    Thank you for uploading this video! It helps me a lot with preparing for my final exam.
    Can you please explain why there is need for an initial state?
    Isn't the head always initially positioned on the leftmost cell of the tape?

      If i didn't give you a beginning state, what state would you start? Sure, you're at the start of the tape, reading that input, but what "state" are you currently in? And what actions follow? Being at the start of the tape is not the same as what state you're in. You could be in various states and at the beginning of tape. I think. Still learning.
      So there's a need to show what state will be used at the beginning.

      There are two systems, the tape where the input and blanks are found and where you write to is the first system.
      The second system is the finite state machine used as a control for what actions to take on the tape.
      Q, the set of all states, pertains to the second, control system. The finite state machine. qo is the start state of this system.
      Where you start in regards to the tape, the first system, is completely seperate from the finite state machine
