A couple of things you were wrong about, Vegeta was actually the strongest when he first met Goku (he actually lost most of his energy when Gohan fell on him as a great ape), Vegeta didnt kill any of Goku's friends (that was Nappa) and when Trunks hid that power from Vegeta, Cell said Vegeta could probably use that form but knows its weakness and Trunks agrees. Maybe I should’ve clarified. Even though we hadn’t seen him yet, Frieza was still out there and a character that still was apart of the Saiyan Saga even though we ever saw his face. I never said Vegeta killed Gokus friends, but he’s definitely responsible because Nappa wouldn’t have done anything without his say so. We saw this when Vegeta actually told Nappa to wait 3 hours. And then for Cell, yes it is assumed that Vegeta could use Grade 3 Super Saiyan, but he didn’t. And he lost to Perfect Cell. And as a result, Trunks (for the time he fought), put up a better fight against Cell. I truly appreciate the comment, and I understand your points, but I don’t need to watch the series over again. I have to disagree with the point of u saying that Gokus sacrifice was more selfless then vegetas, the big diff is that goku knew he was going to be able to keep his body and have a nice life in the other world, while vegeta on the other hand knew he was going to hell and won’t even be able to keep his body, which makes it more impactful
Vegeta has never officially lost to Goku: He won their first fight. Goku was tapped out after he won the iconic beam clash. This is proven after a light tap from Yajirobi hurt him profusely. Vegeta was still able to fight at this point. Their second fight is Vegeta's most controversial victory. As Majin Vegeta he sucker punched Goku and therefore technically winning the fight in a very dirty way. There were no established rules so this is a recognized win for Vegeta. Their third fight was most clearly a victory for Vegeta during their training with Whis. Goku, himself, declared Vegeta the winner. These are the only real fights between Goku and Vegeta and Goku has never won. I will grant that he could've certainly won their second fight but Goku tends to let his guard down too much, something that Whis later specifically scolds him for.
Yeah, honestly it's no contest. Vegeta is the best character. It flabbergasts me how Vegeta ended up being written with so much more depth than any other character.
Gohan had depth and good writing before DBS I'd say. I shouldn't need to explain his writing from ep.1 to the point where he defeated Cell, but as for the Buu saga, where there is character regression, and when he gains his Ultimate form he regains arrogance, I would say this isn't all too bad, characters can make mistakes twice, especially if it is for two different reasons, but what super did after is unforgivable.

Gohan's stuff, though it was satisfying, is relatively generic coming of age/hero''s journey/call to action trope territory. Vegeta's arc is DEEP though. And yeah, goes without saying, Super sucks. It has nothing of what made the old shows great, and actively undoes their development in many cases. It's a baby show and it depressed me profoundly that it went that direction. This human can kick hard enough to break a regular person's neck, and it has an impact on her when she thinks she killed someone on accident. She's sharp. She brought back a feeling of....tangible physicality, when things were starting to feel too much like just a numbers game because of crazy power scaling. It was cool to see a human be involved in the story again.

In the Cell arc, Trunks hid his “greater” power from Vegeta to protect his father’s pride. What Trunks didn’t know, though, was that Vegeta likely already knew about his son reaching this level of raw power - bro can sense Ki, after all. Vegeta, on the other hand, was way more experienced - therefore, he knew that the form Trunks had obtained was ineffectual, due to the strain it put on the body, as well as how bulky and slow it rendered the user. As Vegeta powers up against Semi-perfect Cell, you actually SEE Vegeta attain the form that Trunks used later on. But Vegeta cooled that form down, he sacrificed some of that raw power from the Berserker Saiyan form in order to retain as much speed and mobility as possible. That’s why Vegeta’s form was actually superior to Trunks’s - it may not have had the raw power that Trunks’s had, but it still retained the movement he would need in order to actually fight effectively. Ultimately though, that form was no match for Perfect Cell. We later find out that Super Saiyan 2 was the perfected version of Berserker Saiyan. It has all the raw power and force of Berserker Saiyan form, but with none of the drawbacks - namely, the bulky muscles and slow movement. In fact, Super Saiyan 2 enjoyed a HIGHLY significant boost in speed and mobility compared even to the Mastered Super Saiyan form.

