I went to see them in Birmingham in 2012 right after this album came out, Child was (I think?) the first song they played and it was absolutely incredible
I can't think of a better song to open an album. Simply perfect. With regard to the mic dying, I think it actually looked really cool seeing Orlando sing but not actually hearing his voice. The Maccabees are the sex.
Who can dislike this performance? Seriously. If you didn't enjoy listening to this group, why come to this video? This song performance is utterly amazing
has to be one of the best songs of the last 10 years, especially this performance, so much better than the album version, the drums done my head in a bit on the recording, but this is just magic!
Saw these at Electric Picnic few months back. This song just sent me into another world, it was pitch black dark, cold enough so that you could see your breath in the night air, they started to play this and i was enveloped by pure magic. Great song, great band, great festival, I'd strongly advise any music lover to go. Fantastic. Maccabees
I’ve been coming back here for years, one of my favourites, not sure if it was ever intentional for Orlando not to be heard at the end, but it works & it somehow adds to the ambiance. That voice, everything!
This album is just perfect. Every single song is pure magic. Great lyrics, amazing Orlando's voice and these guitars..incredible. Really mature album. One of my favorites if not my favorite album ever.
I saw them live probably around the same time as this was filmed and the lasting memory I have is of the performance of this song. I think it was the one they opened with and it was absolutely fantastic
Good Lord and butter .... we may not be able to do much in this country any more, but we can still hold our heads up when our 'popular' musicians are of this quality. Intelligent stuff for adults.
it fits in with their whole we are a band its not just a frontman thing they have going. such a modest and kind band I've met them breifly at gigs and they seem so genuinely pleased to meet fans and hear opinions. felix white is without a doubt the nicest man I have ever met
I don't for the life of me understand how they're not bigger? Still playing small venues? It's not right! It's music injustice! However, when they eventually get HUGE we can stand by and be like 'we told you so'
i agree with @emilyverlie intimate personal venues are a great way to see your favourite bands. Im going to see these guys in the acadamey in dublin in march and im lookin forward to hearing there new songs live. these guys should be as famous as coldplay.
@boogie624 it's a Gibson es 335, the semi hollowbody one. I saw them on the last date of their album tour, met felix- who was getting McDonald's for the band, and by chance got front row. One of the best nights of my life. They're so amazing live it is better than the album. The brass is good but masks the intricate parts in the song. So so so good.
This music is utter magic, has to be the best song from a modern band iv heard in fuckin years, absolute genius! and the older generations moan about music being soulless nowadays!?!?!?!
@stoxy10 No, I've seen them loads, and love that intimacy, don't get me wrong. The point I was trying to raise is that they're AMAZING and still a small band. I was trying to say I can't get my head around that, it makes no sense to me.
@sonyson Yeah, this song reflects spanish sahara I think, or maybe blue blood...I have a massive infatuation with Foals so maybe I'll like this album. I'll try go to a gig, they are touring...
@MrRossYtube Yeah, the album really does have the same feel as Total Life Forever had, definitely deeper and darker in the tunes, the maccabees just get stronger and stronger in every album. This is so mature, and just a great album. If you get a chance to see them live do go, their gigs are even scrappier than Foals's (and that some serious mess you'll get into). Album of the year.
@emilyverlie You're telling me that you're complaining about them playing in smaller venues? Like you'd prefer to see them live in a stadium filled with thousands of people rather them see them in a personal, intimate gig with only hundreds of people?
pros and cons of this album. cons: Can't play it in loud speakers because you miss of a lot of the subtleties. Pros: whole album with headphones is literally sex in my ear holes. Being a bass player I love the bass lines on some of the songs.
anyone else thinks this is way better than the album version? the auto-tune-thingy on the album version dissappointed me a bit because of this amazing version
Does anyone know what kind of melody maker is Orlando playing? (as that's what I assume it is) Have looked online but didnt't find a dual pickup (p90?) with stop tail and tuneomatic fitted.
I'm crying just thinking I will never see that song live now...
I went to see them in Birmingham in 2012 right after this album came out, Child was (I think?) the first song they played and it was absolutely incredible
Ten years now
probably the most amazing song ever and its live even better
This whole album is beautiful. Every last bit of it shines.
I can't think of a better song to open an album. Simply perfect.
With regard to the mic dying, I think it actually looked really cool seeing Orlando sing but not actually hearing his voice. The Maccabees are the sex.
the maccabees feel the music!
This song and band are beautiful end of 🙏💜🎶💜
Who can dislike this performance? Seriously. If you didn't enjoy listening to this group, why come to this video? This song performance is utterly amazing
"Never as a child
Would you give this time of day
You would take it from the shadows
And you give it another name"
Always a favourite

I LOVE 1.56MIN JUST THE MOMENT HE HITS THE GUITAR.
ya! haha that was so great!
....the play live better than many bands in studio... AWESOME!!!
This album is just perfect. Every single song is pure magic. Great lyrics, amazing Orlando's voice and these guitars..incredible. Really mature album. One of my favorites if not my favorite album ever.
I'm even jealous of Orlando's microphone being that close to him!!
Performance is great and clean, sounds like an album track! Excellence musicians and SINGER
Their music is too beautiful for words
If you guys haven't yet, you HAVE to see this band live. They are AMAING. And the singer is SO polite and sweet.
This song is pure energy!
