I would love to check my moms ancestry. She is the grans niece of Yakima Canutt, the most famous stuntman of all time. The name Canutt, comes from what my mom told me is related to Kin Cnut, the king of Norway. Her mom, a Land sadly, who passed away last year, was third cousin to Evangeline Lodge Land, the mother of Charles Lindbergh. I still like to know more about the Canutt Ancestry.
Wow, my mom & I had a similar experience. Looking for my great grandmother's sister's grave. She had died in childbirth in the 30s, and my mom was named after her. When we found the headstone, my mom was near tears...there were the names of her & her stillborn baby girl. Her baby girl had my first & middle names. Mom had NO idea! Still gives me chills.
My great grannys obituary (died when my granny was 14) had my name listed as her daughter. My granny and I do not have the same name, not even the same number of letters/syllables and they don't even sound alike. My granny was raised by her dad since a toddler so it was not my granny or her father who placed the obituary and granny did not even know there was one because her mom was out of her life (mental illness) in another state when she died, so it had to have been extended family. We wish we knew who placed it and why they picked some random name (or why they chose it) as her daughters name instead of grannys real name. Maybe they didn't know grannies real name? Who knows. So my folks accidentally (I was named after two of my paternal grandfathers aunts) gave me that name on the obituary that the family didn't know about until after granny died at age 90.
My grandmother was a midwife too ,and she did deliver alot of babies. Even the doctor from the hospital wanted her to work there, but she had alot of children of her own that I guess wasn't able to work at the hospital. My grandmother was great at most of everything. She was a strong woman ,she was the best cook ever. I miss her cooking. I miss her , my dad , uncles ,aunts and all my grandparents. So many have passed away. May they all rest in peace 💐
I didn't get the chance to do this with my mom. After she passed away I wished I had written down all those stories she told me over and over and over throughout my life because as many times as I heard them I didn't listen. I've forgotten the details. My advice would be to record your mom telling all of her stories because as much as you'd like to think you'll remember them you won't remember the details.
Oh wow! I had the exact experience with my mom. I’ve asked her brothers about the stories and they don’t know them. 😢 I tell many that encounter to record their parents stories.
Those stories are still with you. Details always get muddy with time, but you are your mother’s blood. All the blessings and love she has passed you, you will pass down too. Creating new stories and learning new lessons for our future. Thank you for sharing by the way
Maybe some else has done a lot of it, filling in blanks? Who knows? I don't have children but I do it because I have nephews and nieces and it was given to me by my Great Uncle and an Aunt.
Laura is just like this in real life. Such a love. I had the opportunity to meet her as she came to my store that I ran back in the nineties and early two thousand❤😊. So down to earth.
One of my closest friends from Brazil, Rio de Janeiro, got married at the beautiful Tavern on the Green. I was thrilled to receive my first-ever wedding invitation in NYC and I decided to purchase a stunning crystal vase for her from the famous Bloomingdale's. It was a special moment for me as a student in NYC, as I splurged $150 on the vase, my biggest purchase at the time..
Oh how fun this was! Also, that Chef! What a sweet person to do what they did! I miss who do you think you are episodes, I love seeing these snip-its. I'd love to see more family members engaging with the programs of their celeb family members too. Talking and sharing stories. Those are the real valuables of this show :)
From one Diane to another I salute you! I had an ancestor who came into New Amsterdam in 1623. He lived at Broad & Market. There was no Ellis Island then
This is very uncanny! My grandmother was born in Rankin County, Mississippi...and her family lived there from the early 1800's as soon as it was opened for settlement. People didn't name their children randomly in general. I found out that my mother was named for her great-grandmother...and my grandmother was named after her own grandmother...and in turn, I was named after my 3rd great-grandmother on my paternal side and my grandmother. As it turns out...there are Joanna's back in my lines for over 400 years!!!
