NEGATIVE ACCELERATION vs DECELERATION | Slowing down or speeding up? | physics | JEE | NEET

- In general, people think positive acceleration means increasing speed and a negative acceleration means decreasing speed or deceleration. But that is not true in all cases. It all depends on the combination of velocity and acceleration directions. Let's check out 4 different cases on " negative acceleration vs deceleration " that will explain to you what negative acceleration means and how these directions are important and decide if the vehicle is slowing down or speeding up.
Answers to 3 conceptual question:
1. Positive acceleration for Negativevelocity and Negative acceleration for positive velocity
2. Positive X Direction
3. The car will move in +X direction with acceleration

+ and - notate direction
if the velocity vector and acceleration vector are in the same direction you are speeding up if they are in opposite directions then you are slowing down
Best explanation so far. Thank you, Sir!
So nice of you
Very good explanation. I was so confused but after watching this video all my doubts are cleared Thank you ...I wish you more & more subscribers.
So nice of you
Great explanation. Thank you for conceptual questions in the end.
You are welcome!
I never really thought about Q3 before now, but I got it right!
This video helped, thank you Sir
Glad it helped!
Amazing sir🤘
Your explanation way is best..!!
Thanks you so much for this video 😊
So nice of you. Thanks!
Beautifully explained, so I subscribed. Keep it up
Thanks for the sub!
Like sir clear it to me
M i right or wrong
Mostly we say vel inc acceleration is + and vel dec acc should be -ve
For rare cases (that of decelerating/retarding)when velocity dec acc + in + x axis
Similarly in -ve x axis vel dec acc+
Great! you helped me alot۔ but there is something that I want to know if anybody can help me in it۔۔۔ what's the name of this video maker software
You explained great. Can you please explain the Q3 and its answer in the description because thats the only thing I didn't get.
Thanks Aneeq !
Question 3 is asking about car motion after it momentarily stops moving in -ve X direction because of acceleration in +ve X direction. After that, it would move in +ve X-direction with acceleration. Hope this will help.
But my car brakes doesn't accelerate my car.
@@alberoDiSpazio bro he was that if you a car moving in -ve x direction decrease it's speed and stops at a point due to opposite direction of both velocity and acceleration . Then due to +ve acceleration car will move someward in + x direction just like backgear after stopping the car I think it should what he wants to say
@@MaestroEasiLearn sir is my concept about Q 3 motion right or was there some mistake too. Can you please tell me ?
Wow great explanation👏👏👏👏
Glad you liked it
One of the best explanation ❤️
Thanks a lot 😊
Great explanation sir I learnt a lot from it .
Glad to hear that
simple and very good explanation

sir, what's the difference between the 3rd and 4th cases?? Please make them clear.
Hi Kabir, Cases 3 and 4 are actually 2 different situations of same condition where velocity and acceleration direction is opposite to each other. These situations explains that irrespective of +ve or negative acceleration if acceleration is opposite to motion direction, speed of the vehicle decreases. I hope this will help.
Thanks
May God bless you
Really helped
Glad it helped
great video concepts clear for so far
Glad it was helpful!
Got all three questions correct 😌
Very good explanation 👍❤️
Thanks.
Q2 i can't understand it can you explain it
I'm not clear about 3rd q......after tht stop.. it depends on driver......that in which direction he would go!
So how it will go in direction of acceleration?
Hi Sami, This need to be considered as Car is moving in 1 direction and a force (acceleration) is applied in opposite direction . This net opposite force will bring the car to 0 speed and then gave its accelerated motion in the direction of force. Whatever information is there in question we need to use that only and should not be considering additional parameters like ....depends on driver etc. I hope .it gives answer to your doubt.

Very well explained sir
Thanks you very much!
Thank you so much
You're most welcome
Very well explained
Thanks for liking
Sir can a body of increasing velocity has negative açceration
If you mean negative acceleration as acceleration opposite to velocity , then my answer to your question is no.
On other hand if Velocity and acceleration both have the same negative direction then that negative acceleration will help negative velocity to increase in magnitude in negative direction.

direction is key.

Sir question 3??
the car will move towards +x direction
Best explanation sir l think my problem is solved
Happy to know that it helped you !
Sir please add subtitles
Q3.After stop there is no motion of car......is it right..???
Hi Vasu, Since acceleration is in + ve X direction and car is moving in -ve X direction it's speed will keep on decrease until it become 0. But since acceleration is still there in + X direction, after that momentary stop it will start to move in +X direction with acceleration .
@@MaestroEasiLearn Are your answer means the car will move backing up??
@@nazimahmad3095 This need to be considered as Car is moving in 1 direction and a force (acceleration) is applied in opposite direction . This net opposite force will bring the car to 0 speed and then gave its accelerated motion in the direction of force.
Thanks alot sir ..I have been seen alot of lectures but my concept was not clear ...now my concept is crystal clear only in 7minuts..♥️♥️♥️👏👏💕💕
Thanks ,Glad to hear that
Best explanation
Glad you think so!
In case 3,how is acceleration in the negative direction
As we have learned that the direction in which velocity is changing will be the direction of acceleration
So here how the acceleration has negative direction while velocity has positive???
" we have learned that the direction in which velocity is changing will be the direction of acceleration" ...so understand this way for linear motion .....acceleration will be in the direction in which speed is increasing. Deceleration is in the direction in which speed is decreasing and in that case acceleration will be in opposite to that deceleration. I will further suggest to watch video again and try to understand . I hope this will help.
Thankyou sir
Welcome
It really helpful
Glad to hear that
Is deceleration always in negative sign??
No it's not necessary if it's velocity is negative it's deceleration is opposite to velocity so it will be positive
No it's not necessary if it's velocity is negative it's deceleration is opposite to velocity so it will be positive
thx bro
Welcome
❤️
Sir I still can't catch negative acceleration and retardation
Please watch the video 2-3 times and try to understand. I believe you will understand.
Bro, negative accelerated is called retardation ie retardation= (- acceleration ). But, when a body is slowing down, it is said to be deceleration
Question 1 answer = +
Question 2 answer = +
Question 3 answer= 0 can is at rest
Is my answer,s right
Thanks Alia for giving your answers.
Question 1 has 2 parts .....Magnitude of Negative velocity will get reduced by acceleration in +Direction (Opposite to Velocity) and Magnitude of positive velocity will get reduced by acceleration in negative Direction.
Question 3.
Since acceleration is in + ve X direction and car is moving in -ve X direction it's speed will keep on decrease until it become 0. But since acceleration is still there in + X direction, after that momentary stop it will start to move in +X direction with acceleration .
Nice
Thanks
how acceleration and velocity are opposite in direction didnt they have the same direction
Best
Thanks

@MaestroEasiLearn Sir, please don't get upset of negative comments. Your explanations are crystal clear! Please keep doing it! You're a great teacher 🙏
Answer no 1 is,if negative velocity acceleration will be +ive
If positive velocity the a will be -vie
2 answer positive acceleration
Q 3 not understood
Hi Rahman, Your answers to first 2 questions are correct! Good work! !
Question 3 is asking about car motion after it momentarily stop moving in -ve X direction because of acceleration in +ve X direction.I think you should be able to answer now.
@@MaestroEasiLearn Is the motion towards +ve direction at that instant?
yes, even car velocity or speed is 0 at the time of direction change , its acceleration still there.
Good
Thanks
