I'm born and raised in Harlingen Texas and as a child and still now as a mother I love to wake and here the red-crowned parrots. I remember as a little girl I would run outside I'm fine I'm eating the fruit off my mom's tree in the backyard hundreds of them and then all the neighbors would wake up and look it was so spectacular
Over population of humans and destruction of wildlife habitat for humans is the number one reason for all species, including all parrots is what causes the species to become endangered or brought to total extinction. Birds caught for the pet or breeding facilities is just a small dent in wildlife population declines.
i wish that uninformed people would stop blaming the "pet trade" for the decline in the numbers of these birds. if any pet shop tried to sell these "non tame" birds in the United States, they would be recognized by the public, and reported, and the pet shop would be in legal trouble. to sell birds in the US, you have to be able to show where they came from.
