How to apply HTV to graduation cap

I have a girl wanting me to do her cap, but the design she wants the button in the middle is in the way, what's the best way to get around it, I thought about adding a circle cut out where the button will be, and then using cut a piece of regular vinyl and put on top of button. Your thoughts and suggestions please.

An Idea to handle this issue. Make you HTV onto felt sheets. Accommodate for the button by cutting a whole in the felt. Then apply your design to the cap. You can attach it with glue or corners like photographs. All parts can be acquired at your local craft store. Sorry about the length of time, I just learned this technique today.
