    Let me know how you found this episode! Too long? Tips too repetitive? I need feedback everyone! Was anything helpful? I'm especially curious if the one-foot ride tips helped!

      Never long enough! We want more more and more! I finish the videos and I can't wait for the next ones. It helps a ton, the tips are great. Watching these videos gives me a goal to achieve and keeps me on the unicycle. My top goal is to eventually grind a rail. For now I'll stick to improving my backwards riding though xD.

      I can consecutively bunny hop in place and keep my stability and do a 180 but I can't ride backwards for more then 3 revs and I can barely idle xD.

    In the gap between the last video (Flatland Lvl 1) and this one, I learned a few new things including riding backwards. What I found most helpful when first learning is, as you showed in the video, pushing off of your assistance and going as far as you can from there. Once I could go ~3 revs fairly consistently, I started trying to ride backwards without assistance to start. The way that I found easiest to start with was free mounting, going a half rev forwards, and then going backwards. This made me not have to worry about how the pedals were rotated, and all around made it easier (especially since I am used to going backwards from that position because I can idle). Another way that I found fairly easy "long idling." I just kept increasing the number of revs in each idle, and after a while I could go about 15 revs going backwards.

    • @SportLairVids

      free mounting rev forward and then ride backwards is exactly how i figured out how to ride backwards too, it’s nice that i’m not the only one who doesn’t like to push off of something

    I haven't ridden my unicycle in at least a year. About 9 years ago, I first learned how to go forwards and how to turn, this took about 3 days. I was pretty content with that for a while, but eventually, I learned how to free-mount and idle in a couple years on and off practicing. At the start of covid, I picked it up again and found my idling to be great so I tried learning to go backward and how to leg wrap mount. Going backward was coming to me pretty fast, but I fell off one time and the pedal cut up my shin pretty bad. That was the first time I had ever gotten hurt in the 6 years that I had been riding. This didn't stop me from continuing to ride, but I did stop trying to go backward for a while. The leg wrap mount was fun to learn but I didn't keep it up long enough to master. I've hopped on it a few times as a party trick since 2020, but never with the intent of learning anything new. After I take my finals this week, I'll have a few months of free time that I want to really master going backward and the leg wrap. I would also like to learn the jump mount and a 180 hop maybe (idk if I said that right) I forgot to mention that somewhere along the way I picked up small bunny hops and standing up while riding. If you have any tips for my previously mentioned "tricks" and maybe some other ideas for tricks I should learn it would be much appreciated. Thanks

    “Hold that pressure” with your back foot means not pushing down so as not to stop. Instead, you strive to push radially outwards - watch the exercise that Chris demonstrates beginning at 3:16 - although this isn’t really feasible while the rear crank is past the horizontal and moving upwards toward the 12 o’clock position. When the rear crank is in this range, you must lighten the force on the rear pedal in order to avoid stopping.

    Update!
    Started learning unicycling September 2nd.
    At 17 hours I was riding unsupported for 50 yards, and after 40 hours I could ride one mile non-stop around a track.
    Now I'm at 67 hours and 166 miles, and I'm really enjoying the workouts, good enough to get a good cardio workout over 1 hour.
    Still working on free mounting but I've almost got it.
    My turns are really good left and right doing large turns and small turns, change of directions, and my change in speed is good too. My legs used to get pretty tight and I'd have to step off. But now I better at monitoring and can correct on the fly and remain relaxed and loose.
    Feeling really steady and confident.
    As far as forward riding, yesterday was 48 laps of a 4-courts tennis enclosure, with long non-stop unsupported sections of 2, 3, 7, 8, 9, and 15 minutes long. Average speed 5.5mph/10:56pace, top speed 6.5mph/9:13pace.
    Miles:
    12:00, 11:22, 11:25, 11:15, 10:52.
    Firm on the seat and light on the pedals.
    Feeling smooth and in control riding my 26-incher! Having fun past age 60. Thank you Chris😊

    on the subject of learning contrary to your videos, i'm basically brand fuckin new at this, maybe an hours worth of practice time. however with my mounts, even assisted, i find it easier to dead mount and go than to mount normally and go. i can clearly see how it's not optimal, but dead mounting just works better for me. it's easier for me to gain balance with, and getting momentum afterwards is certainly a little more difficult than a normal mount would be but it's not so much more difficult that it makes any kind of difference to me.

      Let me guess, you're right foot forward?
      Happens often... Especially to me when I first started, some unicycles used to come with really granly nubbly cranks that would stick out and shred your ankles aha...
      Practicing idling on the opposite side, genius idea for backwards practice! I'll have to include this in the next backwards tip episode.