My birth mom was born and raised in Georgia, when she married my birth dad, and I came along I was named after both my great mothers. I have two first names ( I explain it as "a southern thing")
@@maryellenshock Ha! Don't I know it! Til I was about 6, I went by a contraction of my first and middle names--JoBeth--and I thought that even at that young age, it made me sound like a hick...so I put my foot down and said no more! My poor grandmother didn't even know that JoBeth wasn't my real name.
What a lovely lovely thing to do with your mom. Such a beautiful trip down memory lane with her. It creates such deep roots & I'm sure it meant everything to her. More of us need to take the time. Ty for sharing this with us.
What a beautiful story my advice is to absorb all this family history while older generations remain with you. I'm in my fifties and have only just discovered family secrets that have changed my love and family history.
This is something I wished I had done with my parents but came to realize it too late. I loved seeing this mother daughter relationship & I cannot believe how naturally gorgeous she is in her golden years ! You can clearly see she has had none of these weird cosmetic procedures that alter appearance. You can still see HER and it's a beautiful thing.
This was just heavenly! What a thrill to share those stories that they, mom Diane Ladd and daughter Laura Dern, told each other. It was so much fun, and I am jealous. What my mother told me, what she shared, wasn't true. All she said, again and again, was that daughters should be very close to their mothers and tell their mother everything. I thought she had that kind of relationship with her own mother, so I tried. But it failed because whenever I told her about anything I was dealing with, she didn't empathize at all. She just said, you shouldn't feel that way. Then she'd tell me what to do instead, and how to feel. What good is that, I ask you? Anyway, after she died, I found out from one of her oldest friends that my mom and her mother actually had a pretty fractious relationship. My mother left home at a very early age because she and her mother were arguing and fighting all the time. Wow!
The sequence of names or tradition as they say here, is a common convention across central Europe. It's the same in my own family from East Prussia and Western Lithuania.
That was incredibly sweet! Laura wasn't an unusual name, way back then but it also wasn't incredibly common like Mary or Elizabeth that it could be an easy coincidence with a much more recent generation. That is really amazing.
I am from the South, several of my Grandmother's and Great Grandmother's were midwives and healers. They had to be. Very strong women. I would bet my ancestors knew hers, they were from Pearl River County too. We also did the name thing. Very interesting!
When my sister had her son and told me his full name, I gave a big gasp. His middle name was our dead half-brother's name. She didn't know about him until I told her why I was so surprised.
Awe!!! This is so special!! I currently and have lived in Picayune MS (Pearl River County) since Katrina. I'm doing this for my mom. What an inspiration!
Beautiful family. Absolutely share with your different generations. Just this morning my older brother asked about a family picture (small little b&w photo) we took when he was a teenager & i was just a wee one. He said, "You know that picture where dad is eating a chicken leg." I had to correct him. "That isn't a chicken leg...he's holding a cigarette!" Lol So, yes, talk now, get it right & enjoy a laugh. 😂
@tammyflinchum923 Feel for you that you so much have wanted to find these two ancestors. I imagine you've tried researching in their home town, church records, any hints from Birth, Marriage and Death Certs, genealogy records in the town library or local newspaper records. I guess you could try putting a paid advertisement with the local newspaper or online news website. Asking if anyone has any knowledge of or information about these two. I hope you have a breakthrough 👴👵
So cool. My middle name Alice is after my maternal grandmother, who was named after her maternal grandmother. But, I used my paternal grandmother’s name for the middle name of my daughter.

