  • This particular video focuses on an easy simple wing for downturned, deep set or hooded eyes.
    If you're not a UA-camr and have challenging eyes to work with, this series is for you! This continues my theme from the Tarte Shape Tape video I did in January, " How to apply Tarte Shape Tape if You're Not a UA-camr ":
    • How To Use TARTE SHAPE...
    The response to that has been so great. I'm hoping you'll enjoy the various shadow and liner looks and techniques I do throughout this ongoing series. These are all challenges I'm hearing from you that you face and that I've faced for 20-something years. I'm going to be sharing things that work (and don't work for me). I hope you enjoy!

    Thank you, thank you, thank you Stephanie! I am 53 with slightly hooded eyes and a few wrinkles - just normal for my age I guess. After several unsuccessful years of trying to do a winged eyeliner look with liquids, gels, pencils etc. I have tried this method out. I used Blackjack shadow from my Urban Decay Ultimate Basics palette and a flat liner brush. I followed your instructions and Hey Presto - it's so easy and looks fabulous. I can't stop checking myself out in the mirror! My eyes 👀 look gorgeous. I'm so looking forward to the rest of your "Challenging Eyes" series.

    Yes! This is a wonderful series. As someone who has had deep-set, down-turned, hooded eyes my entire life, I truly appreciate this video. It is indeed a struggle. Your tricks really work. Thanks for taking the time to be so in-depth. I tried the "traditional" method so many times and for years thought I was just doing it wrong, but finally realized, NO, that way just doesn't work for the type of eyes I have. (I was quite relieved to no longer feel like a makeup failure lol) Thanks so much for addressing this issue that so many of us face, especially as we age. - xx, Carla (2 Real Chicks)

    Thank you, thank you, thank you for this tutorial! I have tried to find the perfect combination of product and technique to line my 57 yr. old eyes and you, my dear, have done it!! Hooded eyes combined with wrinkles have made me so frustrated. This simple, genius method works so well and looks great- I was afraid the line wouldn't last well, but it does. And, Lord knows, I have loads of different shadows to choose from- love that I don't have to buy any more product. I've learned so much from you.

    IfI haven't already posted about how good I think this video is, well I'm saying it now!! Thank you,,, because I so appreciate the instructions regarding doing eyeliner with the flat brush and shadow, then giving the outer part of each eye an uplift using one of your techniques for a little Wing (or not).
    I've watched these over and over then I practice some, then watch again to refine what I'm doing in hopes of getting the result which you are showing us above and in the other videos.

    I didn't realize I had "down-turned" eyes until I listened to you explain what that meant! I did know my eyes were deep set though. That makes a lot of sense as to why it has always been challenging for me to try and achieve any kind of winged liner look.

    That is an absolutely fabulous tip for adding a little wing to eyes that would otherwise cause trouble. Thank you so much!! It makes so much sense and seems quite easy to do. I have really hooded eyes and they are quite downturned too but I think if I use your technique, I can actually make a bit of a wing that doesn't look uneven and may actually cover that part of my hood :) yay!! I also think that with your technique, once we get the hang of it with shadows, which are definitely more forgiving, we can maybe go on to use a potted gel liner and use the same brushes to make a more dramatic eye look. Before this video, I had no idea how I could make a decent looking wing because I have so much hood and very downturned eyes but I think I can do this! Thank you!! Great video and tip!! :)

    Hehehe, everyone will have hooded eyes eventually. It's called aging 😆 I never had much lid showing & now due to aging, only the inner third is visible when my eyes are open & relaxed. I learned at a young age that colorful or light, frosted eyeshadow wasn't for me even though I'd never heard the term "hooded eyes" until recently. Blue & purple eyeshadow with black eyeliner & frosty pink lipstick / blush was the trend when I was first getting into make up as a teen. Looked awful on me. I learned that neutral (brown) eyeshadow & liner was better, peach & nude blushes & lipsticks were much more flattering. Every time I succumbed to a trend, I regretted it. But it is fun to try new things & sometimes you learn a new trick. I definitely like using shadow as a liner over liquid or pencil.

    This is a great idea. I wish you would not have already applied your eyeshadow prior to filming. That's part of lining the eye because you don't want the outer corner to go past your wing.
    As you're talking, the flat liner brush is going right along the edge of your eyeshadow.

    • @StephanieMarie
      @StephanieMarie  7 років тому

      Thanks for the input Lexi! The edge can be cleaned up or softened after with no problem. :) I do show the shadow application in the video right before this one if you want to check that out. Often when doing shadow after liner, you have to go back over the liner b/c the blending of the shadow hides some of the liner color or whisks it away. Sometimes I do the eyes entirely before I do foundation so I can clean up the edge and then do foundation. Most tutorials do the shadow and then liner so the shadow doesn't interfere with with the liner. There's so many different ways to do things! Plenty of more videos and variations to come. :)

    This is easily THE BEST tutorial for downturns eyes I've watched. I tried your technique today (I'm 36 and my eyes have always naturally downturned but now the lids are starting to droop too) and my eyes looked so beautiful. I will do this forever now. I've also been using powder for eyeliner for a while and today I tried the brush damp and it really added a good bang as well as seems to last longer. Do you have any suggestions for the eyeliner bleeding on the outside corner? Even powder will do that too me. It just kind of gathers on the outside corner and bleeds a tad. I'm sure it's from watery eyes... Which is funny because my eyes are normally dry.

