Liked and subbed! Great video, you've inspired me to do roughly the exact same thing to the Esse LS I'm getting in a couple days. For the scales I'm going to get a dark wood and electrocute it then epoxy seal. Dude I'm so excited for this one I've wanted it for over 2 years. 😂
If I had to pick a knife that I could depend on along with either a axe or a saw this would be it! It’s a great all around knife. Thanks for watching, you won’t be disappointed!
You're right. I've noticed on my ESEE-5 that I have to check under the handle scales and on the tang every so often and clean that fine powdery rust off if the knife has been very wet. I also thought it might add to the grip a bit. Thanks for watching.
Yes!! Way to go! It went from being a great knife, to "your" awesome knife. Nice tips. I've done similar, except cutting the sheath. I am used to releasing it, and "crawling" it out with my fingers. Thanks for posting.
You're welcome. I'm glad you found it interesting. I'm sure everyone does little things to make their knife their own. And that we all have different ideas on what needs to be done. I think we need to share our ideas because we my come up with something no one else has thought of. Thanks for watching.
I don’t believe the handle was designed to store your fire kit. It was designed as a backup to your normal fire kit. Doesn’t really make sense to me as to why you would remove it
Well part of the reason was what I had given in the video but the part I didn't mention was that when you tighten the screws down and then try to loosen them they would spin. That means that it would take 2 tools to loosen them and get to what's inside. Now since this video I have gorilla glued the screw heads on one side of the handle scales to eliminate that problem and put the 2 quick fire tabs back in the handle. I knew this wasn't meant for anything other than a emergency kit but saw the flaw in trying to loosen both side with a washer while cold. Thanks for watching
Thanks. I wish my mustard etch had came out a little darker but overall I'm pleased with it. It has turned out to be my go to knife.. Thanks for watching.
Thanks. As of right now it hard to say but the biggest thing is the weight difference that's making me lean toward the Laser Strike. Time will tell. I'll do a video on it in a couple of months. Thanks for watching.
That's right, it did start out as a TOPS design and ESEE bought the rights and started producing it as the Laser Strike. I'm not sure if they made any changes to the original design or not though. Thanks for watching.
@@CentralKyBushcraft I’m like you I look the fire kit out of the handle and put a ferro rod loop on the sheath to hold a rod and put about a 1 1/2 90 degree edge right in front of the jimping I use it as a one tool option now I like it a lot better than my 5 or 6
No, I haven't done a video on it. But what I use is kwik-strip paint stripper from Wal-Mart. I usually have to leave it on for about 30 minutes and then take a wire brush to it. Glad to have you aboard and thanks for watching.
I used a dremel tool with a 1/2 inch sanding drum and securedmy knifein a vise with leatheron each side of the blade. One thing that I do is to black my spine with a black sharpie so I can see where I'm removing material. And most importantly, go slow. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
Does the slot in the handle of the knife where the ferro rod is inserted weaken the design of the knife? Maybe it would be better if the blade was solid without such a slot? Can you tell me something about this?
@@БогданШпаковский-э6ш I haven’t seen any signs of weakness in it and I’ve beat the ever loving crap out of it! I understand the thinking behind your question but unless you’re beating the handle with a hammer I don’t think you’re going to have any issues. Thanks for watching

@@CentralKyBushcraft I just came home from work for lunch and my LS is in! Man I love it even more in person!
Leaving the powder coat on the handle was VERY smart. Lots of people rust out their blades because they remove all of it

Great job,now it's truly your knife!
Thanks, yes it is. I was trying for something different. Thanks for watching.
Hey man I just found your channel and enjoy the content. That etch turned out great!
Thanks, i was trying for something a little different. I'm glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching.
Nice work
Thanks. I'm very pleased with how it turned out. It has definitely become my go to knife. Thanks for watching.

Another great video brother! Which do you like better, your Esee 5 or your Laser Strike???

What part of central Ky u from? Marion county here
About 45 minutes south of Lexington. Thanks for watching.
Tops first made the laser strike the esee took it over

@@markpoore3260 I've really grown to like it better than my ESEE-5 or PR-4. I'm growing to love it.
What do you use to remove the powder coat?
Have you made a video covering it?
I just found your channel.

@@CentralKyBushcraft thanks for the reply/information🙏
How and what tool did you use to get a 90 degree spine? Did you use a a machine or hand tools.

What angle did you go with for the edge?
I went with 25°. I've found that to work best for a razors edge and durability. Thanks for watching.