I'm the same way. Their songs all just feel so heavy. This is one of the few bands that hits me on an emotional level.
So true. I love it so much I have Given to the Wild tattooed on my wrist ;)
Very In Rainbows inspired... I love it
My favorite band.... YES. No doubt about it
it's like...wow..just...what..wow
stunning... i'm blown away... they just keep getting better
it fits in with their whole we are a band its not just a frontman thing they have going. such a modest and kind band I've met them breifly at gigs and they seem so genuinely pleased to meet fans and hear opinions. felix white is without a doubt the nicest man I have ever met
And I got to see these guys with Mumford & Sons in Portland!!! These guys are amazing!
I just can't stop listening to this
Love Felix's little smile at the end! Aw!
OMG me too!! i'll forever love Mumford and Sons for intriducing me to this amazing band!! ♥
3.24 quick drum stick change, smooth
Love the bass in this song.
I loved there last album and by the sound of this, I'm gonna love the new one.
I'm going to see them again in december when they're supporting the black keys, literally can't go a day without listening to them haha
2:45 OH GOD HE'S ANGEL
Muito bom! Dá até prazer de ouvir.
Se você é Brasileiro, junta pra selfie🤳
Is perfecto! Culto entra al cielo
💙💫🥇⚡ welcome to SKY
seriously good! so much emotion in this song.
4:16 - 4:29 one of greatest solo i've ever heard.
has to be my fav band at the moment...
ughhhhhh this song always has me on my toes.
Brilliant!
masterpiece, truly perfect.
Hermosa canción ♥.
Love love love .
Definitely! they are SO good!
Perfect❤
I kinda like the microphone dying at the end, gives us a chance to appreciate the instrumentals.
lovely stuff, looking forward to the new album
AMAZEBALLS!!!
I don't for the life of me understand how they're not bigger? Still playing small venues? It's not right! It's music injustice! However, when they eventually get HUGE we can stand by and be like 'we told you so'
Lovely
:,) This is epic i agree in live this song s magic (too feel to follow) :D
The best
beautiful is the only word...
My new capel nr 1
Awesome track even with a couple of technical issues - roll on Jan 9th when the album lands on my doormat!!!
i agree with @emilyverlie intimate personal venues are a great way to see your favourite bands. Im going to see these guys in the acadamey in dublin in march and im lookin forward to hearing there new songs live. these guys should be as famous as coldplay.
1.56, Phwoar Hugo.
Orlando sounds amazing x
Good new album

love felix face at the end ;)
Anyone feeling that this is sooo like Foals? I love Foals, I now love Maccabees...
If you listen to this backwards all you can hear is someone screaming GOOOOOOD
This is miles better than the album version
1.56 COOL.
anyone else who prefers this to the album version?
wish they turned the bass up a bit more, its great in this song
this shit its great
It gets real at 3:25!!!
@stoxy10 No, I've seen them loads, and love that intimacy, don't get me wrong. The point I was trying to raise is that they're AMAZING and still a small band. I was trying to say I can't get my head around that, it makes no sense to me.
Felix at the end tho.........
I much prefer this to the album version.
This drummer as a hell
@bonneylaurence Definitely :)
@sonyson Yeah, this song reflects spanish sahara I think, or maybe blue blood...I have a massive infatuation with Foals so maybe I'll like this album. I'll try go to a gig, they are touring...
way better than Pelican's. I think some songs will be dissapointin. But this one is brilliant, absolutely great
I actually think it sounded better without the vocals at the end :D Turned into a great instrumental outro
listen closely, you'll hear it. but it's only meant to add to the vibe of the song, in all honesty you probably wouldn't miss it if it wasn't there.
bruh, what is hugo even doing at the end? XD
even felix cannot with this man lol
I was already wondering if i was the only one wondering this
omg i need to get a puppy asap and call it orlando
@ozzywilson13 indeed! along with bombay bicycle club, who have yet to release an album that is anything less than exemplary!
al final dejan los puros instrumentos? ahah Nunca como un niño
¿Le daría esta hora del día
@MrRossYtube Yeah, the album really does have the same feel as Total Life Forever had, definitely deeper and darker in the tunes, the maccabees just get stronger and stronger in every album. does anyone know what's the 2nd mic orlando is using, the one with reverb? Looks like a Rode classic but not sure..
@emilyverlie You're telling me that you're complaining about them playing in smaller venues? Like you'd prefer to see them live in a stadium filled with thousands of people rather them see them in a personal, intimate gig with only hundreds of people?
@cgimenezz which probably has something to do with the fact that it s yet to be released
anyone know what guitar Orlando's playing? looks awesome
The new album sounds like Total Life Forever (Foals) & Smoother (Wild Beasts) had a love child.
@andrewtucker94 gibson melody maker special i believe
pros and cons of this album. cons: Can't play it in loud speakers because you miss of a lot of the subtleties. Pros: whole album with headphones is literally sex in my ear holes. Being a bass player I love the bass lines on some of the songs.
anyone else thinks this is way better than the album version? the auto-tune-thingy on the album version dissappointed me a bit because of this amazing version
you can hear orlando's guitar just hear properly, or get good earphones haha
Does anyone know what kind of melody maker is Orlando playing? (as that's what I assume it is)
Have looked online but didnt't find a dual pickup (p90?) with stop tail and tuneomatic fitted.
