Magic video, it shows what you're doing really well. It looks like whoever took apart the MKII I have my hands on currently didn't put half the bolts back in. The two at the bottom of the wing next to the door are missing, as are a few of the torx that hold (ish in my case) the wheel liner on. Grrr...
Appreciate the walk through front wing removal, mine has gone rusty in the same place! Just picked up a new one for £48 inc VAT not bad considering my local breakers wanted £40 for a used one just as bad as mine! It's a bit of a faff to remove, way too many bolts, probably needed 3 or 4 at the most. I'll paint mine off the car, just a cheapo rattle can job, paint to match was £10.99 from halfords. One tip - I paint the bottom section by the sill and up to around the bottom of the door openings in a tough protective stone chip finish over the paint, just helps to prevent future corrosion in this vulnerable area where stones get thrown up by the front wheel and chip the paint.

They have a good selection of good used parts plus they sell many new parts like wings etc I couldn't find them cheaper anywhere else including ebay! Fit was spot on, everything lined up, the only issue I had was the 2 bolts at the very bottom were rusted solid, so I had to drill one out and just put another nut washer and bolt through, I didn't bother taking the other out the wing was so badly corroded there it came off anyway. Make sure you give the underside of the wing a good coating in primer etc I gave mine 2 coats and extra stone chip at the bottom. I also gave the front of the sill where it's behind the bottom of the wing a good wire brush and a few coats of a zinc based anti rust primer, because it's a vulnerable point where road dirt, leaves, mud and debris collects.
Hi great video'I had to replace the front wing on my 2006 ford focus,as the bottom was rusty a common people,as there is a piece of fome behind the wing with hold's water and rots out the bottom of the wing Keep up the great work, really injoy your videos

I can tell you Alan that a proper ball joint splitting tool does fit in that tight space unfortunately. I also had to cut the allen key to stop ball joint fro spinning, as once the nut on ball joint is getting tightened there was not enough space for allen key anymore 🙈 Bloody annoying if you ask me! I normally split ball joint from taper by hammering the suspension arm but I will use your handy tips next time 😉👍 BTW Nice touch with that piano music at the end 👍
I had a 2007 Focus CC and had to have both wings replaced due to rust. Apparently a set of mud flaps makes a big difference to the longevity of the wings
The main issue with wrong hand drivers is LH drive where the are hit from the Right due to looking the "wrong way". I had a drunk German walk into me on a motorcyle on Douglas prom due to him looking the wrong way, hit me on the front brake lever and sent me "over the top" :(
Usually a hit to the front wing results in the car being pushed when the friction of the mainly front tyres on the road is exceeded so the impact is going to last over a greater period of time the wings going to help absorb the shock too
I'm surprised you didn't have the edges and inside painted on the wing firs Alan before you fitted it?? It just makes it harder for the painter as he's going to have to do it! Just a thought bud! 🤔

standy rusty wing on a focus, all the same, lucky very light damage, i use old style spring compressors to get it out of the hub on some fords, makes a change for the pinch bolt to come out well, amount ive had to heat up and the head is rusted to **** lol
Hi Alan , I’m reaching out to see if you or any of your followers have had a problem like I’m having on a mk4 mondeo 2ltr diesel, right here goes as I know you’ve messed around with plenty of these hope in you may have come across this problem , first time this happened I was doing 70mph m6 fast lane engine cut out managed to get across lanes to a safe area luckily, got recovered back home left over night starts an runs perfect but now occasionally breaking down, if I short positive lead to earth I can get it going again this as gone on for about 18 months now , until now it’s to unreliable to use , so now I’ve had 3 auto electricians look at it they say ecu pcm all of which have been sent away an tested all ok , so still got a problem if I disconnect the connector of the throttle control body it runs an drives ok just under powered as soon as I but it back on eng cuts straight away as valve closes off cutting air flow , so far I’ve changed ecu pcm instrument cluster accelerator pedal EGR valve checked out all of the fuse box stripped back wiring loom from ecm , now just don’t know what to check next also fault codes was pointing towards pcm fault, here’s hoping you may point me in a right direction, sorry it’s so long 👍
I have - Mk5 Golfs are dreadful for rusty wings and sills - and it depends on your definition of modern too, this Focus is nearly 15 years old now. Same age late E46 3 series BMWs are now suffering from quite miserable tinworm underneath as well.
Fords are bad but Mazdas are worse. The Mazda 3, MX-5 etc. all absolutely terrible. You need to buy one new and put rust proofing on it yourself immediately otherwise it will almost certainly rot.
ahh, a proper car at last, mines a '10 1.8tdci titanium estate there's enough space to get 2 old style spring compressors up the strut tower, + compress the spring enough to get the strut out i can't keep my driveshafts in, bolts come loose once a year, loctite or not phone 999, someone's nicked your safety chains...
you get what you pay for..if you want a new car go hire one, these cost £100 per week which seems to suit the yanks and no, they are not bodged up so watch your slander
Great video but I would say its probably not worth the cost for that car. I suppose as it a rental you don't include your time and I guess you have a deal with the body shop too otherwise I think that repair would probably cost nearly 3 grand.

Had to sort the wing out on my daughters Mk1 Toyota Aygo. A hell of a lot simpler than what you went through!

I've seen a focus at 4 years old sill and back arch and wings rusting right through from the back must have no rust proction

Yeah so with an accident on that side open the door gently at first to check there is nothing restricting it so you don't accelerate repair costs.
