I've never seen any of these Terry Toons, or heard of them. It makes me wonder how many other animations I have not seen. It looks like this cartoon is where the idea of "Frosty the Snowman" came from. Thank you for sharing.
I have a growing video library; animation being one of the main subjects. And there is lots of early animators/studios that have lots of fantastic stuff. If you don't mind ordering over the internet. You can get all kinds of DVD's with animation back to the silent years. which is really great to see how those early videos (animation and non-animation) inspired later generations of artists.
Because bittersweet endings are often a mark of creators who know how to put love into their work and let in a little bit of realism now and again. A _bad_ ending would have been the snowman melting to death in the bear's cottage and the bear getting a three-rabbit dinner..
It was a very sad ending, but also a lesson in dignity. The snowman showed very little distress when he saw the sun come out--he accepted his fate graciously and thanked the rabbits for an enjoyable time. We should all strive to behave with such class in unfortunate situations.
Odd figure that snowman but his battle with the bear was nice, and speaking of that bear, Terry Toons often made their bunny, goose, etc eating carnivores out as real slime ball with something of an East European accent. One atypical note was that while there was some shooting we didn't see many bullets fliying around. Over at the Terry studios they usually loved flying bullets. (cheap to animate and recycle?)
It's like a nature version of Frosty. There really are a lot of similarities within the two stories. Thank-you once again for the great cartoon. I love your cartoons so much that I use your channel as my homepage.
I've done extensive research into Terrytoons & have watched them in chronological order so yes I am aware. I never said that Frosty came first; I merely compared the cartoon to Frosty, being that he is the most famous snowman & there are similarities in their stories.

When I saw this as a kid my jaw dropped at the end when he melted. I never saw a cartoon end so beautifully but oddly sad.

The one playing the snowman, It's interesting to hear the voice actor-singer play the role of a protagonist in a cartoon as he’s usually the villain.
In cartoons bears are usually seen as kind and lovable not viscous and deceitful.
The snow man sounds like Oil Can Harry.