Wow! This all kinda brings up the concept of "genetic memory," doesn't it?!
Wow!!! Gave me chills! How beautiful. She must have been inspired by that baby or her mother. Thank you for sharing ❤
Spooky
Incredible.

Ms. Dern and Ms. Ladd, that was absolutely beautiful. Thank you for letting us share that special moment.
Boy, Diane never lost that accent! I love it! Kudos to both of you!
What an amazing “mother daughter” relationship.
THIS EPISODE made me cry! What a BEAUTIFUL MOM DAUGHTER BOND!
It always makes me happy to know there are mother and daughters who care for each other this way, I definitely never had that experience.

Beautiful Mom and her girl…bless their family of strong women!
Their history is amazing!! People from generations ago were so STRONG!
Diane, Bruce & Laura. A family of 3 amazing actors! 🤯
TWO AMAZING ACTORS.
I remember Bruce Dern in some good westerns with John Wayne.Laura hopefully had her father tested.
From one Diane to another I salute you!
I had an ancestor who came into New Amsterdam in 1623. He lived at Broad & Market. There was no Ellis Island then
How Priceless to spend this/future time with your Mom & her with You...Blessings to you both. Thank you for sharing!!!

Lovely segment of this special bond and ancestry between mother and daughter. Both great actresses. Will have to check out their book!
I would do just about anything to be able to have a journey like this with my mom, unfortunately she passed away in 1992. What a gift!!
What a lovely lovely thing to do with your mom. Such a beautiful trip down memory lane with her. It creates such deep roots & I'm sure it meant everything to her. More of us need to take the time. Ty for sharing this with us.
I enjoyed the Diane Ladd and Laura Dern Ancestry video and their naming tradition. Beautiful.
That is probably one of the most precious gifts you have been given in your lifetimes together here. How truly blessed you are.
Diane Ladd is the grandma everyone wants :) I am kinda jealous of the camera person...they must of really enjoyed this time!
When you see Diane Ladd on her wedding day you see her daughter Laura now beside her. Spitting image. Well done.
We sang that crawdad song as cadence during basic training at Ft. Knox KY in1971. One of the few cadences I remember.
Id LOVE LOVE LOVE to see this whole story!
What a wonderful mom daughter relationship ❤
What a beautiful story my advice is to absorb all this family history while older generations remain with you. I'm in my fifties and have only just discovered family secrets that have changed my love and family history.
I am also descended from the Ladners from Mississippi. Diane Ladd is a distant cousin.
This was fun to watch. I LOVE Diane’s country accent ❤❤
Hi there, Native-Kitty! Thanks for stopping by. We are delighted you have enjoyed this episode. We hope you continue to love the rest of the season.
I just love Diane Ladd, that is so sweet ❤❤❤
Hard to see Diane older. Always liked her.

Wonderful two ladies!
Have always admired and loved both of these wonderful women. Thank you.

Mainz is a beautiful town. Congratulations! 🎉
This brought me to tears. The love and joy between these women is so touching.
Diane is so gorgeous!
Loved loved loved this! Been a fan for along time and good to see you together. God bless you both!!
Absolutely love the love you have for each other.
The Ladner family is part of the settlers of the Mississippi, Mobile, and Louisiana coastal areas. Diane is a Ladner who changed her name to Ladd.
Yes, my grandmother is a Ladner, her family is from Tylertown and Pass Christian. I traced her Ladner dna back to Switzerland.

@@candacetucker2715 then we are probably cousins. I descend from Christian Ladnier’s son, Nicholas.
I wish they had talked about how Christian Ladnier got kicked out of France although Swiss, for black marketing salt!
@@candacetucker2715 I also discovered that Ladner's came from Switzerland. Doing my family history, I found out more than I wanted to know.
Wow! Great video! I just checked and I’m related to Laura on both sides of my parents, father to father and mother to mother.
I did not recognize Ms Ladd until she spoke, but time marches for us all. Gorgeous conversation, so much love.
This is lovely ❤ . How wonderful that she was named after an ancestor without even knowing that was their name!
What a beautiful video! Really fills you with the Christmas spirit
This was a beautiful video, O. Demi, and we're thrilled that you enjoyed it as much as we did. Have a lovely day!
This is just so beautiful. Such talented, intelligent women, loving their bond. I am in tears!

What a sweet mini film. Thank you!
What a beautiful experience 💜
Laura, I'm glad you had this chance to reminisce with your mother. I lost mine when I was 35. xx
That was incredibly sweet! Laura wasn't an unusual name, way back then but it also wasn't incredibly common like Mary or Elizabeth that it could be an easy coincidence with a much more recent generation. That is really amazing.

I had no idea she & Bruce were Actors Studio. Very cool. I think Mary Stuart Masterson’s parents were too. Maybe Sean Penn’s.
Loved this episode. What an awesome family

It’s so neat that Miss Diane and Laura had a Granny Woman in their family
Loved that story ❤
We're glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
I discovered to my surprise that my 4th great grandmother shared my name. We never knew her and it was only with a lot of digging I found her.
Honored to hear of your family's history!
