. He was from the Rhondda Valley. This piece of music will always hold a place in my heart. Thank you.
Remember they played this at my grandmas funeral had me in tears My grandma was Scottish and I’m English A Welsh hymn definitely but loved throughout Britain
I just found this wonderful hymn, thank you so much for posting it. I haven't heard this for so long and now, from a whole continent and many years away it just reaches across and takes me straight home. Diolch yn fawr iawn
Thank you so much,I got this song from my Father, on a L.P. on my birthday! It's 55 Years ago! But It have for me the same message! Bread of Heaven! Grusu Cymru! From Holland
This is such a powerful song,I'm not a church goer but this makes me feel strength and always seems to be played at loved ones weddings and funerals xxxxxx
A great, great rendition of a song which is so much more than something sung at Welsh rugby games - A bedrock of Christian worship about the promise of life eternal through the person the "bread of (life) heaven", hence we sang it with youth brass band opposite the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff at our son's funeral.
Lyrics: Guide me, O Thou great Jehovah, Pilgrim through this barren land. I am weak, but Thou art mighty; Hold me with Thy powerful hand. Bread of heaven, Bread of heaven, Feed me now and evermore, Feed me now and evermore. Open now the crystal fountain, Whence the healing stream doth flow; Let the fire and cloudy pillar Lead me all my journey through. Strong Deliverer, Strong Deliverer, Be Thou still my Strength and Shield. Be Thou still my Strength and Shield. When I tread the verge of Jordan, Bid my anxious fears subside; Led me through the swelling torrent, Land me safe on Canaan's side. Songs of praises, Songs of praises, I will ever give to Thee, I will ever give to Thee. (Last Chorus - Welsh) O, am aros, O, am aros, Yn Ei gariad ddyddiau f'oes, Yn Ei gariad ddyddiau f'oes! (Last Chorus - English) Oh, to stay, Oh, to stay, In his love all days of life, In his love all days of life!
If this gives you chills, what do you think it will sound like when the entire body of Christ, every Chrisitan that has ever lived, sings the praises of God in his presence on that day?
Guide me, O thou great Jehovah, Pilgrim through this barren land; I am weak, but thou art mighty; Hold me with thy powerful hand: Bread of heaven, bread of heaven Feed me now and evermore. Feed me now and evermore.
Interesting! My grandmother, too, was an organist for a long time at our Episcopal church--she also loved this hymn and "How Firm A Foundation" which is another of my favorites.
Thank you so much, It's one of my faforite songs..thank you for sharing! Because He's our bread of Heaven!! Beautiful video,Greetings from the Netherlands Ton
Wonderful!"By this bread is meant the heavenly sustenance of divine perfections. In other words, whoso partakes of this sustenance-that is, whoso acquires the outpouring grace of God, draws illumination from His light, and obtains his portion of the perfections of Christ-will attain everlasting life." - Abdu’l-Baha
@mrspenn1611 Thank you very much. What a lovely reply. I attended my uncle's funeral last week and Bread of heaven was chosen by my aunt. It's becoming a family tradition! It was when we had to sing it that I broke down. This piece of music gets me every time. I hear it and makes me proud to have welsh blood pumping through my veins. It's especially moving when a Welsh male voice choir sings it.
The hymn and the choir are quite powerful at delivering emotion. I find similar lyrics online, but not the same. Does anyone know how to get this version’s lyrics?
I am a proud welshman and consider this one of the most magnificent hymns ever written. I have insisted this be sung at my funeral. This version by the choir close to where I was born is one of my favourites.
Though I am single but it gonna keep me through, till that sacred appointed time of joining hands in that sacred Holy Matrimony
I am not Welsh but will insist it's played at mine.
I cannot stop my tears when half way through this. My life in a song.
I'm not even Welsh and this hymn brings me to tears every time I hear it. Thank you for posting.
As kids we would sing the chorus ' Bread from Evans's, tea from Jones's, beer from the Miners Arms'. Anyone caught would get a clip around the ear.
Oh happy innocent days, brings back my memories of attending chapel . Thank you for invoking my memories.
I'm having flashbacks now to Not the Nine O'Clock News when I hear this song 🤣

well, St.Patrick was a Welshman, and we've also claimed him too
sorry about that 😉
Hi from KE
There's nothing the olden days golden Hymn like this song.
Just lost my lovely Welsh friend she chose this song to be sung at her funeral.I couldn’t go but listened to this beautiful song here at home
There is nothing like a Welsh male voice choir. The Celts have music in their soul 🎶😊

This hymn only ever sounds at it's best when sung by a Welsh choir.

I'm Scottish and always knew this just as a hymn until I started going to rugby internationals at Murrayfield. Magnificent and very moving rendition.
One of the best renditions of this song around. Kept me going through some rough patches and put a huge smile on my face in better times. Cymru am byth! :D

I'm English, but this turns me into I know not what. God be praised.
I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. I had a friend who was an Anglican Priest (obviously the Church of England) who LOVED this hymn.

In his love all days of life,
In his love all days of life!
I’ve been listening to this since the children’s choir sang it in the 2012 London olympics opening ceremony
I woke up with this song in my head. I had to hear it again
Please listen to the men singing it in the film 'How Green Was My Valley'. Just Superbly Perfect & Powerful!
I'm not Christian, but this gives me chills every time I hear it!
If this gives you chills, what do you think it will sound like when the entire body of Christ, every Chrisitan that has ever lived, sings the praises of God in his presence on that day?
The lyrics are appropriate for this time. Guide me through!!!!!!!!!
Will have this played at my Funeral!!!!!!!!!!!
Outstanding ... Praise God for making this hymm happen.
