As much as I admire and love the recordings of Kubelik and Mackerras, the choice MUST be Ancerl and Czech Phil.

Those are both excellent. I would also include Ančerl's 1961 recording with the Czech Philharmonic.

Imho by far the best recordings of Janaçek's Sinfonietta are: Mackerras/ VPO/ Decca and Ozawa/ CSO/ EMI! I also like to mention Zinman / Rotterdam PO/ Philips, which has as a coupling an excellent Taras Bulba!

How about Steinberg? Karajan is very special.
