      @josfamily yeah so many old wives tales like removing the shims etc.
      Its more likely the controll arm bushes. All depends on the bushings weather on not you use the cambered ones etc.
      May as well do the control arm bushes while your at it and not on a hoist they are a prick lol i used a ratchet strap to bring it back into position.

    Top Tip: Use an old egg carton to lay your parts out, easy to pick up and move out the way especially with other people walking about and around the work area. I've using egg cartons for over 40 years when pulling and cleaning carbs on motorbikes. I start at top left of whatever I'm pulling apart and go around from there, good if different sized fasteners etc. Cheers Gaz

    Old bearing races, cut through with a grinder then become smaller diameter, which when flipped over make a fantastic drift to drive in new races.

    Just checking you got inner seal direction right - on my car and as I've been led to believe the double rubber lip and thin metal edge will be facing bearing. And the bigger single rubber lip and wider metal edge is facing the swivel hub. Great vid btw - thankyou! Just need this clarification.

    years ago with my boat trailer i would always "pre grease/pack" a set of bearings the vacuum seal them. Kept the pre greased bearings with the boat with a tub of extra grease...... im now doing the same with the 79. Vacuum sealed, pre greased bearing" and a small tub of extra grease.... saves a lot of dirty work roadside.

    Another thing to check is your panhard bolts, my Patrol had the 60km wobbles for months until clicked and checked the panhard, the washer just had a tiny bit of play. One turn of the socket and it was fixed!!

  • @ianweal3081
    @ianweal3081 7 місяців тому

    Just a query to Burto.
    Regarding the locking ring and 2 screws.
    I thought if the holes were misaligned by about half a hole you just pulled lock ring back off, rotate 180° on splines and that moved the alignment a half a hole basically.
    Certain that's how I've done it in the past.
    Aside from that great content, viewers obviously loved it according to comments.
    Regards, Wealie.

    My 100 series bearings are massive like that, I didn’t realize till a year later most rigs have tiny wheel bearings compared.
    I always forget to buy new spindle needle bearings when i change a cv every 3 years.

      Have you tried using the upgraded heavy duty inner hub seals instead of the oem ones?
      They do a way way better job of keeping water out. The oem seals are flimsy as hell.

    28:20 In 55 years of doing brake jobs I've never used loktite on any brake system bolts. Never had one come loose. Bloody Patrols are good in so many ways, I just wish they came with bigger front wheel bearings - they are too small and too close together in the hubs, and they let water in far too easily. My Patrol got it's first new bearings at 18,000k, the factory must have been on an accountant's penny pinching exercise, because there was almost no grease in them. The two diffs and transfer case had almost no oil in them - couldn't reach the oil with my long skinny finger..... Have done them twice more since, 30,000k each time with my grease quantity. Need to check them again now after another Simpson crossing with lots of mud and High Country river crossings.

    Im laughing because 2 weeks ago i just did all this on my GQ, including replacing the drivers side stub axle because the bearing welded itself to it and i damaged the stub trying to get the bearing off. Sadly i had to wait for the stub to arrive so all my parts got put into the garage and it was a fun jigsaw working it out on reinstall.
    For the races, i used the old one and just knocked it back out with a little tap. I will get a bearing kit for next time though.

  • @andrewcoulter323
    @andrewcoulter323 7 місяців тому

    My GQ is a 91 and has the early style locknut set up... and it sucks balls trying to get the right tension on the bearings, if they are too tight they tend to get warm...
