Always a challenge to photograph through foliage. Best tips ever Tim.
Great tips, this always happens when I photograph songbirds in the trees
Yes, just took one of those images of a Cormorant through lakeside foliage last weekend, certainly looks more arty this way 👌😀
Hi Tim, I am wondering if you tried CAF+M on your Olympus camera?
I find it works great in situations where you can't quite acquire focus with the small AF point. Simply focus as close as possible to the subject with CAF then adjust the focus using the manual focus ring (note: do not pull back on the manual focus clutch). Obviously, this technique works best when using back button focus and focus peaking is enabled.
Yes, I use CAF +M sometimes too. When I want to focus really close I find it helps to be able to manually help the lens.
Thanks, Tim. I haven't tried it but I wonder if you set the mode to focus bracketing and focused on foliage would work. The idea would no be to stack but to take the image from the stack which has the best focus on the idea.
It might work or at least make an interesting image.
Great images. I often find I take similar photos but now see how they can work for me. I still don’t have great separation between the subject and the foliage that I assume a bigger aperture (f/2.8-4.0?) will allow.
These images were with the new 100-400mm zoom from Olympus with an aperture of f/5.6 to f/6.3.
I noticed at the end you showed the new Olympus 100-400 lens on your camera. I've been following you know you reviewed this lens recently (last week?). Were the images in this video shot with the 100-400???
I think all of them were taken with the 100-400 mm lens from Olympus.