I recently watched a video by Saiyan Scholar specifically about the comparison between Vegeta and Trunks during that particular fight. Including the mentions of Vegeta having been capable of all that Trunks thought he alone achieved. I mean, it has been demonstrated and gets pointed out multiple times throughout the series, by friend and foe alike(Piccolo and Frieza most notably), that when Vegeta manages have a clear head, he's a tactical savante (His "divide and conquer" strategy on Namek was probably one of the most interesting on-the-spot tactical shows in DBZ, IMO). They even sort of brush upon the downsides when Whis points out Goku's and Vegeta's flaws mentions Vegeta's tendency to get held back by his overactive mind while Goku tends to trust his instinct a little too much, emphasizing how they compliment each other. I mean, it was Vegeta's strategy that Goku used to kill Buu after all. How in the hell did he arrive at "Spirit Bomb". We've seen that thing fail multiple times. I guess he can rest on the fact that he constantly got shafted because he's the only character that defeated Akira Toriyama himself.
I don't agree entirely that his sacrifice against Buu was selfish. Posturing? Yeah, sure, a little. Who was watching tho? Piccolo? He also asks Piccolo what will happen to him, and Piccolo doesn't sugar coat it. Even shames him for his evil actions. Vegeta immediately comes to terms that he will lose himself, his ego, everything he ever was (even tho we all know he'll come back). That's a selfless thing to do. Also, Bulma gives Vegeta a safe space to heal from all his trauma. He continues to return to her, time and time again. She helps him heal and grow too. Without her, his kids, and Goku, he wouldn't have changed.
After watching this I think I'd be more interested to see what Vegeta would've been like if they hadn't hit the reset button on his arc sort of in Super then again that development was seen in the Manga with the Moro and Granolah Arcs.
It felt to me they didn’t really hit the reset (maybe a little bit backwards) rather he was just a more placid version that was given no progression or character arc.
One thing. Vegeta was the best when he arrived on Earth, by far. He just thought Goku could maintain Kaioken because he didn't understand it but all things considered, power, toughness, experience, craftmanship ; Vegeta had the upper hand ; he just panicked. Which is a loss in itself.... Things could have gone such a different way from this point......
You’re wrong about his 1st sacrifice: Vegeta’s sacrifice as Majin Vegeta was his most selfless of all to that point (even though it was in vain). He knew he would die, he knew he was goin to hell, he but he did it anyway in an attempt to save everyone.
I dont call it the buu saga I call it the vegeta arc saga and thats way its my favorite z saga the amount of character growth and development vegeta gets is amazing and well deserved
In super, it feels like all the characters don’t have any progression or character development. Seems especially strong when reflecting on vegeta across DBZ.
Well, technically, if you take his body count, he didn't really take that much of Ls when you think about it: Sure, he lost to Gohan+Krillin+Yajirobe+Goku, then to Zarbon (once then revenge on him), Recoom (then revenge kill), Freeza, Android 18, Perfect Cell, Fat Buu and Kid Buu. But when you take his body count, I mean, he killed countless aliens before even being introduced, saibaimen, some earthlings when his pod landed on Earth, Nappa, Cui, Dodoria, a whole village of about 20 to 30 namekians, Apool, Zarbon (even after being transformed), almost all of the Ginyu Force except the captain himself, Android 19, one random trucker guy during his fight versus Android 18, Pui Pui, and at least 200 spectators, if not more, in the world martial arts tournament when he went Majin himself. So if you take only those he really put up a fight, he got Ws to Cui, Dodoria, Zarbon, Jeice, Android 19, and Pui Pui. And if you really take his first defeat, he didn't really loose to Goku on one on one. It was actually a W for him. Same with Gohan, Krillin and Yajirobe, on one on one, he won to every single of them, but he lost to their team efforts. His second fight with Goku wasn't a L either, he deliberatly ended the fight on his own, by knocking out Goku himself, so that was still technically a W.
You would find Vegeta and Kratos from God of War to have a lot in common. Two battle thirsty POWERFUL warriors wronged by paranoid tyrants, attempted to get their revenge because of them (albeit Vegeta lost "twice" and Kratos eventually won), settled down and had a child (who are BOTH convienently not full breeds), and had future allies and enemies that ended up bettering them as people. Quite interesting if you think about it :) Also Vegeta and Kratos both called their sons "BOY" (albeit Vegeta did that a few times) :P
Actually Vegeta truly Lose to Gohan in the Sayain Sega not to Goku but he did force him to become a great Ape. but he is the best Character because he is the best Character of Dragon Ball.
I don't know why people think Goku defeated Vegeta in the Saiyan Saga, Goku had his entire body crushed with several broken bones by Vegeta's Great Ape Form, the people who won that fight against Vegeta was Yajirobi cutting Vegeta's tail off, Krillin after the Spirit Bomb was given to him by a very damaged Goku who threw it to Gohan who redirected it to Vegeta and Gohan crushing Vegeta after Gohan's Great Ape landed on top of Vegeta after Vegeta sliced the tail off with a Destructo Disk
Ironically.. if Vegeta had gotten immortality.. he might well have just been subject to a long lifetime of endless torture at the hands of Frieza seeing as how he still was nowhere near his level.
Vegeta would've won had he not went great ape, as not only did he exhaust himself horribly with it but he also left the artificial moon in place which resulted in Gohan also becoming a great ape after he went back to normal and falling on him, putting him in almost as bad of shape as Goku. If he had just spammed "Vegeta's Technique" while flying in random patterns so they had no idea where to return fire he would have cooked them.
Loved the video though I will have to say that Vegeta has never lost in any fights with Goku as in their first fight Vegeta destroyed Goku's skeletal structure as a Great Ape, Vegeta only lost to Yajirobi, Krillin and Gohan, Goku lost to Vegeta in the Buu Saga by letting his guard down, something Goku really needs to stop doing and finally Goku lost to Vegeta in the Super Hero movie
Let me say something where I think you made a mistake, when Vegito shoot the Final Flash at Cell, he made sure it didn't hit earth in a way that it could destroy it, Vegeta is a very smart warrior!

