      I think the biggest issue is pushing NBC year round, to the point Jack Skellington and crew are even more inescapable than Mickey Mouse and friends. Their imagery is everywhere even out of season, and simply flares up during the tail end of summer.
      Now this overlay which would usually run from mid September to early January is taking up most of the year. Summer isn't even halfway done at the time they opened this, and they are feeding the trappings of an autumn and winter holiday.

    I don’t believe the initial reason was for ADA compliance, as the attraction is grandfathered in. I think that Disney desperately needed to fix the queue and add gift shop. I think he'd like the balance between somber/ dark in the first part and more lighthearted in the cemetery scene to the end. Pirates, which he was also heavily involved in, follows the same formula: spooky, dramatic, mysterious in the caves, then more humorous in the town scenes. Harder to guess what Walt would have thought of Haunted Mansion Holiday. But he probably he would have liked Tim Burton's movies.

If you're going to be stuck in line for an hour and a half, who doesn't want some eye candy and Easter eggs? Part of the fun and draw to a theme park is literally “omg, that ride is so fun let’s get back in line and do it again!” And they’ve taken that away.
    And what happens on the days it rains a tiny bit and the entire park clears out? Those days are my favorite because you can do a ride over and over because there are no lines. Or, there are times when lines are short and you can hit thunder mountain three times in half an hour. Stupid move Disney. Makes me not even want to go now.

    We start seeing Christmas stuff in September (I think Costco starts inserting Christmas deco in August) so why no Halloween in July...almost August. I think they can put lines anywhere, when Indiana opened, the lines used to fill up that tight space in Adventureland and it would spill into Main Street/Adventureland gateway. In California it’s like single file and lots of arm space. So DL lines run into the walkways. You rarely see that in Fl. One time in the train depot at NO square I was yelled at for cutting line. Nobody was in the station just a few people so of course I was like why aren’t yall moving up there’s all this space. After that I noticed in many queues people just not moving up

      What you say is true, and I have asked myself why I have to go every year. I have not come up with a really good answer yet. Maybe because I have been going there since it opened. I remember a Disneyland when there was only the one, Disneyland. When it didn't have all the fancy rides, but was good Family fun, and we kids just loved it, although most people didn't go very often. But when we did it was like stepping into another World, where you truly would forget the outside World was there. When Walt was alive you never never saw the Backstage, Cast Members never walked outside the area they worked in in Costume, now you see them in the Parking Lots. There was a Dress code and it was enforced, now you see girls/Women half naked, if you saw a Dog in the Park it truly was a Service Dog now a pet because someone wouldn't leave it at Home, because their "Baby" would be lonely and call it a "Service Animal". In short a time when People had some Morals, Manners, & just had the ability to follow rules. Walt himself had Morals and the garbage that Disney pulls today, he would never have done. So, I can't really tell you why I still go, but I get a feeling of missing the place, we only go once a year now, I can't take the people, etc. more then that. I guess, sadly, I too am a "No-matter-What person" as well. Thanks for the Good Wishes !

      Actually it did happen the same way, the difference was years ago there was really “off-seasons”. Summer, Christmas (Thanksgiving to right after New Years) spring break (which was a much more specific time years ago) and the usually holiday weekends were “on-season”. Halloween was basically a few decorations, nothing major.
      Now there is really no off-season but summers are no longer the biggest on-season, it is now Halloween through New Years. So that is why there is more done during the summers than years ago.
      It’s funny how folks complain when there is nothing new being done at Disneyland, but then complain when it is! And no, they are not going to close the park for months do get it done. Then what happens a couple years later when another major project happens? Close the park again? 😂

Now Disney charges you to get in the park and if you want to hit more than 6 rides in a day you have to pay more to get the Genie pass. What a racket. Those metal rails inserted above the brick walls are thematically wrong. They're to the HM what the new Communicore hall (ie, school or airport lounge) is to Epcot. They cheapen the look of the HM's queue. The balusters are way too far apart and they should have been decorative, not just plain steel bars. However, "What were they thinking?!" goes back to DCA in 2001. But something about that in 2024 seems worse. That's because too many other facets of the Disney Co (movies, hotels, TV/streaming shows) are also being botched.

      YES!!! The very first thing I noticed and was DISAPPOINTED about was the cheap railings!!! The posts with chains were logical HM line que!!! The even cheaper looking rails on the brick walls makes the walls look fake and cheap too!!!

      Again, wouldn't have seen this in New Orleans of that period!
      It almost looks like a cattle yard, steering the huge masses of cattle
      up to the front of the house. Got to separate the rich from the poor,
      don't cha know!

    • @DrStarlander
      @DrStarlander Місяць тому +2

      Architecturally, strictly speaking, I agree. However, as far as the railing atop the brick, I suspect this is a unique circumstance. By code, the vertical bars should be no more than 4" apart. Wider than that they become a hazard in terms of heads getting stuck, unless they are very wide apart, like these (code may require this larger-than-a-head gap). Decorative elements like scrolls make them more dangerous, with smaller openings, sharp points and snags (and by the way, in addition to body parts, these elements can snag handbags etc. too as you walk past causing serious falls). They probably didn't want them 4" apart because it would be excessive, as it's not there to prevent falling (such as a balcony railing) since the ground beyond the railing is actually higher...again, this is a weird circumstance. They also likely want the aesthetics of these brick-atop railings to match the railings defining the multiple lines and these also are likely minimalistic for all the same reasons.
      All that's to say, this is a circumstance where current building codes and the function (people walking past quickly with handbags, etc.) make doing these like they'd be done in the 19th century unlikely to be possible.