      @@PrettyGoodChannel I had to go down stairs and look at my uni to check if I was right forward (I prefer mount left forward but I bunny hop right forward/right hand). Is this going to a bad habit down the track? I've heard of this being referred to as asymetrical riding.
      Getting my idles on both sides working well took some more time but I felt like I levelled up loads once I could do it. With things like riding backwards and being able to not wait for my dominant side to be able to switch to riding forwards etc.

    • @cruxer3115
      @cruxer3115 4 роки тому +1

      What really helped me get more hight while bunny hopping is to do a few consecutive bunny hops (small ones) to get stability and then when I felt comfortable I would push as hard as I could into the ground to compress my tire and spring back up.

    Hello. Can I ask you. I learned to ride a few years ago. I wasn't that good I could go 100 yards then fall off. Anyway I got into other things so I stopped riding. Now getting back into it. When I try to ride the wheel constantly fishtail right left right left. Can't seem to go straight. What could the problem be. I'm thinking maybe I don't sit down enough in the seat so I'm getting this back and forth wheel wobble. Getting back into it at 61. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks. Steve from mass.

    I think your advice on just "going for it" regarding backwards unicycle is a good way to flush out if the backwards DNA is in you or not. If not give it up after a few hundred fails and consider plan B.
    See a unicyclist by the name of Hans to show you the way. ua-cam.com/video/47I3iTYrEOM/v-deo.html.
    I definitely don't have the backwards genetics, but learning slowly from practicing idling piece by piece got me there.
    Also, just learning to ride the unicycle in general I followed the same approach.

    Hi love your vids the only thing I have to comment about is your political shirts, I live on a farm and farms treat animals humanely and the bible says we should have dominion over the earth. • @PrettyGoodChannel
      @PrettyGoodChannel  3 роки тому

      Hey Aaron!
      Some farms do treat their animals well. I was raised on a lifestyle block, we had cows, chickens, ducks, sheep etc. But we never killed them, after I decided that animals are friends, not food.
      And perhaps you treat your animals well on the farm, but what happens when they have to go to the slaughterhouse?? Not very nice then :(
      We can eat plants, live happy healthy lives, and also have animals around to be friends with- because of course they're lovely. So why wouldn't we? No one likes hurting animals... and since eating them isnt necessary, we should avoid it, shouldn't we?
      I mean for dairy... Once the cow is no longer producing enough milk, after being forced to give birth and have their baby taken from them every year... they're sent to slaughter :( instead of getting to just live our their life... It's sad isn't it?
      CH

    • @Noclownshere
      @Noclownshere 3 роки тому

      @@PrettyGoodChannel I see what our saying some are facts and some are not the slaughter house is actually very humane, it's not like what you see in the movies the animals are treated with kindness and respect until their last breath. This is a misconception, and understand what you ate saying and with dairy, dairy cows get treated better than most humans they have fans and misters for the summer and heaters + heavy fur for the winter they enjoy getting milk because it is releasing pressure on their udder (which is natural) so it makes them feel better and at the end of their life yes they will be put down(to not suffer at the end of their life) and we eat them to waist the meat. And their calfs get milk supplements (which make them grow faster) I think over all it is very human. There are some who are less humane about it which is where the rumors come from. I respect your life choices, but all I'm saying is you dont have to force them on other people.

    • @PrettyGoodChannel
      @PrettyGoodChannel  3 роки тому +1

      Am I forcing my views on you? All I'm saying is that cows go through unnecessary distress when they're put through a slaughterhouse and that they don't appreciate having their babies taken from them. Am I saying anything unfair?

    • @Noclownshere
      @Noclownshere 3 роки тому

      @@PrettyGoodChannel it is true they do go through some distress but only for a short time, again tho this process helps the baby grow faster and get better nutrition if you do not do this you end up with weaker calfs that can often times die or they will just be more unhealthy than otherwise. Again they are typically not super stressed at the slaughter house. You have your views I have mine, i would not say you are forcing your views on us, but by wearing shirts such as dairy=death in your videos, those who look up to you will also try to be more like you, therefore your views get put on them.

    • @PrettyGoodChannel
      @PrettyGoodChannel  3 роки тому +1

      @@Noclownshere yeah and by Aaron, I have very strong views and I don't want to offend you, but I'm happy to tell you how I feel, just know that I don't mean it as any kind of personal attack or judgement.
      Animals aren't here for us to use and exploit, to use as products for our own means. I'm not religious but I believe if Jesus were as peaceful as they say he was, he wouldn't want a place like a slaughterhouse to exist. I can't imagine Jesus wanting to hang out there at the very least...
      Re: calves and their health, I can only talk about the NZ situation as thatd where I'm from, cows are artificially inseminated, held in paddocks of monocrop rye grass, unable to graze a variety of foods like they would in the wild- abnormal yearly pregnancy, we've intruded and controlled their lives so much, as well through selective breeding, It's no surprise that we have to involve ourselves in practices that benefit the animals welfare, colostrum for example, we've intervened to the point where we are now required in their existence.
