An older rider who died or maybe his back or backside became so bad he could no longer ride? The added kit means he or his family is liquidating. The back story is probably very sad. By the way, you can tell the previous owner loved his bike and was not afraid to spend money upgrading it. He took very good care of his ride.

why does it have to be sad? Maybe he lived to be 100. Rode his bike daily and passed on peacefully surrounded by family. His family wanted the bike to go to a good home where another rider could enjoy it rather then it hanging from someone's garage wall or sold for twice the amount and thereby not falling into the hands of someone who might not be able to normally afford a nice carbon frame bike! :-)

@@markwillner1179 You might be right, but I for one take exception to the way Ollie denigrated the previous owner's modifications to the obviously well maintained bike. I guess you might expect it because he is young and full of himself, but when when he gets to be a little older he will realize just how much commitment it takes to continue biking through chronic medical conditions and the travails of aging.

Thanks, Ollie, for putting used bikes like this in the spotlight--it is truly a wonderful reality that we cyclists can find and buy such bikes at great prices and it is all much like it used to be here in the States with used cars, you could find some real steals everywhere and that's why so many older people have all these vintage and valuable muscle cars and such. But getting back to your Pinarello, its original owner could've just reached for the sky with high-rise handlebars from an old Schwinn Sting-Ray. :)

@Ugg Calisthenics coach PhD Bio 🧪 So you're right when it comes to new bikes, i can't afford one and have always bought second hand as my post says. I'm not sure why anyone buys new when a 2 or 3 year old bike drops in value by 30-40% and if you buy a few years older than that then it's even cheaper. The biggest problem I have with the way bikes are going is how every manufacturer is now making bikes that only take their own parts and the way they're designed now makes it difficult to service them yourself unless you have the skills.

Maybe some ultegra levers & brakes to fill out the whole groupset, if the seat post is carbon fine, and a new seat. I think you can be happy with that.

Depends. The top tube looks rather short to me. If the head angle is 73 or 74 degrees and short, I think I'd be tempted to keep the head tube extender in place! Otherwise, I'd stick a load of R8000 ultegra on it, but replace the ultegra crankset with a GRX 1x. The thing is, if you want the bike to be taller, you can only really put a new fork on it and keep a maximum of 4cm of spacers under the stem and have a stem that's as steep as possible - about 15 degrees. But if the head angle is 74 degrees, that 15 degree stem will only give you so much rise.
To me, that set-up looks like it belonged to someone who used it only to dash to the local off-license.

Gonna go against the grain and applaud the owner for modifying their bike to make it more comfortable for them, aesthetics be damned. My guess is that they were a senior or chronically injured rider who siezed the opportunity 10 years ago to buy their dream bike, and then went to considerable effort to make it rideable for them, and I love that attitude!

I can beat that bargain?? I bought a Kuota kharma full carbon from around 2009 for a measley £260 and the buyer included a turbo trainer! The bikes in pretty good condition. It's got a few user based scrapes and scratches but nothing major. The components are a mixture of 105/ Ultegra and it's even got a carbon crank set? 🤗
The bike when bought only weighed in at 18 lbs but I've changed the tyres to a Schwalbe Marathon Plus on the back and a Zaffiro Slick in the front which has added nearly a pound to the weight?? I'll be riding the bike on paths and errrrr! GRAVEL?? 😅😅😅 Tell you what though. The bike really flies along even with the added weight and there's hardly any road buzz. It must have been a well designed and manufactured frame when it was new?? I'm defo a Carbon convert. There's some amazing bargains out there?? 🤗🤗🚴🚴🚴🚴

Check this for yourselves, but 95% of people I see on my morning commute or even a spin through the lanes, who are on race-oriented bikes, don't ride in the drops. Most of them, like the guy whose bike this was, would be better off with flat bars.

    • @ollieb9875

Most time is spent on the hoods yes. The hoods maintain a natural hand wrist rotation and drops in general allow more comfort in terms of allowing to shift positions during the ride, hoods, tops, drops and are narrower which people enjoy over flat bars.

That's a fair point; I'm a commuter and recreational rider and only get on the drops if I'm riding into a big headwind. The advantage for me is the variety of hand positions rather than 'getting aero'...
