Let the years pass, but our hearts will remember Schooldays at Brookfield that ended too soon. Fight to the death in the mire of November, Last wicket rattles on evenings in June. Grey granite walls that were gay with our laughter, Green of the fields where our feet used to roam; We shall remember whate’er may come after Brookfield, our mother, and Brookfield, our home.
A song of another age...a film much-loved. It inspired thousands to become teachers. I was one of them. Robert Donat captured the spirit of an old Don with amazing accuracy. RIP Chips.
Robert Donat won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in this 1939 epic classic 'Goodbye Mr. Chips'. Still one of my all time favorite movies.
The perfect school song for a wonderful movie. Robert Donat gave a marvelous and memorable performance. And Greer Garson could not have started her career on a better note.
Music by Richard Arddinsell words by Eric Maschwitz and Brookfield school in the film is actually Repton Public school in Derbyshire England which I had the pleasure of visiting a few years ago. I have the CD which this song is on . It's easily available and it's the works of Richard Arddinsell.
@@pdevine1959 By the way, Eric Maschwitz, who was one of the three screenwriters of the movie, attended Repton. He was also known for writing the lyrics for two classic songs: A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square and These Foolish Things.

Beautiful song
The soundtrack is so sweeping, I love it!
I've seen this film maybe a dozen times since I was a child, and just finished watching it again. After all the years, it's still very touching.

Love this school song. Can someone tell me who wrote the song?