      @@DrStarlander You may be correct. However, the Disney Co for the past 5-plus years has been making overtly bad decisions due to flat-out creative incompetence, not because of legal or logistical technicalities.

    • @DrStarlander
      @DrStarlander Місяць тому

      @@gridley In my opinion, Disney has been making some very poor creative decisions in recent years. I've been tracking the company for almost 50 years. I'm such a fan, when I first got my driver's license, the first place I drove was to WED Enterprises (a far drive from where I lived in California) and went in and had a nice chat with the secretary and got some press releases and a look at the space mountain model in the lobby! Later, as an adult, I worked in the theme park industry, including on Disney park attractions. In all those years, I've never seen the company so lost as it is today in terms of entertainment design, creative courage, and vision.
      Having said all that, there are so many codes and regulations and behavioral/safety considerations that lay-people are not aware of, and sometimes Disney is criticized for things when they simply have no other choice. But when there is a climate of disappointment, people see everything in a critical light. It's healthy for Disney fans to know these real-world limitations exist and offer a bit of grace to Disney when possible.

    imo Magnolia Park was the biggest waste of space and this is a huge improvement for that area. I have no idea what was possibly "lost" by this project.. we're gaining so much: A revamp to an area that was severely lacking, a large and interactive queue, and an actual merchandise store themed to the area. I like how the space is being used more practically.. and now with firm line divers people can rest upon them, there is an area that lets you take a photo with the hearse, and best of all, it's gonna be ADA compliant. I see only "wins" with this whole endeavor.

    When we vacationed at Disneyland in early
    July it felt so strange that Disney decided to refurbish both splash mountain and haunted mansion at the same time and most of New Orleans was so dead most of the time. It was a very odd decision. So many rides went down too but on the positive the park was the slowest I have ever seen when there July 1st. Got on so many other rides with little wait times.

  • @Mike__B

    Two things came to mind when I heard about the "queue enhancements" and that was ADA compliance (as someone who doesn't need it, I tend to not pay attention to whether or not it is), and the other was the more ominous one... for Lightning Lane, because Disney has found a way to simultaneously ruin attractions yet still make money hand over fist. A ride like the Haunted Mansion as mentioned is a people eater does not need LL, period, ditto with Pirates, but what did they do? They put it on HM ruining the standby queue, and when it closed down they made some bumbling excuse that it would "not be fair to Genie+ customers" and they slapped it where it did not need to go on Pirates ruining that queue in the process as well. While I am pleased as punch that people can't buy their way onto HM right now, hence why virtual queue is actually fair and available for those, as soon as they go back to a regular queue LL will be back to punish guests.

      I thought the original paper fast pass tickets were annoying, but at least doable. All these new systems - forget it. Just not worth the hassle. They are below $90 a share now; perhaps a change in management next year after Universal thoroughly cleans their clock?

    • @FunAtDisney
      @FunAtDisney Місяць тому

      I do agree with you but HM goes back to having the free original Fastpass system so it is nothing new to have it for LL.

    • @Mike__B
      @Mike__B Місяць тому +3

      @@FunAtDisney It is new though, because FPs were not handed out in as great of numbers as LL reservations are these days. Disney has way overbooked LL reservations for rides, and probably due to financial incentive it has to do so, with FPs there was no incentive to cram as many line skippers as possible onto a ride.
      Ultimately, that's the biggest issue I have with the LL system, is so much capacity is reserved for people paying, that it makes standby times longer which again is the incentification to get people to pay for their service.

    • @FunAtDisney
      @FunAtDisney Місяць тому

      @@Mike__B I do agree with you on that for sure. They need to limit it, or as many have suggested, just do what Universal does - Have an Unlimited Pass and price it at $15-$200 and limit them. Disney could limit those to 25% of what LL is now, they would make just as much or more $$$ and the stand-by queue would go faster.

Ridiculous. Disney has lost its way big time. Ruining classic rides and changing the park Walt built. Shameful

    22:39 this and 27:59 this. Be happy it is even there vs being gone. As said, Disney does this with everything! They keep a bit of the past. It is something I love about Disney is, if you know where to look, there are tons of past things hiding about. We could no longer see it as it used to be, so why not give it back some glory?
    28:54 I'm personally excited to see what they did. That back line area was terrible and if they added SOMETHING to it that would be enough. I'm very curious how this change will affect the overall Mansion look from the street.

    Maybe Disney was initially “not content” with having to dig up the haunted mansion line at first. But it seems like a along with having to be ADA compliant, they are taking this opportunity to put in the infrastructure for better crowd flow through that area of the park probably because they have bigger plans for Disneyland forward expansion, which requires people to pass through that area. I think the construction project is a lot bigger than just putting in an elevator. It is definitely more than that.

I completely agree with you that Disney would not have torn down the HM queue out of the goodness of their heart or to improve guest experience. There aren't enough of the kind of Imagineers who care about that stuff left. They were forced by the state do disrupt the parks in this way. Even more evidence they don't care about guests? They put a total schmuck in charge of the timing of all the construction projects to carve out a third of the park in the process.