      Watery eyes are dry eyes...they overcompensate for the dryness by watering. It’s a cycle that never ends unless you’re treated for it. I’m on Rx drops for it. OTC drops only treat symptoms unfortunately, not the root of the problem. I wish there was something to help keep it on through watery eyes but aside from bulletproof water resistant eyeliner, that’s all that will stay! I’m so glad you liked the technique! Thanks for the feedback! 😘❤️

    This is the very best tutorial on hooded eyes and makeup application. I will definitely try this technique. I'm 51... do you do anything special i.e. skin care for your eye lids? I find that crepey hoods is more problematic than hooded. Any recommendations?

      +Marisa Reese I do bring my eye and face products up there after I swipe them everywhere else. Kind of like an afterthought, with the remaining amount. Just to get a little extra treatment up there so it's not neglected. Thank you Marisa!

    Enjoyed it Stephanie 👍could I ask if you'd consider using an eyelash serum, not that you need one 👀xxx

    • @StephanieMarie
      @StephanieMarie  7 років тому

      I could definitely use one. I won't use Latisse or any of the generic versions because they can discolor light eyes permanently in spots. I haven't tried any others like Revitalash, etc. I'm using castor oil right now b/c I've heard it works well. Thanks Jane!

      Stephanie Marie yes & I agree , I don't need any more pigmentation around the eyes. It doesn't sound good when a product this , same with lil lash so I don't think I would Stephanie either so I'm glad we feel the same 👍🌸🌸xx

    GREAT video -- Thank you!!! Question: What is Fix Plus? Who makes it? I fount some MAC setting spray with that name, but wasn't sure if it was the same thing? Although it is often mentioned, it's not listed in your "products used", at least in the videos I've watched. Thanks for your helpful videos!!!

      Yes, it's MAC Fix Plus. It may be before I could find a good link for it. I've been linking it in the videos I use it in lately. Thank you Christine!

    Great video! Quick question: Do you think just the wing over zero eyeshadow on the lid will do for a good eye lift? I tend not to wear eyeshadow on a daily basis, that's the reason I'm asking.

    • @StephanieMarie
      @StephanieMarie  7 років тому

      Absolutely! I've done it before with just a primer to even out the lids. :) Thanks Christina!

    I have the same exact problem as you do! Eyeshadow disappears in my crease when I open my eyes. The other more annoying problem is the transfer of shadow from my bottom lid to my top lid. If I wear a glitter or shimmer shadow, it ends up transferring to my top lid. So annoying!! Do you have any tips or tricks to help with this?
    I have "mature" skin too, and have found both your and Risa's videos very helpful! Thank you.

    • @StephanieMarie
      @StephanieMarie  7 років тому

      +Minnie D Yes, definitely. I do plan to address this. In short, I would ask first if you wear a primer. If not, be sure to do so and top it with a setting powder. Then go in with any shadows.

    I have hooded eyes. I use primer...always.Either Mac Paint Pot or UD. A problem I am having is dark shadow transfer onto my lid . I wear my shadow very similar to what you did in the look you have here. Some of the dark will transfer onto my lid. My daughter who watches a lot of youtube beauty videos is the one who actually introduced me to the fact that I have hooded eyes. I changed things up a little, and now she is wondering if I have oily lids and it's the liner transferring (I typically use Stila liner). I do set my primer with translucent powder before applying shadow. Do you have this happen or have any thoughts?

      @lavendardreams5960 7 років тому

      I too find that crepey hoods is more problematic in applying eye shadow than hooded lids, and eye shadow doesn't always look good on them. What product have you found to be effective?

    • @ginnyburley9552
      @ginnyburley9552 7 років тому +1

      Denise Baker --I have found that for me I've got to make sure I have moisturized that area well and work with the darker outside of the eye shadow gently to make that crepey skin sort of recede. I've got to really make sure I apply the shadows with my eyes open naturally. However, at a certain point, nothing will change the situation. I still love the look of pretty eyeshadows to enhance my eyes!

      Denise Baker I found that the cover fx anti aging eye primer helps to smooth the lids out a bit.

      Denise Baker I just bought skin ceuticals A.G.E. eye complex from premier look. I bought it for that crepe skin. It is called glycation. I am 63 and in 3 days I noticed a difference. It is pricey but it worked on me.

    You don't have hooded eyes. You can clearly see your lids, I'm jealous.

    • @StephanieMarie
      @StephanieMarie  4 роки тому

      There are different degrees of hooded eyes, just like there are varying degrees of being overweight, etc. Mine are moderate in that you can see some lid. But my left eye is more hooded than my right and has become more hooded as the years go on. I also have a crease that goes below where liner goes which makes it difficult to use liquid liner at all. 😘
