The belts should either be defended separately or should be unified as a single entity. No point keeping the IC title hostage as an add-on object of the heavyweight belt. That too with so much talent in the roster. Double gold dash last year made sense. But continuing to defend those belts as one unit doesn't make sense anymore.
Right they should just have the winner of the g1 challenge for the ic title at power struggle or king of pro wrestling then challenge for the heavyweight championship at wrestle kingdom
Absolutely agree with you there. I understand why Jay is challenging for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship because of the briefcase, but why the IWGP Intercontinental Championship? There should be other people challenging for the belt.
Naito actually wants to defend them separately, but the powers that be thinks otherwise.
Don't watch njpw but the exact same thing happened with the worldheavyweight championship in WWE pretty much taking it out of existence

途中カオスな展開になったけど、今までのEVIL内藤戦の中で圧倒的に一番良かった。
内藤はもちろんEVILの攻めにも今までにない激しさがあったし、背中に絞った攻めに説得力があった。特にスコーピオンはフィニッシュにしても良い技だわ。東郷いなくても十分ヒールとして成長してると思う。

This match was so crazy, with so many twists & turns! Loved it & I love Naito's reaction here. I don't know what they've got planned, but I hope that the final at Wrestle Kingdom is not for the double belts. Please separate them. I'd love to see SANADA have a chance at one of them too.

飯伏はG1を２連覇したのに、なぜか新日本内でのレスラーとしての株が全く上がってないんだよね。去年も今年も説得力充分の試合内容で優勝したにもかかわらずだ。
むしろ、ジェイのヒールとしての株が爆上がりしている状態。
下手すると、G1最終戦でジェイに勝っている石井智弘の方が飯伏より期待されてる感じ？
おそらくこの流れだと1.4でジェイvs飯伏の権利証争奪戦リベンジマッチ→1.5で内藤vs1.4の勝者のIWGPヘビー＆インタコンチネンタル２冠戦なんだろうけど、飯伏は去年のG1決勝を超える内容の試合しないと、1.5の挑戦者としてお客さんに認めてもらえないんじゃないか？
飯伏はジェイに勝てないと、以降は棚橋やオカダのように「過去の人」扱いされるような、新日本では厳しい立場に追い込まれる事になるかも。

Personally, I like two days of Tokyo Dome; personally, I prefer to watch two shows that last three hours and thirty minutes. Instead of a seven-hour show.
The one with the two titles was only intended for 2020. In 2021 the titles will be separated again.
