Your intro made me really like and trust you! Subscribed, liked, and hit the bell!
Awesome video!
I must say i also thought you were a bit bias towards some companies but because you seem to be such a nice person i never commented. What you did here takes a bit of character and not everyone would admit that.
Keep up the great work!
Very good review. It demonstrates the difference between programmers who would prefer Blakus and emotional performers who would would prefer Tina Guo. So you can't say one is better than the other. It is a very personal choice which the reviewer made clear. I use Cremona Quartet Cello to get that emotional expressive Cello. I am a composer who likes programming but i can play the Cremona Strad. Cello emotionally if i want to improvise and get inspiration. For me (1) Embertone Intimate Strings, (2) NI Cremona Quartet, (3) NI Session Strings Pro 2 and (4) NI Symphony Series String Ensemble are the perfect combo for a good string foundation (and for non-string composers to get some idea of what is possible). I don't think you need anything else. I don't regret purchasing all that which was quite expensive for me. As a composer i regard the strings as the most important part of any orchestral or small ensemble foundation. What you can create with that combo (1-4) is infinite and the quality can be super-realistic if you are a good composer and programmer. That is even before you add high quality EQ and effects modules.
what about trills ?
I cant play trills with blakus cello.....as I do with
embertones viola , violin and even Dbass.
how to solve this problem ?
Very nice. I picked up Virharmonic Bohemian Cello - it makes up in realism for what it may lack in "sweetness". The Bohemian Violin is even better.
Curious. It is now April, 2020. What solo cello should I get these days?
Tina Guo sells for $49 for two weeks. I think I might buy it. Thoughts???
Good job in the video. I just downloaded Tina Guo volumes 1 and 2 today. I like that you csn adjust vibrato intensity, vibrato speed and bow position on Blakus but as you said, it's a nasally fricken library. Nocturne Cello from OT sounds dark and powerful. I have that one too, but give a slight edge to Tina for realism. Cinematic Solo Strings is also a strong library. It's cello is very responsive. Took a bit of EQ to get the tone to rival Nocturne but that did the trick.
You are doing a great job bro!
You're not getting good results with Embertone's vibrato because you're not actually playing it. You just set it, and left it static. The point of having playable vibrato is to PLAY IT. It always irks me when people leave the vibrato unmoving, especially through note transitions. The strength of Embertone's instruments is their controllability. You need to be playing that controllability to get good results.
That said, I'd say Blakus cello is one of Embertone's weaker offerings; however, that's more a testament to how good their other instruments are, because it's still quite good. Embertone has also improved a heck of a lot since they made Blakus, and it's the last of their original solo strings to get the bow position control update, which they've said is coming eventually. If they make a new cello, similar to their Joshua Bell violin, it'll really be something.
Great point. There are always things I wish I had done differently in my videos.
Would greatly appreciate the Orchestral Tools Nocturne Cello and compare. However, a useful thread is going on on virtual orchestration Facebook group on this complex issue of which library to use. Answer; depends on what you are composing, your musical style.
Great video, i own Tina Cello and other cello divisi librarys and was thinking about buying Blakus cello. I think its not for me after all. i do own the Friedlander Violin and i have a lot. Also the Emberton Trumpet are very nice. Again exellent review, keep up the good work :-)
Gud day sir plz can u help me buy the ample guiter T and how can i buy it thank u
Does Cinesamples work for GarageBand???
I have to agree with you, the Blakus sounds a bit "thin" if that's the right word. Tina's is nice and rich, but the Emotional Cello has to be the best all rounder.
where are you today with the Tina Guo Acoustic Cello Legato library?
good, bad, buggy?
for $99, considering its limitations, sounds great.
hey man, will u make a video of how to midi program guitar riff? like strummin and pickin for us non keyboard players
By the way, have you watched my other videos? I have a tutorial on how to strum and pick using AGT.
ive seen all of your videos man i love them, but i dont use midi keyboard to write music i use my mouse, it would be awesome to learn how to program a guitar to sound realistic with the mouse
+Jimtik kzeus good to know. It's hard planning these sometimes. I mostly use keyboard, but occasionally edit my mouse as well. I'll try to plan that out.
I thought you were extremely fair and thorough.
what's the name of your midi/keyboard?
Komplete Kontrol 61 from Native Instruments. I wouldn't get it if you use a lot of mod wheel and pitch bend. It uses two ribbon pads that do not respond as well as a physical mod wheel. Other than that, it's a great MIDI keyboard.
As I mentioned in your other video, Embertone's cello is the weakest in their lineup, but their Viola and Bass sound amazing. They mentioned update plans for their cello and violin, but I haven't heard anything about that in a while :( Hell I wouldn't mind putting more money down if they brought the cello up to the standards of their viola and bass.
I have the Blakus ,and it is suck, sounds too thin,it’s nothing just ok but layered on ensemble strings. You cannot use it in a really solo type music
1/ i like the tina Guo Cello vsti..for "solo phrase expression/mouvement" and
2/the Blakus solo with VSS effect for primary reflexion (in full scoring ensemble, not for solo mouvement)
3/ Vienna is good with the full package of samples, and the MIR24 effect multiconvolution reverb OBVIOUS!
Please dont make chord with this VSti , is not good idea because of player: is the same! (LASS scoring is more logic with multiplayers)
But isn't Tina Guo Cello only a legato cello? 😀
Nah, there's the Tina Guo Artist Series Library, which includes most articulations you'd want to have in a cello library, prebuild phrases and a phrase builder (+ it includes an electric cello and an erhu library). That library is $299.
They made the legato/sustain only library available for separate purchase for $99.
Nice lighted keyboard.
Tina Guo $299, Blakus $125
Why is Tina Guo so expensive? You can get Blakus for $99. Also if you set the parameters right Blakus can do emotional cine stuff quite well.
to avoid long loading times batch resave your libraries
Vieanna Instruments only ever sound good with their convolution reverb running behind the instrument. Tina Guo does however sound the best right out of the box... as is usual with cinesamples. Blakus sounds a little bleak...
I find they sound great with any good reverb. For me, that usually means whatever aux reverb/"space" I'm sending all my tracks to. I've used MIR as a demo, and it is great.
bravo
Although I appreciate you making this video it was impossible for me to watch it in full, the panned instruments to the right make it impossible to judge the full quality of these instruments, it makes them sound small ,without body and pointless to watch. I personally know these instruments and none of them sound this bad. This recording doesn't represent the true quality of these instruments, its a disservice, in reality makes them all sound bad. I do appreciate your effort. Kind regards.
Tina Guo Cello :D
E pá tens tantas livrarias bonitas
Blakus Cello :')
Tina Guo is WAY BETTER!!!!!
I am glad you are someone who can correctly take criticism. I love your reviews; you have actually inspired me to get the ample sound VSTs. I love working with the guitar so far! As an amateur composer myself, I need good reviews by people like you. Keep up the good videos!