Not during the Cell Saga to the start of the Buu Saga, he was a terrible father but he did show he started to care about the grown up Trunks after the latter got killed by Cell, it was from his training of Kid Trunks when Vegeta made a promise to his son about an amusement park then hugging him before he went off to sacrifice himself that he showed to be growing as a father, Super definitely improved on him being a better father to his children especially hugging and holding Bulla when she was a baby which is his way of not screwing up the chance of holding one of his children as a baby as well as not wanting to leave Bulma when she was pregnant because he wanted to be with her so he can hold his daughter even though Whis fixed that by taking Bulla out of Bulma

Trunks was not hiding anything, je thoight he was. Vegeta knew of geade 3 and chose not to use it due to stamina drain and lack of agility. Cell even states this himself. Also, Bulma gives Vegeta a safe space to heal from all his trauma. He continues to return to her, time and time again. She helps him heal and grow too. Without her, his kids, and Goku, he wouldn't have changed.

After watching this I think I'd be more interested to see what Vegeta would've been like if they hadn't hit the reset button on his arc sort of in Super then again that development was seen in the Manga with the Moro and Granolah Arcs.
It felt to me they didn’t really hit the reset (maybe a little bit backwards) rather he was just a more placid version that was given no progression or character arc.

Well, technically, if you take his body count, he didn't really take that much of Ls when you think about it:
Sure, he lost to Gohan+Krillin+Yajirobe+Goku, then to Zarbon (once then revenge on him), Recoom (then revenge kill), Freeza, Android 18, Perfect Cell, Fat Buu and Kid Buu.
But when you take his body count, I mean, he killed countless aliens before even being introduced, saibaimen, some earthlings when his pod landed on Earth, Nappa, Cui, Dodoria, a whole village of about 20 to 30 namekians, Apool, Zarbon (even after being transformed), almost all of the Ginyu Force except the captain himself, Android 19, one random trucker guy during his fight versus Android 18, Pui Pui, and at least 200 spectators, if not more, in the world martial arts tournament when he went Majin himself.
So if you take only those he really put up a fight, he got Ws to Cui, Dodoria, Zarbon, Jeice, Android 19, and Pui Pui. And if you really take his first defeat, he didn't really loose to Goku on one on one. It was actually a W for him. Same with Gohan, Krillin and Yajirobe, on one on one, he won to every single of them, but he lost to their team efforts. His second fight with Goku wasn't a L either, he deliberatly ended the fight on his own, by knocking out Goku himself, so that was still technically a W.

You would find Vegeta and Kratos from God of War to have a lot in common.
Two battle thirsty POWERFUL warriors wronged by paranoid tyrants, attempted to get their revenge because of them (albeit Vegeta lost "twice" and Kratos eventually won), settled down and had a child (who are BOTH convienently not full breeds), and had future allies and enemies that ended up bettering them as people.
Quite interesting if you think about it :)
Also Vegeta and Kratos both called their sons "BOY" (albeit Vegeta did that a few times) :P

Ironically.. if Vegeta had gotten immortality.. he might well have just been subject to a long lifetime of endless torture at the hands of Frieza seeing as how he still was nowhere near his level.
Vegeta would've won had he not went great ape, as not only did he exhaust himself horribly with it but he also left the artificial moon in place which resulted in Gohan also becoming a great ape after he went back to normal and falling on him, putting him in almost as bad of shape as Goku. If he had just spammed "Vegeta's Technique" while flying in random patterns so they had no idea where to return fire he would have cooked them.

Trunks was not hiding anything, je thoight he was. Vegeta knew of geade 3 and chose not to use it due to stamina drain and lack of agility. Cell even states this himself. And vegetas grade 2 is stronger than trunks grade2. You take an L for making dragon ball content and barely grasping spoon fed lore.
